Not expecting any KU players to enter the portal. As of right now, no one is in. Crazy.
This is kind of shocking. At one point, what, there was thought of at least three with a foot in the portal door???
Up to 4.
Winning cures all I guess. Though 2 were a case of people thought Bill would boot them. Very interesting.
This probably means the attrition will be through the draft.
JCL, Cam Martin, Mitch, and Remy were all listed as super seniors, so they are all gone. Big Dave and Och are also gone.
We know that MJ Rice, Gradey Dick, Zuby Ejifor, and Ernest Udeh are all coming. Ejifor and Udeh replace Dave and Mitch. Rice replaces JCL’s roster spot. Dick replaces Remy’s roster spot.
So there are two roster spots open at a minimum, but I’m guessing KU fills three because Braun is probably gone, too.
If we assume that means Wilson is back, our rotation next year is:
Starters: Harris, Dick, Rice, Wilson, Transfer A
Reserves: Ejifor, Udeh, Clemence, Pettiford, Yesufu, Adams, Transfer B.
I don’t know where Kyle Cuffe fits into all of this. Honestly, he is the guy that I can’t really figure out. He’s a very bouncy athlete, but with him redshirting last year, its hard to gauge how the coaching staff feels about him. He can play. But how does he find minutes with Harris, Pettiford, Rice, Dick, Yesufu all playing guard/wing minutes. That’s five guys splitting up 120 minutes already, and we know Self loves both Harris and Pettiford, so 50 of those minutes are already gone.
KU could get by without any transfers, honestly, if Wilson returns. Even without Wilson, they probably don’t have to fill that other slot with a big time guy. But they probably do look for another guy either way.
Cam isn’t gone.
-
Yea there are only 2 spots open to be filled by transfers right now. I think if Hunter does come, Yes is gone. He would have needed a waiver anyways so I don’t think the deadline would have been meaningful for him regardless. That is just my speculation so don’t take it as gospel on the rules there.
Seems like we take a big guard and a true wing to me. Mosely seems in the bag. Hoping the other ends up being Council.

It would be rather interesting if we didn’t take Council, all things considered. Tough business lol.

Are you counting Wilson back in your numbers? I only see room for one transfer. Maybe I’m missing something.
Cam, Joe, Wilson, Harris, Zach, Adams, Pettiford, Cuffe, Dick, Rice, Udeh, Ejiofor. Thats twelve.
And if we took a transfer, that leaves no room for Braun to shock the world and come back for another year if thats the route he chose.

Yea I think you’re on it actually. One left… for now.

Am I weird for being a fan of Yesufu? He seems like a sharp kid with plenty of talent and fit in well. I keep thinking back to that Iowa State game at Ames… which at the time I thought was a victory over a much lesser team. But ISU’s end of the season validated how phenomenal that win was without Ochai.
Yesufu’s line: 23 Min, 5 Reb, 4 Assists, 7 points in a 70-61 win.
Not too shabby for right off the bench. The dude was ready.

I think if Bill really wants/needs to with the possibility of transfers from portal good chance still that Cuffe - - Cam - -& Joe could still be shown the door. - kinda crappy way of handling kids but like anything else I guess when it comes down to it - it’s a business even more so now with this dam NIL seems more like a business - -as we know these Schoi’s are year to year and may not be offered the following year. It’s just a case sometimes of moving some out for what the staff beleives to be better one’s coming in - I really don’t like how they do kids like that sometimes but - -whatcha gonna do
-
@bskeet I’m with you on that. Feel like he has a chance to be REAL good at KU and still has a few years left, no? Seemed to me he was just behind Juan and healthy Remy for PG minutes. He’s now had a year in the system. I’d be surprised if he is in any way ASKED to leave. Think it will be a real battle with him and Bobby next year for that second little guard spot that sometimes plays with Harris and sometimes in place of. And I know we have some strong freshmen wing/guard types coming in but I never trust a freshman to get minutes until I see them play against real d1 competition.

Never say Never
-
@bskeet I love the guy.
But I’m just looking at it through the lens that Pettiford is younger than him and Harris is the same class. If he is ever wanting more than 15-20 mpg it just isn’t going to be at KU.
Unless Yes just gets so good to a point he forces Bill’s hand for more minutes he is essentially just going to be Jeff Hawkins.
-
I miscounted Cam, so we do only have one transfer spot. That makes things really tough, because I’m not sure Clemence works without another big with him, and I am not sure Ejifor or Udeh are day one starters. Maybe I’m wrong about that, or Wilson helps offset a potential lack of rebounding. A guard transfer would be nice, but only if its someone that can be a star, like Mosley. We don’t need depth in the backcourt. We could use some depth in the frontcourt, though.

Rebounding is something I’m not worried about with Zach based on what he showed this year. I think him plus Jalen would be a great rebounding front court tbh.
I am more worried about our two guard spot, but think it will be addressed in the portal.

@FarmerJayhawk Man, if we get Mosely AND Braun comes back…
Harris, Mosely, Braun, Wilson, Clemence n company with HIGH talent game changers on the bench at every spot. Self couldn’t use em all but I bet he’d figure out how to make the best of the players he did use. whew!
-
I don’t honestly think that will be what is best for Braun but boy it would be fun. Imagine being a legit threat to go back to back with your high school buddies playing next to you?

