RE: For @RockchalkinTexas
I wasn’t expecting to well up in tears for someone I hadn’t personally met, but I did. I’ve been to four funerals of friends and family this year and was able to stay composed, but this hit me harder than expected. @RockChalkinTexas apparently holds a special place in my heart. I enjoy my bucketteers; don’t any of you dare leave!
Everyone stay safe and healthy as possible this holiday season!!!

RE: What is the worst that could happen?
Worst case scenario- KU in line for the number one overall seed, plays no games due to a pandemic. Leaving nothing but what if’s for all.
-
RE: Looks like Oubre should have stayed another year..
@BeddieKU23 Yes, Kelly should’ve stayed another year, but I’m still upset that Paul Pierce left early.
-
RE: DeSousa
I love that Bill Self is being blamed for tuning out a roster devoid of post talent and yet his team is playing the best basketball in the nation, undefeated, and ranked #2.
The warts will show, but Bill is doing a masterful job once again.

RE: Marcus Adams
Wow. Hope he figures life out quickly. He’s blowing a couple once in a lifetime opportunities.

RE: Chiefs
As a Chiefs fan, Mahomes is payback for watching other teams do that to our D for years.

Happy anniversary!
Just realized Buckets turned 10 years old last October!!! Thanks to all who have helped make this site entertaining!

RE: ISU Loss: The Good, The Bad, And The ... Positive
Win at all costs and the fans cry about not looking to the future. Sit Cliff and lose tonight with an eye on the future and fans cry. It’a a good thing KU basketball coach isn’t an elected position. The man has done nothing but win games at a historic rate. KU is 14-3 with a freshman and sophomore dominated line-up in what has been the hardest schedule in the nation. I’m estatic with the win loss record, but think there is much room for improvement in play. That’s what has me excited, KU will be better in March and even better next year.
If Bill manages to win the conference title this year it will be quite the feat with 8 teams in a 10 team conference having been ranked in the top 25. That means 8 teams have been rated in the top 7% of all college basketball. KU will have to earn this championship!

RE: Doke
5th year Ochai is more valuable than freshman Ochai will be. This team needs to figure its own problems out. There is no savior in waiting.

RE: Just Beat the TCU Horned Lizards, Please
Sorry folks. It turns out my viewership is the glue that holds the team together. Won’t miss another game.

RE: 2024 NFL Offseason - FAs, Trades, Draft
I happen to agree with Harrison - the best thing I’ve ever done is raise a family. My career is helpful in that end. I take pride in being good at what I do, but is not my life’s goal. My career is a means to an end - taking care of my family. That’s how I took his speech. Would I have said it the way he did? no.

RE: MITCHELL BALLOCK - GLAD THAT NORM CAN RECRUIT!
@truehawk93 wow. Too much red bull. I said he will be a four year player and an aboslute stud by his Jr. year (in college). I didn’t say he’d be an all america honoree. Dude, calm down you’ll live longer. It’s ok to fill out the roster with top 50 players to develop and learn the system. It eases the transition from year to year if someone knows the KU way. JoJo wouldn’t have gotten ripped at late night if a Sr. had told him how to have fun without goofing off. I’d like to see 2-3 top 20-50 players every year in addition to 1-2 top 10 talents each year.
Ballock isn’t a program saver. He could be a great glue guy an absolute stud in how he helps the team. I don’t see him as a physical specimen. I see him as a potientally great COLLEGE basketball player. All time great? No. Twelve points a night great? Yes.
Maybe you didn’t understand that my first post was a newspaper article. Not my beliefs. Your reply puts many words in my mouth that have never been spoken or thought. Please refrain from projecting yourself onto me. I’m already pissed as some a-hole shot and killed my 10 pound, 1 week shy of 13 years old, 3 legged, Minature Pincher. Don’t make me uncork on off comments in a place of sancturary.

I’d kick in another $20 for a user block button!

RE: Omaha Mavericks - Monday - 6pm - ESPN 2
It’ll be my boy’s first Allen Fieldhouse experience today. I fully expect a 20 pt. blowout and a lot of fun to be had by the ‘Hawks.

RE: Vick Appreciation Thread
3 straight wins against UK, Duke, and UNC and 2 straight over Sparty is pretty nice! Another chance to pick up a win on Kentucky this season too, but the game I want to see is KU - Duke for the ‘ship.

