Always believed there was a legit chance of this happening, made too much sense. Glad the door was able to remain open long enough for this to happen! Rock Chalk!!

RE: Transfer Rumblings
Just want to say i love all the discussion here and everyone brings great insight and opinions. And thank you for allowing me to share mine from time to time. Appreciate you all very much. Hopefully our hawks reload and put together another title contending team for 2023.

RE: Terrance Ferguson could still be a Jayhawk?
I highly doubt that he is reconsidering his decision to attend Alabama. I’m not quite sure why these elite recruits are still choosing these mid level schools with average coaches. I think its one of two reasons:
-
PT is more important than winning.
-
If they do care about winning, (meaning winning an NCAA championship, final 4 appearance, even a conference championship) they have been drinking too much of the cool-aid fed to them during the recruiting process. Its clear that its not going to happen… lets take an early look at last year’s examples…
Cal: After finishing 8th out of 12 last year in their league, they landed two top 10 recruits. They are currently 4-2 and on a two game losing streak yet they have not even played another ranked team.
Miss St.: After finishing 12th out of 14 in their conference last year, they landed a top 10 recruit which many claimed to be a top 5 guy. They are currently 3-3 even though they haven’t played a ranked team yet. One of those losses came against the perennial doormat of the Big12 in Texas Tech.
LSU: After finishing 3rd in their league they landed the top overall recruit and have been at the top of the hype train all offseason. Unlike the other two teams listed above, I actually think this team will make the NCAA tournament this year despite their current 3-2 record (also yet to play a ranked team) and two game losing streak.
So… lets take a look at TFerg’s Alabama choice. How are they doing so far this year?
After an early season embarrassment loss to unranked Dayton 80-48, their current 4-2 season is at a historic high right now as they have defeated two ranked teams in a row for the first time since 2006! (beat #20 Wich St, and #17 ND). Wow, almost 10 years since they have last done that. I guess these are the kinds of things one can expect to celebrate at one of these type of programs.
Of course its still early and teams can get hot late and go on a run but its rare. The early indications that I see tell me that these schools are not changing very much from previous seasons based on these star recruits joining the team.

RE: Crootin Thread III, Wherein Some Players Probably Commit to KU
@jayballer54 Try to think of it this way, there are only 13 spots on the roster (scholarship spots) and when you subtract returning players, we can really only “win” on recruiting on a handful of players each year due to that alone. Don’t let the “misses” get you down.
-
RE: Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread
Well how about that for timing, there is the first domino! Wow, that’s a big commitment that really wasn’t on the radar until Friday. Amazing.

RE: Zim makes it official.
Good, really didn’t want this guy. Not interested in the players that think they are above the program.

What's wrong with Coach Self?
Piss poor game last night, team looked terrible in many ways. The biggest question I have after letting it set in for a while is “What is wrong with Coach Self?” Forget what I saw last night, its what I didn’t see. I didn’t see Coach Self getting heated, face red, trying to light a fire under the team that played flat, no energy, putrid defense, and just went through the motions. They weren’t diving for loose balls and lost almost all of the 50/50 balls, rebounding was terrible and got out worked for them all game, and so many stupid turnovers. Where is the Coach Self that I come to know and love? So many times last night somebody would have a bonehead turnover and I’d expect Self to lay into him but nothing. I knew they were going to lose last night in the first few minutes of the second half when nothing had changed. The energy level was the same, still not competing for rebounds, still playing lax defense, I knew at that point that they would lose. I’m used to seeing the team come out with a newfound energy after halftime with everybody suspecting the paint on the walls was being peeled off by Self’s “motivational” halftime talks. But not this time. Nothing. No fire on the sideline, no fire at halftime, nothing.
What is wrong with Coach Self??

RE: KJ Adams Discussion
One of my all-time favorite Jayhawks was Kevin Young. I see a lot of similarities between the role that KY had and what KJ could be. Young managed just fine playing alongside Withey.

@dylans well seems like we are interested in tv shows, gardening, wisconsin basketball, and probably a few other things most people can get behind?
I’d still love to see a KU Baseball section on here!

I would be good with Oats if Bill taps out. Not the others.

RE: What does “faith in Bill” mean?
It has been tough to watch the last few years. The play on the court has been a big drop off. The Juan stuff and now Flory has really burned.

RE: NCAA Tournament Discussion
@Texas-Hawk-10 that’s wild. Sounds like his players aren’t the only one’s blatantly travelling. He’s now travelling as well… to a new team!

RE: Off-season Conditioning
College athletes are given summer workout programs to do. Usually there is a ‘test’ upon return of break. (conditioning, core lifts, body fat, etc.). If athletes don’t pass the tests there is usually some sort of consequences. KU is an elite program, if players are not self motivated enough to do their part to help the team they are not the kind of players we should have in this program.

RE: What does “faith in Bill” mean?
I still have faith in Bill. Going to zone against Ark almost won him the game. I think Harris, Hunter, and KJ leaving will unlock some more more clarity for him. The ultimate team killer these last 5 years was Harris and Bill sticking with him as long as he did. He killed any chances the team had to go far and he seemed to get worse every year. He was very strong on defense early in his career and that even went downhill. He brought nothing to the table and took dimensions away from a team that is normally dynamic. Bad shooter, bad passer, doesn’t value the ball, doesn’t lead vocally, average at dribble penetration. I’m so happy to see him gone. What bothers me the most are the small things, how come we don’t have real leaders on the team? Think back to Devonte Graham. He would be pulling the team together on the floor for quick huddles, arms around each other, etc. Positive reinforcement, etc. These guys just play with emotionless faces which is a reflection of Harris’ demeanor whether they are up 30 or down 30, its the same. As PG and senior, he sets the tone and it has been horrible for so long.
Another thing that I think reflects on Bill is the team doesn’t run anymore. They used to be able to run fast break over and over and utilize elite athleticism and beat other teams down the court for layups. If that happens 5-6 times per game (which is usually on the low end) thats 10-12 easy points of an advantage over the other team. Any missed shot was a fast break, even after some makes. With Harris running the show it was always a slow dribble up the court and start running the most vanilla offense I can recall seeing. There are very few run plays. And when they do, they run them slow and with bad passes. Its terrible. PG needs to set the example for everyone else and his example has led to this steady decline. Hopefully we get back to real KU basketball starting next year with guys in the mold of Dotson, Frank, Graham, etc. Harris era has been a disaster.

RE: Need Games To Start
@kjayhawks said in Need Games To Start:
@dylans it’s been weird for sure @RockkChalkk it ain’t his fault they keep showing him. He’s there supporting his country and several friends. Kinda like the Taylor Swift hate at chiefs games, she there supporting her BF literally nothing wrong with it.
I see your point. To me, I think he crosses the line by joining the studio for segments, when he is in the pool with Phelps for a segment, when he plants himself next to parents of kids about to compete in their big event, etc. The camera is obviously going to show the parents after their kid does their event and there he is again. It is just different than say, Tom Cruise who was there and shown a few times by the cameras but I didn’t get the sense that he was trying to steal the spotlight.
