Is the negative attention nationwide or only on this site? I would guess that many of the kids playing college sports come with some kind of risk. I would also. think that when a court decision is made then a decision will be made on his playing or not. Let’s not be judge, jury and executioners since we know only what the media has chosen to give us.

I haven’t seen one national person even comment on this signing let alone write about it. So let’s just say it’s a nationwide outrage.

The commitment just happened yesterday and the NFL Draft is going on this weekend. We’ll probably hear a little bit about it next week.

So people that cover college basketball don’t have time to fire off a tweet because the draft is on? That’s your take?

Because most journalists cover multiple sports if they don’t work for ESPN or Fox. The NFL Draft is one of the biggest media coverage events in the U.S. so there’s going to be a lot more attention on the draft this weekend. Guys that cover college basketball that have a major issue with this aren’t going to simply fire off a tweet and be done with it. Someone like Pat Forde will probably have his latest KU hit piece on this out sometime early next week.

I also don’t know what LJW coverage will end up looking like since Matt Tait’s last day there was this past week before Morris committed.

@TYOHawk Are you really comparing a DUI to domestic violence? We jump the shark so fast as a society.

Jalen handles himself in an extremely respectful way. I would be proud to call him my kid from what I’ve seen of him. Yessir, no sir, makes eye contact, payed his dues for his mistake. - yes a mistake.

There is zero excuse for what Morris did as it’s portrayed. Sure people deserve a second chance - but it should be a privilege to play basketball for KU, one he should have lost for his lack of character.

There is no excuse for a DUI especially with Uber and other traveling services made available. Same thing with domestic violence being unacceptable.

Domestic violence is obviously unacceptable but let the process play out in court and with our judicial system not Reddit or IG posts.

How has your view of the program changed?

Before I could defend Kansas’ virtue to the KSU homers. Now I really can’t. It’s changed my view from my Roy Williams tinted good old boy routine to one of cynicism. Jaybate was unfortunately more right than I wanted to admit.

I guess I’m more disgusted in the lack of a convictions that fans have. If this guy played for UK or Missouri we would slaughter his character and the programs for selling their soul for wins. Since he signed with KU I’ve already seen people trying to justify his actions. (He’s not a bad kid/she made it up/he didn’t do it/it’s not that bad/etc). If we held the program to higher standards they would not be able to stoop to these lows.

The Venn diagram of the “get over Morris” and “actually Tyreek Hill is a great father” fans is a circle

Haha I’m trying to tone it down and not be such an arse. @wissox speaks up and that’s when I know I’ve gone to far.

I mean he played at Texas and I don’t remember it ever mentioned during the games against us.

I think we are fine and hope he mans up here at ku

  • Can he man up and get his off the court life in order?

What influence will Self have on him?

Will KU athletics put him in some sort of counseling?

    We will find out.

  • I dont think anybody likes the stuff that is out there about him off the court. However i find it odd how some people will despise him even if he becomes the charitable man of the year every year he is here. Meanwhile, same people can look past Jalen’s DUI, Marcus Morris’ bar fight (could have also had a misdemeanor assault charge as a result), and celebrate when Braun stares down an opponent and yells “fcking btch” on live tv.

  • @RockkChalkk I will root for him to do good while he’s here. And hope that the staff has a good plan to keep him on the straight and narrow. I suppose I don’t expect him to be a saint while he’s here (he’s still a “kid”).

But if ANYTHING happens on campus where Morris assaults a woman, Bill Self needs to resign. Maybe Goff too. If they think Morris is in no way a risk to the women on campus then they should be willing to put their jobs on the line.

If something does happen, and Bill doesn’t get forced out with it, I’ll probably never watch another game in my life. That’s where I stand on this whole situation.

Now, I hope Arterio is a 1st-team All-American. He has a lot of traits that will serve him well under Bill. At this very second, there is a legitimate possibility he is our leading scorer in 2023. The Juan/Elmarko/Morris backcourt is salty on paper. Should be able to really pressure the ball. This also ensures we have some talent coming off of the bench. Either Morris, Elmarko or Timberlake. Morris also brings some desperately needed shooting into the lineup. He’s also a plus athlete for his size.

All of this to say, the talent is certainly intriguing.

  • Don’t hate the young man. Hate the decision making process that brought him here.

  • He’s a Jayhawk now. I’ll support him and root for him unless he gives me reason not to, no different than the other players.

I don’t hate the kids by any means. CB didn’t commit a crime in any way shape or form so I don’t think it’s fair to lump him in this group. I’d add Vick, Josh, Bragg and several others in the hard to root for group though.

It does sound like he was on the straight and narrow while at Texas. Reportedly anyway. Apparently coachable and his teammates liked him. This is all grapevine stuff.

You came with the HEAT in paragraphs 2/3 here, I respect it.

I think Timberlake will start fwiw, at the 3 spot. Caveat that if his defense isn’t acceptable then probably not. But it seems to be the plan.

Morris is no Timberlake shooting but yeah he isn’t bad. I’ve for other additions to be plus shooters as well. It was a clear need going into the portal and why while Ingram would have been fine for us, it doesn’t tear me up that Bill didn’t get him in hindsight.

Talent wise Morris is a no brainer take. Probably don’t get him without the issues.

  • Quite a few strong statements about Morris here. Thanks BShark for calming words. Self and the school ABSOLUTELY know the risks. Let’s get the venting finished and then chill a bit…

Oh I’ve had my moments with this 😂

I think this chatter will continue in a lot of spots until the next commitment distracts us.

