@BShark That really sucks but seems to be the writing on the wall
Figures regarding lj
Definitely not shay just read enough message board fodder since college - only so much “inside” guys can say. No one truly knows until the kid actually commits.
KU could easily pay the rumored amount for Cryer so I assume there are fit issues. Plus not everything is about money.
-
@BShark Yeah he isn’t coming here even if we are offering the most
Houston to be this years Sasser Or ksu (sounds like not going to happen as I’d guessed with zero inside info)

The fit issues I assume are pretty much what I described above along with him supposedly wanting to be a lead guard which isn’t happening over Harris. There are better fits than Cryer out there for what KU needs in a 2 guard.

How do you feel about Kalib Boone? @BeddieKU23 @Kcmatt7 @FarmerJayhawk @kuballin10 @TYOHawk
-
Certainly not our first option at this point.
I could make a case he was underutilized and underplayed in Boynton’s system. Only averaged 16 mpg his career there.
His good days are really good. Seems to have always had trouble being consistent (again was that the system, PT)
Efficient, can block shots, make FT’s. Not a perimeter shooter so obviously we love that.

Yeah definitely on and off. Would hope Bill would unlock him if it happens.
Depends on how quickly he moves, since I don’t see us doing anything until we get an answer from Hunter.
-
Wouldn’t be the worst option in the world. He can score and has plenty of experience in conference.
-
@BeddieKU23 yea it’s fine I guess. Certainly holding out hope for better.
-
If he needs his brother with him again it’s a hard pass for me though. I believe they are visiting UNLV next weekend along with Jalen Hill.
-
I know its early but I still have no idea what we are doing in the Portal.
-
@BeddieKU23 I’m trying so hard to not hit the panic button
-
Same, the worst is talking about all these guys to watch them to go to rivals or conference foes. I swear it’s happening on purpose.
While the portal doesn’t lack options, there’s been very few real top end guys and even fewer can’t miss fits for Self.
Still a good month at least to go. I’m just waiting for the first domino to fall so we can at least be optimistic. The life of a fan…
-
-
@BShark I have to think there is a wing the staff is zeroed in on that they know portals. Otherwise we’d be hearing more on some wings. And they wouldn’t have turned their nose up at Ingram so quickly.
-
@Kcmatt7 Right…

A thought.
You know it’s slim - -really slim probably , realistically BUT Kevin didn’t close the door completely about the chance of possibly returning. - He mentioned he was keeping his options open. It’s NOT beyond the realm of possibility that he could COME BACK is it Probable ? – PROBABLY NOT , but I guess we can never - - say NEVER
-
@Kcmatt7 As far as melting down goes, every single player we have added in the last three cycles that contributed really at all wasn’t added until May or later. Moss, JCL, Remy, Kevin. Joe and Cam were early guys.
-
Not sure if this kid has been mentioned in here or not. Saw it from the other site , poster mentioned that the staff should put feelers out to this guy. Think I might have to agree. Kid’s name is Brice Williams from Charlotte. - -6’7 Guard ( so really nice size ) shot 48 % from the field - - - 43 % from the 3 ( 4.1 attempts per game ) - - -84 % ft - - 5.3 rpg - -and 13.8 ppg - - sounds like he might be a solid get if they would look at him.
-
Generally, the best available players in the portal are going to be the ones that test the NBA waters and decide to return to school. Those kids don’t come available until late. If you look at an NBA draft board, look at the underclassmen in the 75-150 range. That’s where the best crop of transfers will come from and won’t be available until after Combine invites are handed out for those who don’t get an invite and after the Combine for those who do get invites, bit not the feedback they wanted as far as being an NBA level player yet. Those are the names to keep an eye on.
Hunter Dickinson is an exception to this as he is a NPOY candidate in the right system and why it sounds like he’s the only player Self and staff have aggressively pursued so far in the portal.
-
Send to staff 6-7 and can shoot it oh and see 14 seconds in that dunk….uconn took a guy from ecu and move up didn’t hurt

My bad just posted this as well - not trying to copy you - you clearly had it first!

Don’t understand why we wouldn’t go after Julian Phillips if he enters the portal. Team desperately needs wing talent and primo spears coming seems like a total waste of a limited scholarship if cuffe doesn’t leave

Well we both agree that this kid might be somebody they need to check out

@jayballer67 No clue why they haven’t already. Check every box listed unless someone will throw out some defensive metrics they claim make him look bad.

@BShark Loved the post further down saying KU has the 8th least conference pride. Sure, the team that holds the record for conf champs and set the consecutive champs record has little pride. It’s why we never mention it…
Who is that “Big Game Boomer” clown?

Someone that riles up KU fans for engagement. I blocked him.

@rcjhdraft hey! Sorry it took 4 hours for me to approve your first post. You are the first legit new poster we have had since i instituted the post queue to screen out spammers. Welcome! I will have to figure how we distribute the first post queue approval rights so other people can approve the queue too (its much simpler than deleting users, fwiw guys). Anyway thanks for joining us!

My concerns with Brice Williams are that he’d be the wing version of Yesufu here. He’s not an elite shooter so he’d probably be around 35% from the outside here. The reason I’m using Yesufu as a comparison is because looking at his game logs last season, Williams was very streaky in his scoring and was not a full time starter until the end of the season. He was an average defender at Charlotte which probably translates to below average here.
I think a slightly better version of Yesufu is probably what KU would get with Williams and he’d be soft pass for me. He’s the guy that’d be a plan C or D type player for KU right now.

He has shot the ball really really well. - -48 % from the 2 - - 43 % from the 3 and 84 % ft - not that bad at all. excellent size 6’7 would be a good 2 guard avg 13.8 ppg not that bad

The 43% from 3 was as a sophomore 2 years ago before . This past season, he was 39.5% from 3. There’s also injury concerns with Williams as he missed the entire '21-'22 season due to a knee injury. Self also will not play him at the 2 guard spot at his size, he would be a 3 here. Self is looking for transfers that can come in and start from day 1 and Williams is nice player, but not what Self and KU are looking for or need on the wing right now. If KU was looking for a bench piece to add depth, Williams would be a solid add, but when KU needs a starter who potentially score 15+ ppg at the wing spot, Williams isn’t that player.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I’m with @jayballer67 on this one…tape shows he’s got fame and I think he can play at this level. Maybe not option 1 but the type of player we don’t get because we wait for nba draft dropouts only to see him play well next year at a bigger program
-

I’m fine with not getting Brice Williams because I see too many similarities to Yesufu with him in regards to consistency. Athleticism was never Yesufu’s issue, it was being able to do it consistently and Williams game logs have a lot of similarities to Yesufu’s before he got here.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 that is true I can’t argue that
You were right in Yesufu and I was wrong

Complete chaos
