Arterio Morris

  • The problem is the difficulty discerning true innocence vs smokescreens. The feeling that a 5-star gets away with awful stuff just bc he is a 5-star is a tough thing to shake.

Hypothetically if Morris is cleared of all charges, would anyone be OK with him staying? Doubt we ever get that level of clarity with this situation, but even if we did I’m having a hard time coming up with a scenario where I wouldn’t want KU just to be done with him. This is your second chance, so it is your responsibility to make sure you dont put yourself in these situations. Plus him tweeting what he did after the news broke goes to show he doesn’t understand the severtity of the situation.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, if Morris is cleared of wrongdoing, people still want him kicked off the team because why? Because he allowed himself to be targeted for a false accusation? How does one prevent others from scheming against you and making a false accusation? “I’m sorry Arerio, but since someone lied about you now we must remove you from our team.”

Edit: Come to think of it, if we start removing players based on false accusations, whats to stop a bunch of KState fans or Texas fans from falsly accusing each of our players one by one until we’ve kicked everyone off the team? lol

I certainly get what you’re saying.

But an incident at 5:30AM from someone who has already shown the capability to commit violence against women is a lot different than a honey pot scheme from an opposing fanbase. I think we can likely all agree with that.

I think an indefinite suspension until this is sorted out is fine and the university taking a stance of “Due Process” is an appropriate policy. If the allegations are proven true, I do think Bill should take some responsibility for bringing him on to a campus in Lawrence. He should at the very least also be the one who pays the eventual multi-million dollar settlement to this woman as well. That won’t happen, but it should.

Agreed, it’s very hard to give him the benefit of the doubt

  • @RockkChalkk your edit is quite inflammatory, this obviously wouldn’t be the case with any other player. Morris has a history of domestic violance and only got a plea deal because the victim wasn’t going to testify. That case has plenty of evidence that he shows little respect from women and it is unlikely he would have gotten off if she did. Could he have changed? Yes, but in my eyes he needs to prove that and a new accusation popping up is not how you do that.

I would maybe be comfortable with him staying if there is some sort of combination of no evidence of any wrong doing, victim has a history of false accusations/proof she is looking for a payout, and his behavior that night by witnesses is impeccable. But knowing the case was already forwarded to prosecutors makes me think the likelyhood of all that minimal.

  • @Kcmatt7 If it was up to Bill this never gets out.

  • @BShark said in Arterio Morris:

So in your opinion Bill would try to cover up a rape on campus to keep a player on a team? That is what you are actually saying??

  • Hmmm. Suddenly find myself considering site names that are less KU basketball specific…

  • @Woodrow I believe he wishes it never happened, he does have a wife, a daughter and gdaughters.

  • I wonder how long it will be before we start to get the real details of this incident…

That’s not what he was implying

  • Honestly I’m still not fully sure anything truly terrible happened. Still a chance he plays for KU later in the season IMO. I was just saying Self would have preferred to handle this internally.

  • I’m fine with how it’s being handled so far. Self gave a very talented player a second chance. Now that an accusation has been made, that kid is being kept away from the program while the accusation is being investigated which is the correct call. If the investigation shows that there’s a reasonable chance something bad happened that night, then you send Morris on his way. If the investigation shows that it’s very likely nothing bad happened, then you allow him to stay on the condition that of new evidence comes up, then you reserve the right to revisit Morris’s status in the program.

  • Does anyone know if Morris is living in McCarthy Hall?

  • If the Title IX folks are the ones ultimately deciding this… woof. Talk about a totally opaque and garbage process.

    He was

Been forwarded to Douglas County DA. Which…is a bit of a mess right now.

  • @BShark one does not preclude the other

  • @BShark - my question is related to where he’s living after the suspension. Since he can’t participate in team activities, I would think he’s living elsewhere.

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in Arterio Morris:

Correct. Seems to be running simultaneously. Don’t think DA has made a decision yet last I knew.

He’s suspended, not kicked off the team. That would be rough, get in the doghouse and Bill makes your run some stair laps before he evicts your sorry butt.

  • Just another in the multitude of LFK’s homeless population smh

  • Does anyone know, seeing as we just lost another scholarship player, if we are looking to add anyone else to the roster for depth?

  • Vern saying it’s unlikely he plays for KU but he hedged of course based on the unknowns of what the DA will do…

How we ended up in this situation will forever baffle me.

  • It’s extremely bad. 0% to play at KU.

  • Details coming out soon?

  • @MR11 said in Arterio Morris:

    Maybe today.

  • This make me sick, especially for the victim. Sad that he just threw away his potential for a nice future. Having Wayne in our program should be a factor with these kids. At least recognize the need for xtra help. I’m of course thinking this went south. Sounds like we did help him get out of trouble, just couldn’t keep him there.

  • Well looks like he wrote his own future - extremely sad had a chance to do something with his life. Talented , had a choice - -High road OR low road - - unfortunately he took the low road.

Was annoyed at the time but at this point we honestly deserve it. Hope Bill learns something from it.

  • @BShark

Unless by some miracle things change I’m chalking this up as a “should have known” situation. Never a dull moment it seems

  • Still waiting for some facts!

  • News dump coming on Friday?

  • You never know when a person can change someone’s life for the better. We have a lot of good mentors on staff, coach Q is a good one too.

  • SMH

  • @BShark kick him out….he’s done the suspension is pointless

  • Any news released? You’d be a creep and a disgusting human to rape someone but you arguably could be the stupidest person alive to do with others present.

  • Officially charged with rape.

  • Looks like officially dismissed from the team as well.

  • Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, jackass

  • 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Should have known they’d defer to Friday.

  • Really sucks that we mostly all saw at least something like this coming. There are some things that warrant a second chance at the limelight and others that just don’t. I hope he gets some help and can figure out how to exist in this world without harming others. But glad he’s not going to play an official game in crimson and blue.

  • Dam , some guys just don’t get it. Here you are free ticket through School full Scholi , got possible money making career in front of you - - get your degree , and you DO THIS geez - – NO - - MEANS NO

  • Three other players listed as witnesses (not involved, but may have info). WONDERFUL. Big Mistake, Bill.

Now we have to pray these three other teammate witnesses were just innocent bystanders who happened by.

  • I’m sorry for the victim. I was for giving the kid a second chance but I was wrong. Get this kid out of here

  • In general I’m in favor of second chances but a second chance at a place like Kansas was not what he deserved. With his baggage he needed to drop down to the mid-major level, pay his dues, play well, and keep his record clean for a year, then after that returning to elite college ball could be an option. Allowing him to play for us after the past he’s had sends the wrong message.

  • Now the healing can begin.

  • Content/Trigger warning: depiction of rape

Lock him up, throw away the key. DISGUSTING.

  • @BShark He’s about to get the same treatment for years.
