@approxinfinity Giannis 15th pick…lol.

To paraphrase Matthew Mcconnahey in Dazed and Confused, what i love about the NBA draft is that while the Lakers get one year older, the rest of the league stays the same age! Giggity.
Speaking of Matthews, it appears Matthew Mayer is going to UNC. Going to take the Brady Manek role.

Jalen going to the show. They may not have to get creative with the roster after all
This would work out a lot of things.

I think he’s ready. Not sure if he gets drafted, but he has plenty of talent to do the grind, and put himself in position to make money off his craft. Great kid- made a 180 after the DUI.

Want Wilson back more then any transfer. Way more important
-
If Wilson keeps shooting like this, he’s a second rounder for sure, maybe an end of the first guy. Biggest issue is his age. He was old for his class to begin with since his birthday is in November. Then he redshirted, meaning he’s another year older. He played this entire season at 21. If he returns, he will be just a few weeks from his 23rd birthday making his pro debut. Compare that to Ochai. He’s just seven months older than Jalen Wilson. Christian Braun is four month younger.
I’m sure Wilson’s people are weighing that factor carefully. At this point, if he has interest, he should leave because he’s losing a year of his pro career - even assuming longevity for him, Wilson probably won’t play past his age 35 season, which would give him either a 13 year career if he goes now, or a 12 year career window. Rookie contracts are 4 years long, so his rookie deal would either expire when he’s 26 or 27, when he would negotiate for what would probably be his only big contract (a four or five year deal that takes him to his age 30 or 31 season).
I comped him with Kyle Anderson before, and I think the comparison works. Anderson entered the league at 21, while Wilson will enter at 22 essentially. After playing out his rookie deal in San Antonio, Anderson inked a 4 year deal at the midlevel exception, which got him around 9M per year. His deal expires this year and he will have a chance, at 29, to negotiate one more decent deal, probably at the MLE again. Wilson will finish his rookie deal at 26, then get a shot at the MLE. Because he’s older, he may not get a shot at a second MLE deal, and may have to sign for a veteran’s minimum type contract after his second contract expires. That could be the difference in making $70M+ in his career and making less than $50M, especially if he waits another year, meaning his rookie deal expires at 27, and a MLE deal expires at 31, at which point teams may be looking to get younger rather than signing a more expensive veteran role player, which is where Jalen Wilson projects.
This decision to stay or go could literally be a $20M+ decision for him. I wish him all the best. I will be rooting for him.

Ochai’s numbers were terrific. 6’11 wingspan, 2nd highest vertical, 4th fastest sprint. Should put him firmly in the top 10. Really hoping he goes to the Spurs

Definitely a lottery pick.

I think he already has one. I always thought Mayer was better than Manek- UNC is going to be STOUT next year.

The remote’s channel button is a good substitute. I have no idea why anyone chooses to watch ESPN when they know they will be exposed to his rants.
-
@mayjay I dont watch ESPN, but I do frequent their site, and the sight of his face makes me anxious.

UNC should be preseason #1 and the title favorites going into next season. Hubert Davis seemed to figure it out after the Duke loss. UNC went 13-3 after that game and genuinely looked like a top 10 team for most of that stretch of games too. Bacot and Davis will likely be on the short list of NPOY candidates next season and if Caleb Love can become more consistent, they very well could cut the nets down next season.

Wilson’s playing now on espnnews. They had self on. I like these espn guys much better than the usual ones
-
CB on espn2 now.
-
CB would do better w/o Collin Gillespie as pt guard!
-
CB has been moved to Wilson’s team, so I’m not sure which time they play. Some have dropped out.

Tell me this isnt Christian with more hair

-
@approxinfinity He is now at Santa Clara University. That is a team that could make some noise in the WCC which has been dominated by Gonzaga, St Mary’s and San Francisco (USF) for at least a decade.
-
@approxinfinity he use to have really long hair
-
Nice assist by Wilson to CB for a dunk followed by a roar! No bitch though.

Now that KUSports.com is unusable and the worst sports website on the internet, where else are you going for KU news? How can the operators of that website be so incompetent?

