ESPN+ Tip: change the channel when the game is over, or it will run the same commercials continuously.

That’s where fran practices his on air coaching skills

It scrolls that YOUR EVENT HAS ENDED…over and over again

For me it puts it on the same commercial again and again…

  • Remarkable stat - JW, Gradey and McCullar made just 2 buckets inside the arc - 2-18! - and we win by 12…

  • @DCHawker KJ on the bench meant 👎 action in the paint. Gonna need Udeh to be a more reliable backup.

He had 6 rebounds and 3 blocks in 10 minutes. I don’t know what more you can ask of a freshman big man.

And then we were +18 on the floor with Zach last night.

If we get this level of play from the backups most nights we are going to be tough to beat.

  • @Kcmatt7 Yeah, good point. KJ definitely impacted the game. Just trying to explain the overall low scoring from inside. This was his first game not to light it up in awhile.

  • @Jayblaze getting 16ish points from our big men has been about the right number all season when we are playing well.

KJ only got 4 in both of the losses to TCU and Baylor. So you’re right, when the bigs don’t score we definitely struggle. But last night we really did get about our season average, it just took a lot of guys to do it 😂

  • @Kcmatt7 Who do you think you are, confronting me with FACTS! I think I’ll just carry on in my alternate reality, thanks. 😁

  • I’m sure Bill got very excited when Zach finished through contact but yeah we don’t need much from our bigs. KJ did still almost get his average while being limited due to fouls and such. As few minutes as I can remember him playing in quite awhile. Probably since a non-con blowout if I had to guess. Most of our scoring and rebounding for that matter comes from the wings.

  • @Jethro I hope you’re not payton patterson because that post is pretty trollish.

Way to go Jayblaze. Keep posting so these other people have to go look up stuff. It gives them something to do. I say and post stuff all the time that I think might be right but I’m not certain. I just rely on others to figure out if I know anything at all. “You know nothing Stop the Flop.”

You’ll have to take that up with Elon, sir. I’m not the Twitter monitor.

  • This crap is just idiotic. - -I guess there is some K/State people talking crap on Travis Kelce cause he was at KU last night.- - One poster on their site says : - - Travis Kelce was at KU last night - -Remember that - -omg people Seriously. - -your dogging the guy for being at the game ? lmao

  • Big SHOUT-OUT to Zach and Ernest! Both offered big help and did it in different ways!

Thank you to “Mr. Double-Double” Kevin! 12 FTs! He battled hard to get to the line that much!

Thank you to the whole squad for controlling this game from the opening whistle!

  • I also follow assists. Juan was very low for him (2)… but we had JWil and Kevin with 4 a piece. Very good to see others sharing and not having to count so much for Juan to always feed the assists (he was busy scoring 18 points!).

  • @stoptheflop I basically consider everyone on this site my research assistant.

  • I thought Clemence had a nice game, his body language was also positive.

  • @AsadZ apparently i just needed to publicly indicate that i had written him off for him to turn it around and make me eat crow. Kids! Who can figure them out?

  • @approxinfinity Board Rats! Who can figure them out? 😁

  • @approxinfinity I hope he sticks around. With J Wil, McCullar and possible Grady departing, I can see him being a valuable contributor next year. Based on wing situation, it is possible Self goes back to 3-2 next year.

  • @AsadZ i dont think we will ever go back to 3-2. But being able to shoot the 3 is everything there, i see your point.

  • @approxinfinity If KJ develops a decent outside game in the offseason, do you envision Self playing Clemence and KJ together consistently. It could be a hybrid 3-2.

  • @AsadZ No, based on what Bill’s said. We may in a small spurt for 1 random game here or there but starting lineups and major minutes no.

Bill has said he recruits the best players now and has changed recruiting from “hey we need a 4 or a 5 man” to “hey we need to recruit 4 guards, all who can shoot, 1 who is a true pg and 1 with some height” - jayhawk podcast I posted a week or so ago.

He’s gone full fledged 4 out 1 in like many have.

  • @kuballin10

Our three 2023 recruits are a PG, CG and SG. They only differ by 1" or 5 pounds. The clone class.

  • @Zabudda exactly and all can shoot!

