2024 Recruiting

  • that switch gif being used by trilly doesn’t make sense for just some “visits”

  • The whole Coaching staff was out Monday to see Flagg- - & McNeeley & Queen. Not sure why with Queen sounds like were not really in that , but it’s ok. - -Would be nice id w could pull McNeeley from under Indiana return the favor for them stealing one of ours.- - -Anyways they seen all three & then seen Flagg by himself later in the day - -Coach is all in for sure

Nobody has a clue. Just people throwing out every single idea possible to see what sticks.

  • hmmm, is that smoke I see over thee - on the horizon? - -is it Flagg smoke ? - or is it Harper Smoke ?- - usually when there is smoke - -there’s FIRE

  • Rakease Passmore will visit KU. Hasn’t been reported yet.

  • @BShark Really like him. Talk about recruiting athletes…

  • @BShark

Oh wow didn’t expect us to be getting in here. Hopefully not too late…

  • @BeddieKU23 said in 2024 Recruiting:

Arkansas leads, LSU 2nd. Straight from the source. Added that if KU gives him a commit-able offer for 24 (he had one for 23, but was unable to reclass) it would be “hard to say no” so things could change quickly and we all know KU usually puts on a great visit.

  • Made Emmanuel Stephens cut to 5. Arizona, Miami, Michigan and USC are the other 4. Not an elite prospect so with this list he clearly doesn’t care much about early PT I’d think.

  • Made Akier Ali cut of 5 , 6’8 Wing from IMG Academy Fl :- - Kentucky , Arkansas , – Arizona St , - Alabama , - -& KU

  • @BShark

Reminds me a bit of MJ Rice. Some Och vibes. Heck of an athlete

  • @BeddieKU23 forgot, where did MJ go?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 NC State (hometown area of Durham, where he should have probably gone in the first place)

  • @DanR

Good thing you knew, I had forgot he landed there

  • Made final 5 for Amier Ali , - - - 6’8 wing - -other Schools : - -Ala - - Ark - - ASU - -UK - - & KU. - in process of sitting up visits

  • Liam McNeeley is deciding between indiana and Kansas, he canceled his Texas visit.

  • Deciding between Indiana and Indiana tbh

  • @BShark said in 2024 Recruiting:

Deciding between Indiana and Indiana tbh

Yeah kind of annoying to be used as window dressing for this

  • Bethea picked Miami yesterday. Wrong choice but to each their own

  • Portal is the best recruiting tool now.

  • Maybe but getting good recruits as freshmen is still a good tool and think the best approach is to balance that with the portal. Yes, there is a risk of them leaving, but feel like in general a freshman recruit has a better change of eventually breaking the starting lineup than if we have a 10th man who was a transfer. If they see the path for them, they will probably stick around a place like KU and if they don’t, then it is not a loss if they leave. Udeh didn’t leave until he was going to be burried on the bench behind Hunter and we aren’t going to get a transfer of the caliber every year

  • @MR11 That irritates me about Udeh. I guess the proposition of having to earn minutes ran him off. And if that little bit of adversity was all it took to run him off, I massively misread the guy (thus the irritation at myself). I genuinely thought he would be a player you could build a team around by his Jr. year. If Hunter is really all it took to run him off, I doubt he reaches the potential I thought he had. -maybe that’s just my bad talent evaluation, but I really though Udeh was going to be great.

  • @MR11 I think it is best to go after freshmen in 40-100 ranking range as they will be more patient to learn and develop.

Higher ranking kids are looking for instant gratification, which is totally acceptable for their viewpoint but difficult to achieve at KU under Bill Self unless you are in Joel/Wiggins/Rush category.

  • @dylans

Agree about Udeh. Think he has a handler that made this difficult to overcome when it came to the Hunter situation. It’s rampant across the nation as far as running from adversity goes and the rules allow you a 1 time free run. I find it difficult myself to root for him now that he went to a conference foe and we may play against him 2 plus times over the next several years. Same for Bryce Thompson who left for Oklahoma St it’s just weird. I wish them the best but that’s about it.

  • If anyone of you were in position for a huge promotion that you felt you had worked hard for and the company went with an outside hire instead you’d be updating your resume and you know it. I guarantee you wouldn’t be like “you know what, just a little bit of adversity I need to overcome.”

I really don’t blame Udeh at all. The reality is that there were going to be 10 minutes to compete for at KU (potentially for two years). Or 25-30 somewhere else. I do agree it is unfortunate he stayed in conference because we know what he could become. Everyone is only mad because he’s got the potential to be really, really good lol.

The transfer portal is a huge reason that KU Football is where it is at today. Do we think our transfers are a big bunch of wusses who ran away from adversity? Or did they not feel like their previous school was giving them the best opportunity to showcase their talents? Why would we want Gage Keys or Craig Young? Total losers who ran away from adversity. /s

  • @Kcmatt7

No doubt it’s a business-like deal here. I don’t blame Udeh at all, the rules allow him to do what he did, but it doesn’t stop me from being disappointed in the outcome even if Hunter makes us a better team this year. My disappointment probably is an emotional attachment to watching guys grow and develop at KU, rooting them along through the years (and that’s really becoming an extinct thing to look forward to), only to see them leave at the speed of light when something didn’t go their way. It’s hard to adjust sometimes to the new way when your fandom is partly centered upon the kids themselves.

