Worst Regular Season Losses in the Self Era
-
Unironic bump.
-
Nothing will compare to 2013 TCU
-
BUMPTY - - BUMP – BUMP
-
lol TCU game is still the worst by far. Shot .29% from the field against a god awful team.
Naadir was 2-15 from the field.
-
I think the problem is David and Marcus would be good number 2’s at their position’s but as starters not good for us.
-
@hawk4life agree about Dave. Marcus was one of the reasons we stayed in the game yesterday, I thought.
-
Marcus is so poor offensively for being the main ball handler. We’ve just been conditioned to think anything above awful is Marcus playing good.
Marcus took 8 shots at the rim yesterday but didn’t draw any contact to shoot a single free throw. He only had 6 points. Four assists for your starting PG who can’t really score is also pretty sad as well.
There is a spot for a Marcus Garrett on a team that can score 4 on 5. This team is not capable of that.
I would still play Harris more. He is the only guy capable of taking his man off the dribble and seeing the open man.

Again your still playing 4 on 5 with Harris out there - - No Advantage at all

Dont get me wrong I like a lot of Marcus’s game but I’m not sure he really does anything to create for others and I think we can all agree not much of a shooter. Kind of a bad combo for a point guard

before I say what I’m gonna say not bagging on anyone or being a smart so don’t take this wrong. But concerning your statement talking about not creating for others - I just have to say AGAIN - -he has a 3-1 turnover to assist ration which is leading the tam - -and as we all know an assists is a direct pass from one ot another that leads to scores. - -so I have to say with him being the leader in this - - umm yes he does do things to help/create for others.
That’s a 3-1 ratio that he is successful on - question is how many other passes he makes to others whee they don’t convert. - -His assist ratio could/would be higher if the other players would finish.
-
Marcus isn’t the same player he was last year. The people that were concerned about him being the primary pg were right.
-
@jayballer67 Ya I see the stat and he is not all to blame, but when i watch i just don’t see it. Love his defense and he is strong with the ball. I just don’t think he is a great creator or scorer and that’s a problem for us.

I don’t know , all I know he can only do so much he does so much in so many ways can’t leave him off the floor. - -He can only be responsible for getting them the ball – it’s up to them to finish
-
I agree he is our best option. We’ve had some really good pg’s so maybe I’m holding him to unfair expectations, either way this loss wasn’t just on him you’re right about that. Side note how much would Jeremiah Robinson Earl help this team, that recruitment really hurt. We’ll be alright though.
-
@hawk4life JRE doesn’t change much with this team specifically. His skill set doesn’t really address the glaring weakness in the paint for KU. He’s a bad outside shooter (32%), a terrible rebounder (sub 14%), and average at best defender on his best night.
The answer for the Marcus Garrett issue is, and I can’t believe I’m about to type this, Garrett needs to shoot more 3’s. He’s making 40% from 3 this year, but only taking 2 per game on average. That’s how Garrett gets himself easier shots is by taking more 3’s and forcing defenses to respect that shot or let him beat teams from deep and open stuff up for others.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Unfortunately, I don’t think he would be a 40% three point shooter if he took more 3’s. He’s taking wide open set 3’s when they give that to him. But I’d like to see. Couldn’t hurt.
If he can hit 3’s off ball, it makes it way easier to run him with Harris. And I like that a lot.
-
Concerned that Garrett may not play tomorrow due to the elbow he took to the head…
-
@BeddieKU23 Rumblings? Edit: NVM seeing it now UGH.

