Just how amazing has his season been?

      13, 20 point games.

Who would have ever thought he would average 20 points a game? Incredible

On the verge of becoming the 1st Big-12 player to avg 20 + 5 assists a game.

      Possible front-runner for POY.

14th place on the All-Time Scoring Record with 1,622 points. He still has at least 10 games left in his career, 17 if all goes as planned.

      What else am I missing?

No matter what happens he’ll go down as one of my favorite hawks ever!

    • This Team

“You know, you look at this team and everybody, including myself, has said what’s wrong with this team all year long. We don’t do this, we don’t do that or we’re too small or we don’t have enough depth or we don’t play hard enough or we’re not hungry enough. And all they’ve done is they’re the No. 3 overall seed, and they’ve won two games in the tournament and are going to the Sweet 16. We’ve got to win two more games to get where we want to go. But I’m so proud of our kids and nobody can say that they haven’t had a great season. Now we have to go make great (turn into) special.” -Bill Self

Has Self said anything better all season long?

I’m pumped for Friday. We’re going to win

Time to give this guy some props for his defense and intangibles on the court so far this year.

His defense on Saturday against Paschall was outstanding. He was locked in. Talked after about the film he watched on how to guard him and its refreshing to see how much detail he put into that matchup. Overall I thought he did as good a job as we could have hoped on him.

We all know his 3 point shots are prayers, he constantly clanks the first free throw at the line and he’s struggled finishing on drives but man does this kid compete on both sides. He’s a valuable ball handler as we saw when Nova went to a full court press. It’s nice to know if Dotson is struggling or in foul trouble that we have a ball handler that can get into the offense. He has great hands and awareness when looking for steals. More importantly we have a guy that can matchup with someone’s best scorer 1-4 positions. Great to have.

He scores 1 point but his impact on the game seemed to outweigh what the box score says. Now if the staff could only get that shot fixed…

    • Buddy Hield

This guy deserves his own thread.

What an unbelievable performance last night. Dare to say that tops Kevin Durant’s performance here years back but after playing 54 of 55 minutes and putting on a clinic all through the OT’s I do say this was the best performance by a non KU player ever in this building.

And he does it with class… If you saw his post game interview with Scott Van Pelt he was all class even though you could sense he was upset leaving here without a victory.

And our fans, the one’s that were left gave him a standing ovation. Name another fan-base that will do that for a kid on the other team. Not ISU, Not KSU…KU is all class even its fans, although sometimes we all have our moments.

I’ve been a fan of his for a while but I gained a whole new appreciation for him. He had moments last night that reminded me of how Steph Curry is playing in the NBA. He’s that good, I do think he’s got a chance to become an NBA all-star the way he carries himself and the hard work he has put in to be where he’s at.

I’m jealous he’s not in a KU uniform, I’m jealous Self didn’t see what kind of player Hield could become, but who could have?

Thanks Buddy for putting on a show but respectfully missing that last 3 in triple OT. I will never forget that game.

    • Some team stats through 8 games

3rd in points per game in Conference- 22nd national

2nd in shooting % in conference- 5th national

tied for 1st in 3pt %, really improved that # lately- 17th nationally

worst FT shooting team in the conference- believe there are only 11 teams worse in all of D-1. Yikes

3rd in the conference in rebounding- 61st nationally

2nd in assists per game conference- 16th nationally

Surprisingly 3rd in Blocks in conference- 34th nationally playing mostly 4 guard lineup…

KenPom has us 8th nationally in Adjusted Offense, 6th in Adjust Defense.

      So far so good.

      Boy is hungry.

Cut his trip back home short and is back in Lawrence working on his game. Taking after Frank and putting in the work to have a dominate Sr year.

Sounds like another that they will have to pray is eligible. Would certainly be an ideal option if they can

McDowell also has eligibility issues to work through for those interested in the D2 kid

Dessert is not coming due what sounds like significant issues with his situation. He was a pro player so perhaps issues with eligibility. Perhaps visa or other paperwork concerns. Sounds like they were red flags with him being here so its a no go.

We are good at finding the 1 international player that has issues. We have a well established history of it

      @rcjhdraft

Maybe they did pass on both, but neither was expected to be a year 1 high impact dude. I don’t remember Jemison ever visiting here (or having serious interest) and while SWA did visit they seemed to have him lower on the pecking order at the time. We also have no idea what NIL # they were looking for & could KU afford it. There’s an obvious reason KU only signed 2 HS players this year, 1 being one of the most expensive in the country (for good reason).

I’m not going to make much excuse for the outcome of the offseason but it’s kind of felt like there’s no roadmap to follow & there’s been a crazy amount of circumstances that have made it difficult to be successful in the KU bubble alone.

The focus is still a big and a wing, the last spot could go to another front court type.

Vernon is reporting the Student Visa thing could also be part of the hold up on Dessert @mayjay but who knows, he’s not a trustworthy source.

Pat Suemnick is still another potential addition that visited for front court depth. I’d take both if we can afford it.

This is a big one (literally) if they can get all the logistics in order. I think this is the biggest remaining need to ensure this team has enough front court depth + he’s going to have a good-sized role.

Another Wing Shooter is still priority 1A, but they may have to live with what they got. Perhaps they get lucky shaking the trees this summer as we’ve seen Coit/Furphy join the team late in the last two years and have impacts.

Reporter for 247 quoted HCBS as saying we needed to add a 15ppg wing (3/4) to “have a complete roster.”

He did say that, they tried to get that from Sarr and Williams but didn’t have the NIL funds to win out. Now they are likely getting Dessert who probably is going to take a significant amount of that NIL pool. I doubt there’s funds to get that 15ppg scorer and given what NIL it takes to get top level guys we may be done after this one. Of course everything is still fluid, perhaps there’s an international player with a price range where Self can shake a booster tree one more time but I wouldn’t count on it as of today…
