He resembles Mario to me, and shoots like him too. He drives to the basket like DD. I see why everyone was so hot to trot to get him.

It’s been a while since KU had a PG that had good size. Really since Tyshawn Taylor. We have had lots of good PG in that time - Mason, Graham, Harris, among them - but not a PG with this kind of size and skill in combination.
The two things I like most about him are his size, which unlocks a lot of options in his game, and his ability to change speeds. There are lots of fast PG that are fast all the time. There are lots of crafty PG that keep you off balance with their shiftiness. Jackson looks like he can do both. He can hit the afterburners if he wants, or use his first step to get by, get the defender on his hip and then manipulate the defense with his size, strength and pace.
I hope he stays at least a couple of years, but he may have NBA offers before then.
-
I’m with you… it appears he has the skill set we are used to, but also the luxury of size! His height, girth, and arm length should bode well for developing defensive skills, too.
I doubt he becomes an OAD, but you never know what is in the player’s mind and what hype he will receive. I’m thinking he will be sharing PT with others so doubt he builds a complete resume in one year.
-
I would be surprised if Jackson ever starts at PG for us. Juan has 3 more years (2 overlap with Elmarko) so he’ll be a 2 for his time at KU.

Yeah Dajuan is starting at PG as long as he is here. Should be a dynamic duo.

Great video, great kid.

Elmarko is from Jamaica, and is a 5th cousin to Usain Bolt.
-
@Jethro I have no clue about any 2nd cousins, which requires common great-grandparents. 5th would require common great-great-great-great-grandparents. Might be easier to keep track in an island family!

I thought it was kind of cool. 5th cousin is way out there.
-
Lol. You guys (and football) have kept the off season interesting. Well done!
-
I think I’m could be a 5th cousin to the half the buckets reading list. Lol. Everyone with blue (or green eyes) traces back to a common ancestor- mutants. Ha.
-
Just discovered I am related to Elmarko! Bumba! lol

And the common mutant ancestor was probably just marauding through, much further back. pillaging and leaving blue-eyed blond children behind all over.

I know where I got my hops…

Looks like he is just gliding out there. He’s fast and quick, like Dotson was.
-
Just how you want a future guard to look. His speed and athletic ability shine above everyone else on the court.
-
He’s going to be a star. He’s a better shooting version of Dotson. More polished on the offensive end with the prolific speed. And I love Dotson- one of my all time favs.
-
Those that scout him have said he’s still a bit raw in certain areas of the game (makes sense since he hasn’t played the sport that long) but man does he do a lot of things that translate to the next levels.
I see him fitting in well next to Juan in the backcourt next season.
-
Some people are not going to like my comparison (though I love it), but he gives me Tyshawn Taylor vibes. Decent shooter. Will be able to take his man off the bounce whenever he wants. But he is going to have moments where you scratch your head and wonder what the hell he was thinking.
Tyshawn was an All-American as a Senior and legitimately dominated the 2nd half of the season in that National Championship runner up 2012 team and he went on to play meaningful minutes in the NBA. So to me that is no slouch comparison… I know Tyshawn made some people want to pull their hair out, but overall he was a really solid player for KU. If we get that from Elmarko I’ll be super happy.
-
Elmarko , - Explosive first step ? - - -Check- - - - - -Smooth Shot ? - - -Check - - - Sweet Court vison ? - - Check. Another future KU Stud? - -Check. What’s not to like ? - -gonna be good I DO believe.
-
@Kcmatt7 People forget how good Ty was. Especially as a defender. Bill does great work when he has a guard that can just get by guys.
-
I like that comp as well. I settled on Dotson due to recency & my projection for how long he sticks around. They are/were both ranked around the same as well, both late bloomers.
I hope we get everything Tyshawn was without the mistakes. Elmarko will have his growing pains but hopefully playing alongside and learning from Juan is a real positive for him before he hopefully takes the keys over the year after.

Good Tyshawn- not bad Tyshawn. I think Elmarko 's step backs and shimmies are going to be sensational. Plus, he looks just like Mario.

Gonna be a fan favorite I suspect.

What’s up with the sunglasses, dude? gotta go.
-
I am praying Gradey comes back… maybe we talk “3-peat!”
-
@drgnslayr I’d give it a 1% chance.
-
Gradey is gone with the wind. Good for him!
-
While I selfishly can come up with 100 reasons Gradey should come back, you only need to know his draft stock to see he should go.
-
One thing is clear, no Jayhawk player has ever had as much fun playing here as Gradey! ️ his parents are clearly loving it too! 🥳
-
And Self will be advocating and pushing him to go… The one guy that could take a selfish stand and try and change his mind is very unlikely to do so.

It’s the right thing to do. Even with NIL. Getting guys drafted in the lottery is good for the program and recruiting.
-
@BShark Getting drafted in the lottery pays more than NIL deals will also.

I wish my schedule would let me go watch the game on Tuesday.
-
@BShark I know Collier and Wagner are rates higher but aren’t those two definitely better than Jackson?
-
@kuballin10 We’ll see what they do in college. I’m just excited to have a guy of this level at PG again.
-
He is very fast and has BOUNCE. Not sure if I shared this here yet or not

Does he ever actually play PG here would be a question worth asking. I assume Harris will still be the lead guard most of the time. I ask that because there’s a couple of sites out there already projecting Jackson as a borderline first round pick in '24 draft.
Also, does Harris have 1 or 2 seasons of eligibility left?
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 2. RS Senior next year then a Covid year
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 2 left
Yeah Jackson gonna be lead 2 fused depending on transfers
-
@BShark yeah he looks good hard to judge high school stuff - no structure
Heck MJ looked awesome ala selden came here and couldn’t crack the rotation with a bad bench