RE: Other Games Tonight
4 top ten recruits in one class and no final four…choke job deluxe. Nike wants their money back

RE: F-bomb Roy....
@Kcmatt7 So you’re saying Self winning the Big12 after replacing all 5 starters twice is pretty freaking amazing?!?
-
RE: Annual KU Buckets awards
@tis4tim The portal and Mitch playing 5 seasons. Lightfoot did average around 34 wins per season though. Don’t know how we’ll replace him.
-
RE: Who would ever replace Self?
The Bill Self clone they’ve been growing at KU med.
-
RE: Funniest KStater ever?
ksu fans have a huge inferiority complex. Even in losses they must compare themselves to KU. While playing random other teams they chant about KU. KU owns so much headspace of the ksu fans it’s ridiculous.

RE: Other bball games
Hurley is a good coach, but his face is very punchable - it’s the arrogant, smug way he carries himself I suppose.

RE: AFC championship
Scared me silly to see Skyy Moore returning that punt. Wowza did he perform though.

RE: Sportsmanship and life
@approxinfinity If it makes you feel any better, my oldest boy is extremely polite always says please and thank you always puts others first. And if you don’t respect him his three-year-old little brother will punch you in the face. LOL

Robbed from another site -
My friend just won a pair of tickets to the Super Bowl. Seats are on the 40-yard line, lower bowl. The problem is that his wedding is on Sunday.
If you’re interested in taking his place, here are the details: It is at Cure of Ars Catholic Church on Mission Road in Leawood at 300pm. Her name is Sophie and she is 5’6" and around 105 pounds. She loves dogs and camping.

RE: DEVON DOTSON WHOSE COMMITMENT TO KANSAS WE NEVER DOUBTED
Ahh, if he comes to Lawrence I’ll welcome him with open arms. If he goes elsewhere I’ll wish him the best and enjoy watching him lose to KU if/when they play.

RE: Transfer Rumblings
@madmax said in Transfer Rumblings:
@TYOHawk KJ should have been playing the 4 spot last year, and could eventually evolve into a 3 and D role towards the end of his career here. We saw glimpses of his shooting ability last year. He was deadly 8 feet and in and showed range out to 15 feet. He will continue to develop those aspects of his game when other players finally develop enough to man the 5 spot consistently.
I spoke briefly with KJ last week (barnstorming tour out west, I have no connections) . He said he is working on expanding his range to 15 foot. (He specifically said he’s not really adding a 3 ball, laughed it off). Nice young man. I look forward to seeing his hard work show up on the court.

BIFM: What it is and Frank talk
BIFM is a reference to a Redhead song in which the rapper spits “Bitch, I’m Frank Mason!” Around 30 times in about a minute and a half. Link to song, NSFW
As a further part of his legacy the players shorts all look very similar so the equipment managers label the tags with the players name. There is only one exception, one tag reads BIFM.

RE: IIarp decision very soon I read and some very interesting info found
@Kcmatt7 It feels like it happens 15 years ago

RE: Frank's Legacy
@JayHawkFanToo Chalmers played the 1, but it worked better with RussRob leading the way. So he was used mainly as a combo 2. Similar to how many would like to see Graham take over the ball handling to allow Mason more freedom to score.
Since the question is best guards (1-3) at KU I’d rate the ones I watched since '89 as follows:
Best pure point: Jacque Vaughn
Most active guard: Jerrod Haase
Best pure scorer: Paul Pierce
Most athletic wing/guard: Andrew Wiggins
Highest flying guard: Kenny Gregory
Best stealing tandem: Mario Chalmers and Russel Robinson
Best at making layups: Travis Releford
Best all around point guard: Tyshawn Taylor
Easiest to forget drafted point guard: Ryan Robertson
Most prolific scoring point guard: Frank Mason
Mr. Clutch: Sherron Collins
Best wing defender: Brandon Rush
Best clown killer: Ellijah Johnson
Highest flying with a pretty stroke: Ben McLemore
Best glue player ever: Josh Jackson (I’m not even sorry Morningstar)
Scrappiest guard: Rex Walters
Most hard nosed guard: Adonis Jordan
Best slasher: Keith Landford
Best mustache: TJ Whatley
Best facilitator Aaron Miles
Best Free throw stroke: Brannen Greene
Longest shorts relative to legs: Calvin Rayford
++edited for exclusions++
So many good guards all great at something different. No two alike.