Need that 1 more guard who’s 6-7 to 6-9 and athletic whether jwill or Josh Jackson something

Kj and udeh/Zuby at the 5 plus maybe a transfer and we are set

I thin Gradey stays but even though he’s 6-8 he’s not able to guard a 4 man

  • @kuballin10 I do think there’s a chance KJ slides over to the 4. He’s such a good passer and defender. He’s show some driving capabilities and we all know self is not shy about playing non-shooters. Especially if he’s paired with Zach who has the green light from 3, I see some potential for that line up to get some time. We saw it for a brief moment during either the Kentucky or kstate game. Can’t remember which.

I think a big part of self trying to will Juan into becoming a threat from 3 is to allow him to be more flexible with KJ. KJ is such a unique piece with his strength, speed and lateral quickness o just don’t see him coming off the floor for extended minutes. At the same time, Udeh, Zach and zuby are going to HAVE to be played as they continue to develop.

With JWill, Kevin, and Gradey all likely gone next year there’s definitely an opening at the 3/4 wing spot and Bill is already confident that KJ can guard that position and switch 1-5 so to me it’s his to lose next year.

  • Dick is not coming back if he’s a 1st round pick. And he will be one.

Dick is going to be a lottery pick this year, he ain’t coming back, nor should he return because he’ll be making a lot more in the NBA than he would with NIL money next season. McCullar would be the one to keep an eye on returning as he’s a fringe NBA pick and would likely make more in NIL than whatever pro league he’d be in next year, but even then I’mnot sure he’ll be back.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 does Kevin have eligibility?

I believe he has his covid year if he wants it.

  • I’m not sure gradey leaves. He’s loving his life now. Struggling a lil in bb. Doesn’t need more money. Probably doesn’t want to be in the G league. Kinda immature! I know, I’m a dork.

  • He’s still mocking in the lottery. We have had some shocking returns over the years and this would be right up there. I see the angles for why he may look at another year but if your in the lottery, Self is going to be advocating for you to go.

  • I don’t see Dick being anywhere near a 1st round pick in this draft. He shows potential… but he’s not physically at all near playing in the NBA. He’s struggling still in college.

It would be a huge mistake… like it was if JWil left last year, or Och the year before.

  • @BeddieKU23 I think this is where the NIL could help us. Think of guys like Josh Selby dude has a ton of potential and showed it a few times. Got a stress fracture the second half of the year, fell off most draft boards went second round and disappeared. He pretty much had to go with his family living in poverty. If that was today he could get a hundred thousand and stay then move to a lottery pick. I personally think dick stays another year.

Dick is gone and ain’t coming back after this season. His deficiencies aren’t things that get corrected as quickly as they do in the NBA. Physical development comes with age and time and he’ll have a lot more time in the NBA than at KU to keep developing. The NBA is also fast paced enough that his shooting is what’s going to keep him in the league for awhile. If he has the work ethic to develop other areas of his game as a pro, then he could become a star in the NBA. Other than selfishness in wanting to see him in a KU uniform next year, there’s not a great reason to advise him not to go. He’s a projected lottery pick in one of the stronger drafts in recent history, he needs to go make that money.

  • Gradey? Too early to say if he will leave but he should significantly up his shooting results. He is still getting by on his laurels but not stunning with results. NBA teams know all that stuff so I won’t be surprised either way.

It is a huge mistake to get drafted in the lottery??

  • Gradey has one overwhelmingly attractive skill… fast, high, and efficient shot release.

Granted… he will gain more skills quickly… but he has a boy’s body. I even question his lung strength in college ball because he doesn’t seem to put up good numbers in the second half. Tired?

    He plays below-grade defense.

He’s not a great finisher at the rim.

He’s still learning to create scoring space.

    Passing… fair.

    Speed… average.

How long before he can earn NBA minutes? I think most (or all) NBA teams expect a lottery pick to earn minutes in their first year. I don’t see how he could be on a court with NBA players in his first year.

More than anything else he needs conditioning… strength and endurance. He can best do this in college, instead of scooting around in G-league.

Within a year or two we won’t even be able to identify him as the same player… kind of like JWil.
