Fess Up... How Many Times Have You Watched It?

  • I’ve watched the game 8 times now…

I already plan to watch it at least 3 more times by Sunday.

I stayed up on Monday and watched it 3 times in total. Tuesday was a wipe-out day for me, so I largely just kept watching it. I haven’t gone a single day without watching it at least once. I watch it all, including the halftime nonsense chatter, and of course, the aftergame cutting down the nets.

I bet I’m the only one who has seen it more than once. ha

List your repeat watches here, and the stories around it.

  • I’ve watched the 2nd half at least 5 times. When I imagined at halftime how we’d win this game down 15 I still cannot imagine what actually happened. Those guys made themselves champions.

  • I haven’t rewatched it yet because I’m afraid they won’t come back from that huge deficit the second time.

  • I’m watching the condensed version rn because of you guys…

The deficit went from 12 to 1 from 16 minutes to 12 minute and 45 seconds. We knew all season this team could run, but damn.

  • @tis4tim

    Yeah me too.

  • @BeddieKU23

It is a little painful to watch that first half again… after about halfway through the first half.

But it gives me a reference for understanding just how much momentum changed in the second half.

I remember back in 2008… I watched the end of that game probably 20 times. It just doesn’t get old!

  • The first 4 minutes of the half Love kept answering. I didn’t think we’d be able to pull it off.

And then you blinked and it was tied. Like a glitch in the universe happened or something.

  • Watched the whole thing again Tuesday night. I’m sure I’ll watch it again this weekend.

  • @drgnslayr Forgive me father for I have sinned. I forgot to hit record at the beginning of the game. I switched channel at halftime, and finally hit record near the end, which I figured would record all the way back to when I started watching. Well, it was after the timeslot allotted for the game, and so it just recorded what was called “postgame” or something like that. So my recording is just of the last 2 minutes or so.

To be honest I would have not bothered to watch the first half again anyways, but seeing the breathtaking run to open the half would have been fun to see. There’s a 12 minute every play of the game package on Youtube now which I watched.

  • @drgnslayr I’ll take your bet that you’re the only one who’s seen it more than once.

However - I will ALSO wager that I’m the only one who calls themselves a KU fan that went to bed at halftime. You’re welcome. If i didn’t, we lose.

I’ve watched the second half twice since then. Still can’t believe it.

  • @nuleafjhawk My 11-year-old son was on the verge of tears and acting like a punk at halftime. I told him to stop or he was headed to bed. Man that would suck to have gone to bed at halftime!!!

I was punking out to at half- - said I was done lol - -I knew we were better then that and just playing like crap. - Told the wife I was going to bed was done with this crap, no way w coming back from that large of deficit.- - So I went to bed but left the radio on to the game - -they started the come back and I was like yep - -I KNEW IT that’s all I had to do. I bet if you were to take a survey and if people are REALLY hones you would be surprised at exactly how many actually did other type things of the same manner

  • @drgnslayr

I’ve rewatched the first part of the first half twice, stopped watching when we hit 18 points since I knew that was the most painful section of the game. I do want to go back and analyze some things like physicality being allowed on certain plays that ended up in non-foul calls and led to that run they went on. I recall several what the heck plays so I want to confirm what I saw live.

  • I watched the game with a friend and my cousin was supposed to come to watch, but was sick.

I was pissed and shocked at halftime… but I felt sure we would make a run in the second half. I kind of wanted us to be down by a few at half because I knew that would stimulate the guys for a run like in the Miami game. I felt sure we had the composure to make the run.

I knew we could come back, even from 15, but I wasn’t convinced we would come all the way back. I was sitting on the fence… though I felt certain we would make it a game again. I don’t even think Self thought they would come all the way back.

This group wasn’t showy. They weren’t big at “talking the talk” but boy did they “walk the walk!”

  • I’ve watchedthe Miami game twice, Villanova game twice and final game three times

There is a pin down screen by Bacot for a Manek three that is such a moving screen I can’t believe it didn’t get called. Just one example…

  • @Kcmatt7

    yes that was blatantly missed.

Just watched the condensed game again. Wow I’m pumped now. The intensity in that game, unmatched.

Villanova was our best played game of the tournament imo. Both halves just completely awesome and we needed it as Nova was lights out in the 2nd half.

  • @BShark

And they lost by 15. Even better!

  • @BeddieKU23 we went Golden State on their asses. We were due.

I think if you don’t count the 16 seed game (entirely fair) it was really our only complete game of the tournament. Miami and UNC the 2nd half was excellent. First half against Providence was okay. Don’t think we played a good half against Creighton.

  • @Kcmatt7

I was amazed at how many times Manek almost died in this game. The tv folks showed him take two shots to the head… but there were others. Talk about bad luck! Here’s another one that almost happened. Imagine a knee to the head!

  • @Kcmatt7 A couple of plays before that the elbow in the back of Remy Martin underneath their basket.

  • @wissox

It’s karma… again. Manek is known to play rough… usually dealing out blows instead of taking them!

  • I actually haven’t gotten to rewatch the game at all yet. Hopefully sometime this weekend.

  • I think anyone who went to bed, or quit watching, at halftime, and then either tuned in after we caught up, or who has watched the second half after knowing we won, has CHEATED!

You people didn’t have to suffer through all the highlights of the 1st half, the shaking heads, or all the effing commercials!!!

You haven’t earned that comeback until you watch halftime, and suffer, suffer, SUFFER!!!

  • I’ve watched the second half a few times. Not really interested in the first half tbh.

only ONE difference I didn’t know we hd won. - I was listening from the 1st inbounds pass of the 2nd half - I just wasn’t gonna watch on TV -at least for a bit. - I thought Well I’ll jsut listen to our local reporters but not have to listen Rafferty or the others sure the hell wasn’t gonna listen to Kenny Davis - Although I heard it all afterwards. - I got to hear Charles talking about he was wondering what the hell we was doing in the 1st half.- - So WRONG I did earn the come back

  • That first half is fine until about 6:08 left. I think we’re tied 22-22 at that point. They score the next 16. In less than 4 min.

    That is hard to watch.

    First half 0/10 don’t recommend.

  • Been busy watching and recording the various game edits on my cable/streaming service (long/short form game edit, Best KU Dunks, etc.). Even recorded the game and postgame on my VCR (to go with the 2008 and 1988 tapes). Always good to have a backup, no matter how old-school.

And a sportscast on one of our local stations here showed a clip where Christian, J-Will and Mitch made an impromptu appearance at Raising Cane’s Chicken in Lawrence. They signed autographs and even took a few orders at the window ! LOL ! (Or is that NIL ?)

I was doing a fantasy baseball draft, and that thought ran through my mind so I had to pop in. I am so blown away. I’m 2 picks away, and need to study… but the thought compelled me.

  • @mayjay But I watched a great MASH episode during halftime which eased my suffering.

  • Actually listened to Self’s speech today from the Memorial Stadium celebration. I’m paraphrasing, but he said something to this effect, “these guys played a great game yesterday, well not the first 20 minutes, but…”