It’s not like KU didn’t need one of Udeh/Zuby still but it is what it is.

  • @BeddieKU23 I definitely agree with being disappointed we couldn’t convince one of them to stay and see the long-term opportunity. I really figured we’d convince one of them to stay under the idea that they’d be competing for a Natty and NIL money would be there.

i really didn’t blame Udeh or Zuby actually either one for going through the portal. Hated to lose them. Your right really wish he would of went to Duke instead on in Conference. - -Hope nothing but the best for him, hope he does well - yet were gonna be fine

Not sure about your company, but mine did hire new people every year in my position. - I outworked them all and run the company now. You have stated time and again you do not like adversity to overcome. Switch jobs when it gets hard - “keeping you nose to the grindstone is a republican lie” KCMatt. I would not hire you, but I understand where you come from.

  • @dylans I doubt you could afford me anyways.

  • Does anyone like adversity? I’m imagining someone at work and along comes adversity and they’re like heck yeah here we go some adversity this is awesome

  • @FarmerJayhawk Those who believe strongly enough in the philosophical views of Fyodor Dostoyevsky could be said to “like adversity.” However, this all comes down to which specific emotions that one registers qualify as “liking” something.

  • Adversity in pay per performance jobs means someone can get a bonus by reducing labor cost and do nothing themselves while everyone else has to make it work. It’s not labor versus management but labor versus stockholders.

  • Bill got his Juan replacement. Gets a year to understudy too. Good stuff.

  • just seen this on 247 - - must of just committed tonight ? - - Awesome – -# 27 ranked in the class

  • Get me Passmore next and I’m walking on the moon.

It also very much depends on priorities. Most companies have a much larger hiring budget than retention budget so it’s frequently in a worker’s best interest to keep job hopping to bump up their salary. I also realize that’s not the mindset a lot of boomers and older Gen X’ers have, but that’s how the modern corporate American workplace has evolved over the past couple of generations with younger Gen X’ers, Millennials, and Zoomers. There’s positives and negatives to each of those mentalities.

I’d pass out. Dream fits for Bill.

  • good size for PG, needs to work on his 3 pt shot looks like though 31.4 % - -but can score on three levels good to see

  • Fantastic pivot from the staff

  • Nice, I’m a big fan of 6’4’’ point guards

  • @TYOHawk also don’t write off Flagg

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in 2024 Recruiting:

Honestly think he would be the biggest get for us since Wiggs if possible.

  • Film is nice, perimeter shot is a weakness it looks that needs improvement. Great size for the backcourt, will be interesting to see how this one develops. Looks like an ideal 2 way player that Bill covets.

Very surprised he popped after the visit but good job by the staff to pivot fast after the Bethea mess.

Swing for Flagg and if you get lucky there you landed the biggest fish in HS recruiting in many years.

  • @dylans That comparison is absurd considering Udeh’s career only had 3 years left, and potentially he would have had only one to get lots of playing time. I am pretty sure yours has lasted longer, and I doubt you ever had to outwork the very best candidate in the country. (But definitely congrats for making it to the top!)

  • @FarmerJayhawk So, I wonder if the kids at Branson Academy go to the septugenarian country music performances?

  • @mayjay I hear the a cappella group Six and the roller coasters at Silver Dollar City are real hits with the youths

  • @Kcmatt7 said in 2024 Recruiting:

Let me guess. I’m assuming you’re fairly young - less than 35 and recently married. You switched jobs a few years back, which implies you’re not a legacy so name recognition is out for pay bumps. Also you had to switch jobs to get a pay raise so you’re not at the top of the pay scale. Average accountant salaries are about 55k, I assume you’re good at your job and earn 6 figures. You work for someone; not self employed , but that caps Income. Your moniker implies you may be in the KC Kansas area, if so less than 8% of households make 200k per year. Given your stance on overcoming adversity I figure you’d last until it got hot in July at best. 3-4 months pay at 16k per month I can handle. But you’d have to be in the top 5% performance wise to command that level of pay. Let me know if you’re interested and qualified.

  • Ok, so I’m asking this question and not trying to be a smart ass or anything close BUT just a serious innocent question ? opinion. So don’t take it the wrong way, Just really curious Does anyone REALLY think we have a legit shot at Cooper Flagg ? - -Or is his visit just a courtesy visit and he just taking using up his free official visits?

Like I said I would love to have Flagg for sure, I just really think though we have about of much chance of him coming here as me becoming the Pope tomorrow. - -just fel he is a Duke lock, Duke has been his School that he has wanted forever, just can’t see why he would change his mind

Somebody change my mind , reasons why he chooses us intead of the School h has wanted or like forever.