  • @BShark I think Timberlake starting makes perfect sense. It’s looking more and more like the lineup will be Juan/Morris/Timberlake/KJ/Dickinson. Then you have Elmarko/MAdams/Udeh as your main subs. That’s a pretty dang good team.

I really think they have to find a way to open up a 4th spot and get another rotation piece though. Might be the difference between a Natty run and a Sweet 16.

Yep. The 4 spot is the only major concern in this scenario.

  • @BShark I really think the KJ/Marcus combo is going to be just fine. KJ did average almost 11 a game last season… How often do players take a major step back scoring?

  • @Kcmatt7 Just saying, Kevin was almost useless at the 3pt line. I know I’m in the minority, but I think KJ is going to feast in that 4 spot.

Your moving KJ a lot further out on the court -he not gonna be just getting lobs or little bank shots. He is going to have to develop some kind of mid range jumper to play a four, and at this point – He doesn’t have it. Sure he took a few outside J’s last year with luke warm success at best, unless he works really hard , bust his ass in the off season I can’t see how he can possibly play an effective 4. -His scoring at this point with his current shot he will not be able to get it done - Defense will back off him until he can prove he is capable of dropping the outside J. -We better hope we have better answer

Changing position is a factor though. Marcus regressed in some ways offensively his SR year due to that, despite the numbers being solid.

Need Hunter for this but he could be okay there. If you don’t get Hunter then KJ probably starts at the 5 again.

If KU lands Dickinson, KJ will be fine offensively because Dickinson can step out and hit 3’s and you could basically run Dickinson as the 4 and KJ at the 5 on offense because Dickinson does have 3 point range.

If KU doesn’t land Dickinson and Self has to go with a combination of KJ/Udeh/Ejiofor at the 4/5 spots, we’ll probably see some sets we haven’t seen out of Self in years including quite a bit of hi/lo action. I would look at what sets the 2008 team ran when Russell Robinson and Darrell Arthur were in the the game because Robinson was a pass first PG like Harris amd Arthur only took 12 3’s all season.

  • @dylans Yes. Robert Johnson was a meh musician but wanted stardom. The story is that he sold his soul to the devil in exchange for fame and fortune, which he did achieve. Google Robert Johnson Crossroads. It’s an interesting story.

That is probably what w will do run hi /low cause it’s looking a lot less all the time we are getting Hunter. - I saw now where the staff has reached out to the FSU transfer 7’4 & 255 – , were reaching out to a lot of other 5’s I could see a back up - -but with them reaching out to so many makes me feel Hunters ship has sailed- - put to all the contacts they are making on top of Bill’s un-scheduled visit again to Hunter, making you think they know things are shaky on that front.

  • First, let me just say I am a fan of good character guys. We’ve had some guys with great character over the decades (Roy was very focused on this), and they are some of my all-time favorites.

That said, I’ve observed HCBS recruit guys from tough backgrounds and try to give them a chance. I admire Self for providing an opportunity for redemption to kids that have made mistakes and/or had the deck stacked against them since birth. He’s had a decent track record, especially when you think about guys that were recruited ~2006-2016. There have been some whiffs as well.

Still I have some unease with this particular situation. I trust that Self & Staff have a lengthy and clear list of rules in place and a very low tolerance for any transgression. I also trust that they have strong safeguards in place to protect the reputation of the program and the University due to the behavior of players. But I can’t ignore the fact that there are some things beyond his (and the staff’s) control.

I hope it goes well… but hope is not a strategy.

  • @bskeet Well said. I hope we don’t become the Oakland Raiders (old school) of college basketball.

  • with what was said on Morris did - -is 100 % wrong and should not and can not be tolerated .However like it or not he IS now a Jay Hawk and I will back him on the floor 10000 % - off the floor I don’t have to associate with him-- like him or anything - -No place for those kind of actions , but to say I’m going to boycott and not go to any games because Morris is here - -that is just silly - -childish , like that’s really going to hurt KU and the School - I’m still going & I’m still pulling for whoever is on the court for us.

I’m not gonna rant - -rave - -boo-- -scream - -or any of that crap at Arterio - -I WILL YELL - -HOLLER CHEER AND CLAP for him when he makes good plays he wearing Crimson & blue uniform - -dam straight I’m gonna cheer for him as well as everyone else that steps onto that floor for KU -I’ll just sit back and let the Judicial system take care of the rest - it’s called a legal system that’s what it’s there for - -to provide justice. I’m far from being able to sit back and be The Judge , - The Jury , - -And Convictioner - -me ? - I’m going to continue to be fan , a true fan that pulls for the team no matter let the other people take care of the off the Court stuff - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG

  • @jayballer67 To me it’s cool if you want to continue to be a fan and pull for him off the court and not associate or like him off the court, but I don’t think it’s silly or childish for someone else to say they might rethink going to games, giving their money to a program actively lifting up a player in a situation like this.

Feel like this is a big to each his own kind of deal. Everyone has their own personal connection to issues like this so for me I’m gonna do my best not to judge others on their takes here. The only take I have a real problem with is if someone were to say it isn’t a big deal and shouldn’t even be considered but I haven’t seen any of that going around.

Oh it is a very big deal , I’ll pull for him on the ourt for sure --yet doesn’t mean I have to deal with it off the court. I’ve got my own problems to worry about- - kinda like the phrase - -let ye who is sinless - - Cast the 1st stone.- -but as long as he is in a KU uniform and on the floor - - -I’m pulling for him , put my trust in Coach Self I’m pretty sure he knows what he is doing -so I’ll let him do it
