Land Thieves Shooty Hoops

  • We won a game by double digits! Seems like a rare feat this year.

  • Fun game

    HD is a STUD

  • Better

  • Unbeatable if we turn it over less than 5 times

  • @webjay join us more often!

  • Didn’t need Juan’s 10 point effort to win for once!!

  • Now my focus shifts to root for the Chiefs. Is it greedy to hope for 2-0?

  • @RockChalkinTexas 8 assists 0 TO’s

  • A&M pushing UK.

  • @bskeet Any Miami fans here

  • Let’s go Aggies!!

  • Self let Elmarko in last 5 mins of the game, hopefully it will boost his confidence.

  • New Mexico crushing SAN Diego state by 20

  • I think Juan looked better over all had 8 assists today without any silly TOs. I’m still a little concerned with his shooting, was 3/10 today 3 misses were layups one uncontested. He’s shooting at 32% in conference play. I think he can be a solid 10-10 type of guy if we start hitting some of these open 3s and he gets a few more shots to drop.

  • Good game all things considered. Only two turnovers. Hunter and Kevin both playing hurt. KJ played 40 minutes so he was a bit gassed at times which showed when he missed a dunk (only 5-14 from the field overall). TOUGHNESS WAS SHOWN.

  • @BShark ya I honestly think we should have subbed out a few guys the last 2 minutes.

  • Uk in OT with A&M

  • I’ll take Juan’s play today any time - -more to the game then just scoring- -I’ll take 8 assists ZERO turnovers------ 3 steals and seven points- - I’ll take that

  • SEC officials are jobbing the game in new and creative ways.

  • This sequence for the refs… WOOF

  • I don’t want to ever hear a Kentucky fan complain about the calls not going their way. Potentially gifted 6 points in a 5 point game in OT

  • I’ll also take a team that goes 94 % from the line - – - 7 seals - - 7 blocks – & TWO turnovers

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in Land Thieves Shooty Hoops:

    Terrific bounce back game

    ^^^^^^^

    100%

not to worry as hard as the refs tried - -A & M till beats them

  • KJ and Juan both played 40 minutes, must be gassed.

  • @AsadZ yep that’s probably the stat I’m most disappointed with especially with a 16 point lead with 3 minutes to go.

  • @AsadZ said in Land Thieves Shooty Hoops:

KJ and Juan both played 40 minutes, must be gassed.

And, Kev played 39 - only reason he was out the minute was because of the banged knee.

That’s not sustainable. Rather than Elmarko giving Juan a blow running the point, even for just a minute or two, he and Furphy just split minutes at the 2 spot.

While Furphy brings more scoring and rebounding to the starting 5, it means we get even less production from the bench - a miserly 4 points.

As was shown in the UCF game, we are in serious trouble if one of the starters is in foul trouble or gets banged up…

  • @DCHawker UCF was more turnovers and lack of effort after the first 15 minutes.

  • @AsadZ said in Land Thieves Shooty Hoops:

Both played 18 minutes with The Furph taking seven shots and Elmarko one.

Kev and Remy. I say it’s a tie between the 3

Jarrod Haase and Rex Walter’s deserve consideration as well.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Yea, I forgot about Jeff W, he was a monster

I mean, Rex Walters, Jared Haase… Also candidates, but that was a long time ago.

The original question was best transfer of the Bill Self era and those two are Roy transfers.

Missed that part. Depends on what Hunter does. Remy had the most impact. Kevin has been the best player. Withey was a cornerstone to his team. The rest are pretty average - Graves, Coleman, Moss; to bad - all the mid-major transfers.

  • The Furph with the El Kabong and Hunter with the Baba Louie

  • Hate to think how bad this team would be without Hunter. 😬 maybe Zuby or Udeh mature ahead of schedule, but from the looks of them in other uni’s it’s doubtful.

  • Couldn’t watch (cheapskate). Went X-Country skiing instead. Listened in car to some of 2nd half. After a bucket load of TO’s last game Bill must have preached ball security and everyone must have been paying attention because 2 TO’s for a game is remarkable.

Bench, newsflash, very little production, I think that’s gonna be this teams downfall in March. Nice bounce back from HD.

Next game on TV, OSU. Screw ESPN and their putting a top 10 game on ESPN+. They literally have Temple/North Texas on ESPNU and ESPN2 simultaneously right now. I know, we got spoiled seeing every game. Here’s an idea. I’ve paid for ESPN for 20 years. For a few years they had ESPN3, no extra charge. Bring that back for all of us who already pay for ESPN.

  • @wissox right that was my thinking, I know they pick networks and such before the season but Temple and North Texas probably had no where near the viewership of our game. Looks like a money grab by them.

ESPN also has a contractual obligation to show a certain number of AAC games. If they bumped that game for KU/OU, then ESPN would be at risk of being in breach of contract with the AAC and ESPN wouldn’t want to deal with that kind of lawsuit.