I mean, we simply win it all again in this scenario. Lol.
-
@BShark Right? Just play north carolina again and it’s winner takes all for 23?
-
@BShark But it’s not COMPLETELY out of the realm of possibility, correct? Like Christian’s mom is clearly trying to get Mosely to Kansas. I know she loves Harris too but could there be more motive than that?

Braun back would be the huge surprise, of all the things in that scenario. I’m expecting the rest, quite frankly…

And you can tell from one of the photos that Mosley has elite self discipline and situational awareness

I uh, had some thoughts about that one.

@BShark Like I said, recruitin.

Read a CBS sports article listing and talking about the final transfer time to enter the portal had passed and the 48 hour window had passed this is what they said:
They have Tyrese Hunter as the # 2 in the portal and the top Guard in the portal. - Saying he was improving on his shooting , distrubutes really well and just an absolute menace on defense.
Had Mosley as the # 9 player in the Portal saying he was an instant bucket saying sometimes you might question his shot selection but if they are dropping - - -scored over 20 in 17 games this past Season & scored in the 40’s in two games - - instant offense

@BShark Or an NDA lol
-
@approxinfinity Time to update the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions to subscribers… hah
Does anyone else loathe those as much as I do? I mean, who reads them? They block your entry to an app or site and you have to click “agree” just to move forward… Ok. Sorry for the rant.

If they need a spot, they’ll open one. That’s what I’ve heard for quite awhile. Bill loves the portal and will remake the roster to his heart’s content

Mosley is starting official visits very soon. No date for KU…
Yet

-
Well from what I just read it’s lookig like a little less likely Hunter lands here. - They had a article on remaining portal players and most likely landing spot. - Louisville I guess is in on hi pretty good , and Tennessee in pretty deep to. They did say that there were a few that thought KU might still be able to make a run on him. - -He is visiting Gonzaga this weekend.
Bette chance with Mosley talk about him knowing Braun and friends with Juan Said to keep an eye on KU - -however said there were there teams still trying to make a run on him
-
@jayballer67 I agree not feeling confident on Hunter which sucks as he can help us the most.
Hunter Council Mosley Welch
Bigs wise we seem set unless it’s some stuff Self grabs late but doesn’t look that way.
Juan Rice Mosley/Council (doubt we land both) Wilson Big Z
Bench: Bobby Dick Udeh/KJ/Zuby - whoever is playing well
Thoughts?
-
@kuballin10 If we get Mosley probably a 1-2 seed. FR would need to come along if we don’t get two experienced wings but the talent is there. If we don’t get Mosley…really depends but I could see a 4 seed type year possibly.

Would pretty much agree. - - Between Council / Mosley pretty much a wash - - one offense - -the other more defense , kind of like Council because I think with what we got we can manage the offense , where as always good to have better defensive players. Coach loves the guys that’s willing to play hard at that end of the floor.
Again I think you could go either way with Dick/Rice in the line up either way is ok. Dick again might be a better offensive player - -Rice might be more physical type I can’t really say I would have a problem either way.
I think your right pretty spot on , I think it will be hard to keep Zach out oft the line up. He showed flashes l ast year. One thing is we gonna be young with our big’s KJ , Udeh , Zuby , Zach - that could be interesting who really seperated them selves for that starting spot. - What I have heard about Udeh the kid is gonna be pretty dam good in time - -raw right now but other aspects he has is sweet
-
@BShark you think Mosley is that good?
Council is ally oops like Och
Hunter performed like Remy in March
Mosley can make tough shots and score but isn’t he not very athletic and going to be a liability defensively? Sounds familiar to Remy and we know how Bill feels about guys not playing D. Remy was quick enough to learn but Mosley athletically is limited.
Is Mosley just a 6-6 JCL?
Almost feel like I’d prefer Hunter and Council.
I saw Bill is taking the lead on Mosley so assume they want him as priority number 1. Not sure who is taking the lead on the other two guys.
Hopefully the crap about Hunter not wanting to share the ball with Juan isn’t true
-
@jayballer67 agree on all points
Udeh should be like the big footers at Baylor that set screens, catch lobs, play d and rim run
-
Council is visiting Arkansas
-
JCL is a better shooter than Mosley, but Mosley is a better scorer. Mosley is dangerous from all three levels and can get his shots when he wants them. I would imagine if Mosley comes here he averages 16+ regardless of who all returns because he is a scorer.
I’m still curious on how Udeh turns out here. He’s still pretty raw. He may not be an immediate impact guy, but he could contribute big time at some point.
-
@justanotherfan 16+ is a VERY high bar for a player in Self’s system. Especially if Wilson ends up coming back.

Sounds like the sketchiest NIL deal yet. He played it smart though
-
I was told NIL would mean that big schools poach every good player from small schools…
And this is exactly why NIL is going to level the playing field if schools can get creative.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Antoine Davis used them and abused them. Got a bag though.

of course I say this as the NCAA is trying to set up guidelines that will really end in their own demise. Collectives aren’t going away. You opened pandora’s box for football and it is here to stay.
NCAA really just signing it’s own death warrant if they actually try to crack down on any of this.
-
@Kcmatt7 probably illegal now, huh?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 the NCAA is going to get sued into the ground over the recent guidelines. Pay to play is here to stay.
