Isn’t Nelson going G-League?
-
Wonder if Nelson will plan to visit soon? He’s apparently visiting Alabama… I think we would have heard something about him or anyone else setting up a visit by now, or in the next few days… if Self thinks there is a need for a shooting 4, then Self will get someone. If not, then we’re all set. This has been arguably the wildest offseason I’ve ever seen. 8 effing transfers leaving KU- yikes. And next year, the question will be not which of our recruits will leave, but who will stay.

The crazy thing is I think we likely only end up truly missing one of the bigs out of this whole group. I’d lean towards that being Zuby, honestly as I think he will end up a 16ppg guy eventually. I get it though, Self was able to land a star in the portal.

I said before Zuby and Udeh left that I felt Zuby has the higher ceiling long term over Udeh. I think both have a similar ceiling in offense, but I believe Zuby is the better overall defender. Zuby was a significantly better rebounder and actually was a better shot blocker than Udeh.
-
@BShark Zuby would have really thrived as a 4 year guy under Self.
-
I’m so happy for Udeh -couldn’t be better
-
Kentucky is a sewage dump right now , people going insane. – Oscar Gone , Livingston gone , Reeves is gone .- -Oh they will be decent, they still have quality players but Kentucky base feels it’s the end of the world
-
It’s pretty inexplicable that calipari didn’t get a single transfer. Out of those three players, Reeves seemed like the only one with a solid shot of coming back.
-
So - is the consensus here that we are now done adding players despite having one more scholarship ???
Just curious
-
Seth Davis has us as a prohibitive favorite for number 1 now that Kev has come back.

-
Makes sense. Kev should be first team all conference this season. This was bigger then any transfer we got
-
I really don’t think we should be the heavy favorite we are. I just don’t know that we have enough scoring from the perimeter. I think Jackson or Morris could be total studs. So I’m not saying that it is impossible. I just don’t like putting those expectations on either of them.
We need Kev and KJ to really take a step forward this season.
-
Just to curb the enthusiasm a bit, I wonder where UConn was on the 2022-23 preseason ranking?
Oh yeah. Not even on the list. San Diego State was #23.

GRAPEVINE HEARINGS from a former CBB coach.
Oscar was working out here and Calipari showed up to make him an offer to return: https://www.thecarolinafactory.com/
Oscar was offered FOUR MILLION DOLLARS by Calipari and he turned it down.
Seeming like a lot of kids are now determining that Calipari isn’t even worth the money.
-
@BShark If true Oscar should have taken the money. His pro career doesn’t appear that promising. 75th rated prospect. Europe doesn’t pay that well.

Smoke on Chris Johnson not going to KU…
-
The portal thread is BACK
-
Here we go again!
Why does it say “professional athlete” in his Twitter profile? that normal for kids these days?

Dam what - -that would leave us with three Scholis?

LETS GOOOOOOOOO
So seriously he was just going to sit on the bench for a year and transfer out anyway.
-
@FarmerJayhawk So if Chris leaves now we are back in on what another guard?
Should have never stopped recruiting Nelson…….
Bama and Oats might get Nelson and Kaluma which would be salty
***edit - seeing Nelson’s final 4 as the third ranked transfer is stupid. We clearly had an in and there was mutual interest but Bill didn’t wanna hurt any one’s feelings. Just dumb

@kuballin10 I wonder if we try to get back in for Zyon Pullin

That’s when the chatter first really started. Slater plugged in as always.
-
We need another body or two. I’m weary of only having 10 scholarship guys. As far as Chris it doesn’t bother me. Only guys in the recruiting class you had to keep was Marcus and Elmarko…,
-
crazy , crazy off season
-
Johnson leaving is a blessing
-
-
Johnson has asked to be released. Now let’s get a dude
-
I’d even take another freshman that understands if you can only score 7 ppg in high school that you may need to ride the bench for a year or two
-
Why is it a blessing that he’s leaving? Love to know more about him
-
@Bosthawk he just really isn’t very good. Cannot shoot. Also some stuff with his attitude. Not that dominating prep ball is a requirement to be good at the D1 level, but he sucked at prep school this year.
-

This is kinda like saying Bill Self is somewhat of a good basketball coach.
-
What an odd commitment from the start. If he really had a crap attitude from the get go, why did Self recruit him? Odd. From his scouting report: Overall, he is confident, physical, and plays with an edge, that can be either a competitive advantage or disadvantage depending on how it is impacting him.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk Athletically there is a lot to like. I actually thought that attitude would serve him well as a freshman because it would make him be aggressive. But he really just didn’t get better his senior year. If I were a betting man we don’t even see him finish his collegiate career at a P5 school.
-
More Kentucky fun. They are likely to get Jordan Burks. Per an assistant coach that briefly looked at him before “he’s dog shit”.
-
Thumbs up to the intel @BShark not to a coach calling a kid “dog shit”. Brutal.

Yeah, lot of coaches will be pretty candid off the record but that is a rough comment.

Nike and Wes aren’t carrying Cal anymore. I waited years for this day but it’s finally here.

World Wide Wes hasn’t been affiliated with Calipari in years. He had to give that awhile ago when he became a certified NBA player agent and he’s worked in tge Knicks front office for several years now.

He still has pull especially with Nike and top tier talent on the east coast.
-
Just saw from Zagsblog, that well they gave two different numbers but they said that the NBA reported that 158 players had withdrawn their name for consideration from the draft.- -Still some pretty quality guys - -wondre if it’s to late to try to get that really good four or tha productive wing ?
-
In an interview today in Topeka with KSTN: “Still recruiting… We’re still dabbling and looking into different situations,” Self said. “I thought we were probably going to be done unless something just fell in our lap. And now after we had someone say that they didn’t want to come now, now we’re in a situation where I think we can certainly give another scholarship out.”

Yes, he still has influence, but he’s not using it in the way that he used to because that would cost him his job with the Knicks and cost him certification as an agent.
-
I’d be surprised if anything broke before someone actually entered the portal. This year has been instructive.
Also, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Kevin McCarthy are bumping uggs. Do with this what you will.