  • Ha! so much for Elmarko giving Juan a rest huh. insane. still played all 40! (sorry if this has been discussed, i didn’t get to read the entire thread).

Just proves what we think, Coach Self DOES NOT think. I’m gonna give us credit for having big brains, and still call it a Self-inflicted flaw.

Soooo happy that our boy Furphy was flying all over the place. Now he needs some sea legs. I can’t really complain about his defense too much. He got beat a few times, but he was putting in the effort.

Stat of the game: TWO TURNOVERS!!! remarkable.

Not so great stat of the game: 3-15 from deep. How on earth do we keep winning games shooting so poorly from 3? I dunno.

Play of the game: Parker’s alley oop slam! I can’t believe he got up there and threw it down. Very nice!

Awesome win vs an athletic opponent, or guards that seemed to be athletic.

  • KU bench players only took 3 shots, making 2 for a combined 4 pt contribution. Clearly, I need to realize this is a team of 5 starters. I don’t recall any college team that relied on its starters like this year’s team. Anyone else disappointed that KU’s second 5 (really the 5th starter and bench) are so weak? I know KU was counting on Morris, but I don’t remember a weaker bench for KU.

  • @stoptheflop KU’s bench somehow outscores WVU’s bench and has nearly identical production to KSU’s. It ranks 318! Wretched. The starters though are a bit better than those other teams.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk Self didn’t even think to let Elmarko spell Juan and have him run some point early on in the season. Not properly assessing the roster is on him.

Kevin is essentially the backup pg and KJ can bring it up much like draymond so we have options.

Elmarko is so explosive and the only guard that can get to the paint without a ball screen yet he never thought to maybe let him run some at the 1 even after seeing him play while recruiting him.

The ball and chain that is Juan to Self. Juan’s legacy as the point is this year and next when there are no Remy bailouts. Juan’s getting worse and more lackadaisical with the ball and still doesn’t look to score like he should. The offense with two all Americans is thus a top 40-50 offense due to just that. He’s a ball mover I.e he doesn’t attack the paint and can’t break his own man down one on one.

You’ve been warned and many are seeing it for the actual scenario versus the red and blue glasses

Do you ever make a basketball post that isn’t negative about Dejuan? We all know your opinion about Dejuan and you say basically the same thing in every post about Dejuan

This is why people don’t like interacting with you here. You don’t add anything new or constructive to conversations, it’s almost always something negative about Dejuan. We all know his shortcomings as a player and choose not to harp on them in nearly every post like you.

How about instead of blaming Self for trying to make Elmarko work a position and role that he’s not used to playing, we look at why Self decided that Arterio Morris ended up being his choice for a 2 instead of some of the other options that were reportedly interested in coming here that didn’t have the legal baggage Morris had. That’s where the real failure of this roster lies, not with Dejuan Harris being the same player he’s been his entire career here.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 thanks for saying it. I didnt need to be called an anti-american commie for calling someone annoying. Your post stuck to the point. Well done.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Wait a minute…that guy doesn’t like Harris? Mom always told me other kids tossed insults because they were so jealous of me! So I thought his comments were because he adores him so much!

  • @approxinfinity OK, though, to be an American commie. I saw Oppenheimer.

  • I think Furphy being ready for the starting lineup does two big things. It takes even more pressure off Harris to be the 4th scorer. The last two seasons show that if Juan is your 5th guy your good because the 4th guy gets a decent amount of looks and can weather when Harris has his games where he isn’t going to score. Furphy’s skillet is very important to the lineup because he’s a lot different then Jackson. Pretty much every statistic in less minutes Furphy is better. Elmarko just isn’t the answer in the lineup due to Juan.

The 2nd big thing is the spacing that Furphy can provide on offense and rebounding on defense. Furphy gives you another 3 point threat which is the biggest weakness of this team on that side of the ball. Defensively he gives you another rebounder with plus size because outside Hunter and Kev we don’t have good rebounders. I think this move pays off and it’s what has to happen. Elmarko will hopefully adjust to this new role and find out how he can help

  • Any problems with Kevin’s knee? Seemed to linger the rest of the game. We were playing keep on keeping on all of the first half and OU stayed right with us. At that point I thought they were a very good team.

    Well said

  • @Zabudda

He’s definitely been a bit hobbled since conference play started.

  • @BeddieKU23 Agree, he also plays loose.

My hope is that he can learn to guard without fouling.

I really hope he puts some muscle mass because he gets robbed on rebounds and 50/50 balls due to lack of muscle power strength.

  • @AsadZ

We are lucky to have him, he’s still super young. Could have been a 24 recruit but we got lucky having a need. Comparable to Svi from a physical standpoint when he came here. An offseason in the weight room and he’s going to be a monster here.