Marcus has become EJ, version 2. It isn’t fair to either of these players to expect them to be PGs when they had never been developed as D1 PGs. It’s the most-demanding job on the team, like a quarterback. In fact, think of them in the same light. Take a wide receiver and shift to quarterback. Yes… it is that extreme.
I never liked the idea of putting Marcus at PG and I think it hurts his chances at pro ball later… just as it did for EJ.
I’m really not liking how some players have to “take one for the team” and potentially lower their future careers in basketball. Marcus was in a groove at the two… and provided some help at other positions. Putting him at point has been a monster burden. Every aspect of his game has diminished.
As painful as the move may be… I would still… today… move him to the two and start Harris at point. In the brief time he has played, he has created far more offense with other players than Marcus and even Self admits the ball moves better.
The other problem we have… is we need a leader. We need someone to step up and get the troops excited to play every game. That was apparent in our loss to Texas. And notice… when we started to really collapse, there was no one who stepped up and clapped and yelled and brought needed cheerleading energy. That was mentioned on KUSports.com, and rightly so.
I still see very large potential with this team… but some things have to change to get there.

Will we even beat ISU and KSU?
-
lol
-
Idk could KU beat Hays??

Time to fire this up again I fear.

This thread is just free money, I’ll try not to abuse my powers with it.
-
Gradey might prevent needing this thread this year!
-
Imagine coming back from your self imposed 4 game suspension and the 1st game you Coach in is in the Bahamas - boy that would be rough huh? lol - -Suspended for 4 games come back an spend almost a week in Bahamas lol
-
Getting smoked by a mediocre OU team at home. YIKES!
-
-
Ima gonna need ta recharge my defibrillator. Again.
-
@approxinfinity lol, “This is the big one Elizabeth, I’m coming”
-
@StLJhawk Ah, another false alarm. Just indigestion.
-
All we needed was 5 minutes of keeping our heads up and hustling to blow past them.
For whatever reason our heads were hanging low until the end. Bad body language. It was really bad during that period where we didn’t score field goals.
It didn’t have to send us all into cardiac arrest if they would have just figured out to lift their heads earlier than the final 5 minutes! lol
There are lessons to be learned here and I think we have the perfect professor to teach them!
-
@drgnslayr There was a time where I worried that maybe this game could be used as a blueprint for other squads but I think you are right. It was all about KU’s energy. As soon as our D applied real pressure, they broke.
-
It helped when 2 of their guys shot 3’s with a lot of time on the clock!
-
Yeah they didn’t have good shot discipline there late but I recall them being good looks they didn’t make.
Thankfully they couldn’t make 3’s or our matador offense to shoot FT’s wouldn’t have worked
-
@Crimsonorblue22 and that 4 of their 5 starters got into foul trouble

Aggressive defense by the opposition appears to throw KU off its own game. It’s been a common thread in the last 3 games. The guys will see a lot more of it.
-
@Gorilla72 My concern was that Huggy would get ahold of this tape and the next meeting with WVU would put someone in the hospital.
-
@BeddieKU23 the clock was their friend! To bad, he liked us better!
-
When our energy turned up the last 5 minutes it broke their comfort zone that they had the entire game. Then they made mistakes leading to bad shots early in the clock and TOs.
We started to even put a tiny pressure on them in the back court. Makes me think we need to work harder on a full court press… it puts pressure to get them out of their comfort zone and it gets our guys juiced up!
One of the coolest aspects of basketball is watching the momentum shift!
-
@drgnslayr self has teased a full Court press a few times. Wonder if he’s saving it like the daunted triangle and 2.
-
Not watched this yet. Not sure I want too!!
-
@Gorilla72 well played with the reverse jinx
-
@Kubie Honestly, other than not hitting a shot for 12 minutes in the second half, it wasn’t that bad. If you bother to watch the entire game, look for any cheap fouls called on OU. I don’t remember any. They benefited from a couple blown out of bounds calls though.

Their gameplan was to foul constantly and dare the refs to call it, and then you have people on twitter complaining about the fouls called.
-
Not smart given the memo that went around to the Big-12 coaches about cracking down on physical play. KU also did a good job of forcing OU to foul them.
-
@BeddieKU23 KJ especially is so aggressive on drives and attacking the hoop it’s either foul him or get dunked on. Feels like Jalen drives hard to but doesn’t seem to get many calls.
