@BeddieKU23 Self has a lot of ridiculous records but that doesn’t pertain to much with this group. I’d like to see those numbers from both 03-22 and from 23 to now. I know we have a losing road record by over 10 games in that span and I’ll bet it’s a losing record vs ranked opponents.

I think you could circle a lot things in this one that were an issue. My main concern as it has been most the season is the rebounding. The refs were garbage and it’s starting to become major news across the country right now because what is a foul or a traveling one game is not in another. Sometimes which end it is on is completely different, they could’ve very easily called at least another 10 fouls on Arizona with how tight the whistle was for them. You guys and gals know I’ve always said professional sports in this country are rigged. I’m starting to wonder if college isn’t the same. It literally looked like KU cut it to 2 and the refs got a page or text reminding them of the spread. I think they should press have conferences after the game for officials. I mean how many of us can repeatedly do our job wrong or not all without having repercussions? The guy cleaning the ice machine at McDonald’s gets written up for forgetting to do it but officials at the second highest level of sports in this country making 6 figures have to answer to nobody.

Sorry... I've been AWOL! I only watched 3 minutes of this game, and I'm glad I missed it. I just looked at the box score and it feeds right into a thought I've had for quite some time.... it's about Tre. Tre has been our most consistent player all year and I am very glad we have him, because he usually finds his way to putting up good stats with lots of points and some needed rebounds. I'm thinking Tre is a guy who always takes advantage of the opportunity to prosper on average defenders. But when the competition toughens up, his production dies. He scored 2 against ISU, and 4 against UA. And I noticed this same trend in other tough battles. We really can't afford almost no production from any position. This is worse than Juan. Concerning DP... it was hard to imagine him doing well in this game. Hostile environment and energetic defense. Coming off the flu. Knocking the rust off his game. And he still isn't integrated into the offense. Until he starts averaging at least 4 apg, I won't be convinced he is integrated. He should be creating even more than that! I've heard all the excuses why he doesn't produce assists and I'm not buying any of them. His assist line might not be as important to NBA scouts as his points line, but I guarantee you it is important. At this point in the season, he really can't miss more games if we hope on really capitalizing on using him towards anything near the potential. But since our depth is limited, we can still use him no matter what, but we just can't hope to get a real bump. I wasn't really expecting we would leave the Hilton with a W, but I was hoping more for a loss similar to what UH just had. To see such a fall off like that doesn't really give me March optimism. But I predicted we would lose a few more then have another team meeting like we did earlier. We've seen so much recent growth... hope that keeps going because we need more development to be truly competitive in March. I've forgotten completely about competing for the B12 crown.

@Jayhawk_69 a win Monday would be massive imo, and would put us right back on track, especially if our core players all play fairly well to well.

Ugh, looks like the Chiefs will have mostly all new WRs next season. Rashee Rice seems to be in trouble again. Domestic violence claims this time. Hope it's not true. It could be that the WR and RB rooms look totally different next year. crazy. maybe not a bad thing though.

Is Case is the one doing the portal scouting I hope and pray he leaves. I’ll give him some credit with Tre and Melvin. The problem is we don’t need a shooter, you need a minimum of two IMO. Tre was much improved in that department but really struggled going 2-15 in the post season.

In an effort to distract thought from this year's basketball team, here's another "look back." The '80s is an era that is difficult to write about. It’s difficult because I was as close to the program as anyone could be who was not on the University payroll. I saw first-hand how difficult it was to compete in athletics without the support of the University’s administration. (Gene Budig) In the early 1980’s, I joined a local KU support group in Kansas City called the Hawks Club. The main purpose was to sell KU football season tickets. Heading into the 1984 season, I had become president of the Hawks Club and took the leadership position seriously. As a club, we sold the most season tickets ever. My involvement in the Hawks Club was my first opportunity to get close to the program and the players. My son, Jason, was a budding little league quarterback and placekicker. In the spring of 1983 I met Bruce Kallymeyer, the K.U. placekicker. That summer, Bruce volunteered to work with Jason. Because Bruce was from the Shawnee Mission area, I drove Jason across town to Shawnee Mission East to meet on their football field. Bruce was 20 minutes late, apologizing because he had been helping to complete the harvest of his parents’ asparagus crop! Opening up a big net bag full of footballs, Bruce and Jason kicked, and I shagged balls! I wanted to pay Bruce for his time, but he was adamant about not jeopardizing his eligibility. Bruce, by the way, kicked 78.6 percent of his career field goals and in 1981 set the K.U. single season record of 85.7%. A year later, we worked with kicker Dodge Schwartzberg. His dad was president of Lawrence Paper Co. In 1985 the K.U. kicker was Chase Van Dyne, again from Shawnee Mission. Jason had a chance to work with Chase, too. That winter, at halftime of a K.U. basketball game, Chase spotted us and came up to our seats to say “Hi.” I was so often impressed with the quality of young men on the K.U. football teams. Unrelated to KU, but a good kicking story is one involving Jan Stenerud, the All-Pro kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs who had retired in 1985 after finishing his career with Green Bay and then Minnesota. While on a business trip to Green Bay, I stopped by a Packers practice and was standing outside a chain link fence. Jan was off kicking by himself. I yelled, “Hey, Jan, I’m from KC.” He walked over to the fence and said, “What the heck are you doing here?” We had a brief conversation. Back in K.C. the following summer, I was in Jan’s office to buy a kicking tee from him for Jason. (Jan had developed and was selling his own branded tee.) Jason was a left-footed kicker, and Jan didn’t have in stock a standard left-footed tee. So he gave me a taller, non-legal, 3” high tee saying, “The refs will never notice. Heck, I wore baseball cleats on my plant foot in Green Bay and the refs never noticed!” And the high school refs never notice Jason’s 3” tee!