I haven’t been there in awhile what happened??!
-
@BShark When I open the site, the only thing that shows is a large image. The stories are below, but are quite limited and very few people respond now.

Hmm, harsh view. I like the site. Always has the current team news, and it’s free. No complaints.
-
@stoptheflop the mobile view on KuSports is pretty bad. I agree about that. Just not laid out well. The content is still decent, for what it is.
-
@approxinfinity The links after the articles sometimes have headlines that look current (a la “Self high on recruits”) and have been as old as 2012 with no hint.
-
@stoptheflop next time you go to the website, in the URL it’s going to have something along the lines of “www.kusports.com/version=mobile” (not sure if that’s the exact address) but change the word “mobile” to “desktop”, that should bring up the normal site you’re used to seeing.
-
@mayjay I still feel bad about the KU tennis player that’s still on there.

From The Athletic:
Kansas guard Christian Braun was asked by a team to participate in a staring contest during a draft interview. Braun: “I thought it was really cool, they’re trying to see your competitive nature, and if you’re trying to win.”
-
@Gorilla72 did he call anyone any names while they stared?
-
Official CB staying in the draft

It was known.

Today’s quiz:
Who would you rather have on next year’s roster…
Wilson or McCullar?
easy answer, but had to ask
-
Wilson should go pro. I think he’ll be more successful than people expect at the next level. There’s a place for guys in the NBA who understand the game, have some personality, hustle, do the dirty work to let the stars shine, and he’s that kind of dude. Nothing left to prove or improve on at the college level. IMO
Good year for McCullar to join with the 2-3 spots a little iffy on the D side

I would obviously rather have Jalen back. By the end of the season he was playing so damn well. He was the real reason we could play so fast. Him and CB getting 18-20 rebounds a game and starting the break is what won them the Natty.
I think McCullar is going to be really good here. But I don’t want him as my starting 3. I’m good with him playing the 4 where he is a bit of a mismatch and it allows us to switch everything. I just don’t love him as my 3, which has traditionally been the go-to scorer in the Bill Self system. All of the good Bill Self teams have had a very efficient player in that role.
Rush, B-Mac, Henry (he was even if people are sour on him), Releford, Svi/Vick (were sort of interchangeable on that team), and then Och.
McCullar has just not shown he can shoot it .400 from deep or finish at the rim over .500. Nor is he the guy you are calling lob plays for which is also a Bill Self staple.
I just don’t see how he fits at the 3.
-
Agree McCullar from what we’ve seen of him in the last 3 years isn’t an ideal 3 in Self’s lineup. Again I don’t know how much of his offensive game was held back by two defensive minded coaches he played under (Beard, Adams) but it crosses my mind they didn’t develop him this past year as much as you would have thought. I recall seeing he was injured some last year as well? Anyways I think he comes here and has a big role but I do agree I don’t want him being the focal point of the offense or playing the 3 primarily. That’s unless he has a leap in him we cannot project right now.
If Jalen does leave I have no idea who the offense will focus around. He’d easily be a preseason POY pick & 1st team Big-12 guy. Harris will be the highest scoring returning player & we know the offense isn’t flowing through him for 10-15 shots a game. If Jalen does leave then I think Self needs to get a lot more real about roster moves. Your 12th and 13th guys aren’t helping you win this upcoming year but you can go get guys in the portal that can.

Loved watching Jalen grab a rebound and just push it up the court. If there was one thing to remember about him, that was it. His specialty.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk It’s funny because his footwork in grabbing a rebound and spinning and pushing it up court was so strong while his footwork in preparing for a jump shot was so poor!

Ha, I’m certainly no expert on jump shot footwork. I mean, you can tell what it should look like by watching Och and others with good form. Looking back by memory…did Jalen have lazy footwork? Dragging his feet?

Interesting you classify Beard and Adams as defensive minded coaches … but not Self?
-
@rockchalkjayhawk they didn’t have as much O power as we did.
-
Wasn’t a slight to Self. Actually it was a slight to Tech’s coaches for being what they are.
