These guys sound nice – but thing is we have got to get some guys to move if any of these possible transfer want to come. Just wonder why taking so long. - Heard CAM really doesn’t want to transfer out - -Heard KJ & Mama might have a change of heart an wants to stick. - -Bout the only one I heard quite likely is Cuffe and even he hasn’t come out and said anything yet. - I know it’s all about numbers and such but I rally thought Cuffe had some possibilities for us tape I saw was pretty nice

Bill Self and putting Wings in the lottery. A tale spanning two decades. And just saying that based on the tape I saw, he had a role very similar to Och last season. Says he wants a role similar to what he had to SDSU…
Still seems like a weird fit if Jalen is back, right? Can you play them together?
-
Kentucky landed Antonio Reeves, transfer from Illinois State.
-
But also Bill could get a top 25 defense out of dudes from the rec. So maybe it is a non issue and we just continue with this sort of positionless switch everything basketball that Bill has (thankfully) adopted the last 4-5 seasons with no problems.
I’m just salivating at the thought of Harris/Hunter running PG surrounded by Baylor, Wilson, Dick and Clemence. Where we just pick and roll you to death in the half court.
2018 Nova maybe the last team to have that kind of shooting prowess?

This one was WILD. He was a lock, then he wasn’t with Oregon, Depaul etc being involved then does in fact end up at Kentucky.

Yeah that might be a bit difficult? But maybe it works with Juan and Hunter. Plus Bill Self is pretty good at getting the defense to be good enough.

McCullar of Texas Tech in the portal.
-
@BShark KU a player in this one? He also declared for the draft, needs to pass on that as well obviously.
-
@RockkChalkk Don’t know, haven’t heard anything there.

Yo Silvio do us a solid https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/malachi-smith-1.html
I might actually like this dude over Baylor. Play him at the 3.

Yes! Especially if we get Hunter we’ll need some physicality at the wing spots. Smith and Wilson are great positional rebounders. VROOM VROOM
-
The only bad thing with these guys is -you know DAM WELL that all these others schools recruiting these players -like Hunter , and this kid - - they all are going to do their damnest talking crap on Ku and the possibility of post Season Ban from the NCAA next year and possible probation and saying that we won’t get the type exposure they want and there being a possibility of Coach Self being suspended next year.
You know they gonna do everything they can talking crap about us and the NCAA for next season to scare these guys away from us
-
@jayballer67 been doing that for 3 yrs?
-
@jayballer67 hopefully there’s enough NIL, or other money to bridge the gap of a post season ban.
But as always Spring Billy Goat says hold my beer to recruiting adversity.
-
@jayballer67 It hasn’t seemed to bother our recruiting for this year so far. We have a stacked group of studs coming in.

Hey…I was doing some detective work on recruits, and we got this kid that used to play at Okie St., and he might be pretty good…

Don’t think that there would be a lot of interest - -not trying to sound negative , cause it’s not. The guy has game , big boy , has a pretty nice stroke , smooth , moves pretty well , finish’s - all very nice qualities yet you have to wonder IF we were to show some interested in someone like this- - -would his game translate to major P-5 level ? - Competition going to be a lot stiffer night in night out just wonder how he would be able to compete against other 6’9 - - 6’10 - -6-11 major P-5 big’s. - I do like his game though pretty smooth shot, step away from the bucket a little open space J. -I’m sure he will find a pretty nice home
-
Don’t think we see any movement until next week at this pt. This has all been really drawn out, I’m kind of surprised but think it is related to the barnstorming.
-
Brutal but understand… Guess they will need waivers after that
-
Jahmir Young who was reported to have KU interest (but really that wasn’t accurate) is transferring to Maryland

Think they will be in before that date officially… Doesn’t have to be reported for 48 hours lol.