RE: How was Sam I Am
Better than I expected, but no savior. He’s extremely athletic and it shows. He needs lots of work, but he offers more on offense than Garrett.

RE: The Octagon of ? - Big Monday - 8 pm - ESPN
Every good rivalry has a good villain. Bruce qualifies. Ass clown deluxe.

RE: Is the Phog losing its Phogginess?
If KU really wants more racous fans just lower ticket prices to encourage a different set of fans in. We may get to see someone enjoy the game instead of worrying about the fleecing they took to get into the door.
Personally I think it’s still great in person. TV has never done it justice. Allen Fieldhouse is the best basketball arena and experience bar none, but I’m sure it could be even better.

RE: WVU 2 FTAs, KU 35 FTAs: Should the Referees Be Brought in for Questioning by the FBI that Is Reputedly Looking into other Bizarre Activities in D1, or Is KU's New Two Free Throw Defense Just that Great of an Innovation?
@jaybate-1.0 WVU really had 5 free throw opportunities if that makes you feel better.
1 -Konate’s and one.
2,3 -Carter Misses front end of one and one
4,5 - West? misses front end of one and one, but also commits a lane violation so the throw doesn’t count as a miss.

RE: GAMEDAY CHAT!
@mayjay Working. I prefer the later games for selfish reasons. On the occasion that my beloved Jayhawks should lose I no longer watch the tournament, so if they play later I can enjoy more games. My viewing season lasts as long as KU’s season. I derive no joy in college basketball if KU isn’t still alive in the tournament.
So go Jayhawks!

RE: KU vs Seton Hall Game Chat..
One of my favorite moments from the game was directly after Delgado scored. Delgado turned after making a basket and should’ve been celebrating, but saw Dok siting at the scorers table and his face went sour. Just seeing Dok ready to check in stressed him out. That is fantastic!

RE: Big 12 ? Big East challenge
justanotherfan said:
At this point, I’d be in favor of the Big 12 doing a challenge with the Big East and the Pac-12 as well as the SEC. The Big 12 needs as many revenue producing opportunities as possible for the non-revenue schools (K-State, Iowa State, West Virginia). Give those schools a way to schedule another nationally televised non-con game.
Heck, I’d like to see the Big 12 do a football challenge as well for the same reason. The conference has to stay economically viable.
I don’t know about a Pac12 challenge…Walton…’nuff said.

RE: "Rivalry Renewed" KU-MU Border War
@mayjay “There isn’t another way to put it, I just hate those guys,” he said. "I hate everything about Mizzou. There is a kid from Chicago that is going to Mizzou, I know him real well. I just told him I can’t support him. I just hate them, I hate everything about them. I hate going there, I hate them coming here. I feel like K-State was a rivalry, but it was more of a respected rivalry. I just don’t like (Mizzou).”

RE: Best offense in NCAA basketball
Here’s a teaser.
Start with the fact that Udoka Azubuike made 77 percent of his 2s last season while carrying a normal offensive workload. Should Azubuike develop a jump shot, it would be great for him and fantastic for Kansas fans and the NBA personnel who will be evaluating him this season. But we shouldn’t understate the damage that a 77 percent 2-point shooter does to an opposing defense. Azubuike is getting as many points per 100 attempts as would a 51 percent 3-point shooter. That’ll do.
Better still, Azubuike will have a ton of help. Freshman Quentin Grimes is projected as a 2019 lottery pick, and Memphis transfer Dedric Lawson already has 65 Division I games under his belt wherein he was his team’s featured scorer (and he still seems to possess untapped 3-point potential). Lagerald Vick hit 52 percent of his 2s and 43 percent of his 3s for KU in the 2018 NCAA tournament. California transfer Charlie Moore is a plug-and-play point guard, unless freshman Devon Dotson fills that need for Bill Self.
If the Jayhawks stay healthy and play to their potential (and especially if Azubuike or Marcus Garrett or both improve at the free throw line), this should be the best offense in the nation in 2019.