Watch to see if we bring in the Baylor kid for a visit…
-
@BShark did Hunter ever visit? I read the zoom/FaceTime stuff and he’s in Spokane now on an actual visit. I’m assuming if we get no visit that doesn’t bode well.
Hunter and Harris backcourt would be nasty defensively. Hunter showed this tourney he can hit the shots to absorb Remy’s offensive loss.
Hunter>>>Baylor if I had to pick between the two but Baylor with Clemence would be Self’s hi-low dream with two guys that can stretch the floor to keep the post not clogged up because teams have to honor our shooting ****edit Baylor plays the 4. At 6-6 maybe he’s a 3 but athletically he couldn’t guard anywhere close to what we’ve had at the 3 spot

You might be right. He scored 64 points in 4 games against P5 opponents last year, which is 16.0 per game, so the offense is there . Where his game needs vast improvement is in the defensive rebounding. He only averaged 4.0 rbs per game in those 4 games he played against P5 opponents, and he only averaged 4.5 rebounds a game overall. His blocks are terribly low. I think with some serious coaching, he could improve. But enough for us to rely on him? Not sure about that.
-
@Jethro he’s just not athletic enough he’s an old school type player, crafty ect. His lefty stroke is money though
-
The Baylor kid is not a big. He’s a wing. He wants an Ochai type role in terms of creative responsibility. I’m not sure how hard we go but I think if we press really hard we get him from what is being whispered around. I think a visit is key in terms of showing how serious we are. Agree there are real concerns with his athleticism.
The other kid mentioned, DJ Burns is not a KU level big.
Hunter is a great player and there is mutual interest. As @kuballin10 said the defensive potential is very good. There would be some offensive concerns but this could be mitigated by having good to great shooters at the other 3 spots.
The staff wants a small guard and a wing. Would be nice if both were starter level players or close to it. We have 2 5* wings coming in but Freshman are never entirely predictable…
-
Got it then Baylor would be great but that’s a definite drop off compared to Och. If the kid can shoot 40% from a higher volume it might work. Replacing ochai though good luck
Hunter it sounds okay but seems like if he was never in for a visit we won’t get him. His offense is solid looking at the last 10 or so games as others have said. He also can beat his man off the dribble to create. Hunter is legit the isu offense was the issue.

Wasn’t in yet* Hunter will visit. There’s no rush on his end.

Baylor is a pasty gangsta. The dude can flat ball. Beautiful shot, and Remy passes. Let’s take Hunter and Baylor, and call it it a day…
-
A strong 6-9 guy with decent post touch might not have an NBA future, but he should still be able to do good work at the P5 level. He will probably only have 4-5 games that he will face someone bigger than 6-9 or 6-10 in college. The college game just isn’t loaded with big guys, and even when you see some of those players, they aren’t necessarily super skilled.
-
I don’t think Burns will come to KU. Not sure he’s a fit here. But I think he could be a P5 player.
Winthrop played 4 P5 teams last year (Vanderbilt, Washington, Washington State and Mississippi State). Burns got into foul trouble in three of those games (fouled out in all three). He did not rebound well overall (only averaged 4.5 boards on the year), and didn’t do much against P5 competition, averaging just 4 rebounds a game in those four games. Averaged 16 points, which is right around his season average of 15.
He shot 60% from the field against P5 (30-50). He has some turnover issues. Ultimately, he’s a flawed but effective player. On the right team, he probably excels (a squad where he is paired with a strong rebounder, and plays at a slow to mid tempo). On the wrong team (single big surrounded by shooters) he probably struggles since he isn’t a great rebounder and tends to turn it over. That makes him a bad fit for KU, but he should find a home somewhere because he can play.
-
@FarmerJayhawk got it thx Farmer
He knows the atmosphere just don’t want to lose him as I think Self would make him on draft boards when it’s all said and done
-
@Jethro “pasty gangsta” I’m rolling. You’re right though and I’d be happy with those two.
It’s whatever Bill wants to do…the man showed he knows who to play just took Remy actually getting healthy and winning us a title. Without Remy we don’t get by creighton or providence or unc. Dajuan’s steal in the title game was my favorite play but dajuan alone without a stud scoring guard at the 1 won’t get it done
-
@justanotherfan I don’t think we even take a look at him, fwiw.
-
Thing is with Hunter, I wouldn’t be OVRELY concerned if he didn’t come in for a visit. I think he could very easily still land here without visit. Thing about it is - -he has had a first hand look at how we run our game , he knows the team from competing against us. Has a feel for how Coach Self Coach’s .
I think most of what else he needs to know could actually be done through Zoom/face call talking to the staff always has time after to really check out the Campus and such .I think if he is serious most of this can take place without visit just meet on face time and such working out details, How Coach would want to use him and such - - expectations and so on - - we shall see
