I’m still confident we will get someone better
Possibly soon but there is a real hurdle to clear so we will see.
Well I used to freak out and every time Self finds a way so I’m trying to stay the course.
Ingram wasn’t on my must have list. I would have talked myself to liking him if we did get him. Weirdly Hunter isn’t what I want either but if we do get him, I’ll be ecstatic.
-
I have to think there will be some very good players available after the NBA tryouts.
-
@NormRoberts This team isn’t complete yet settle down norm. Wasting your time rating an unfinished picasso
-
More guys will enter after the draft combine and etc. I know it’s hard not to be reactionary especially after the Ingram news but it’s probably best to stay calm.

Dickinson is still the biggest priority for KU and the centerpiece of the transfer class. If KU misses on him, then there could be some legitimate concern about where the scoring comes from next season.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 We need Hunter to replace JW’s scoring and rebounding.
Dickinson, Tyson, Timberlake and whoever is behind door 4 is 1 seed.
Without Dickinson we need two more scoring wings to pair with Timberlake. Whether Tyson, Battle from Mont st or some late draft dropout it doesn’t matter who just get some dudes.
Juan, kj, udeh, Zuby, Elmarko, Adam’s and Timberlake are a solid core

Tyson and Battle aren’t locks to be big time scorers here and would still leave KU significantly undersized at pretty much every position, especially if KJ still started at the 5 next season and even at the 4 he’d be a little undersized. Without Dickinson, there’s a legitimate chance KU’s leading scorer is somewhere around 13 ppg and KU would need to have 4 guys in that 10-13 ppg range along with 3 or 4 more guys in the 6-9 ppg range.
-
Anyone have info on Dickinson’s visit?

I’m not super concerned at this point if we land HD. I still think there is decent chance Kevin returns after his NBA workouts. I think the chance of him get drafted is pretty fat personally. With him returning, HD coming and the incoming freshman we will be okay. Worried about outside shooting at that point but that’s why we got Timberlake.
-
no smoke about it but today is the last day for Holmes to decide if he wants to go to the draft or not. I’d assume he declares at least for feedback
-
I did not realize this.
Earlier this spring, the NCAA sent out a memo regarding two-time transfers who aren’t classified as graduate transfers. In the past, undergraduate student-athletes could apply for waivers to be eligible immediately, citing any number of reasons: a coaching change, a coach “running them off” in favor of a better player, or something else. The new memo clearly states those reasons aren’t going to be approved anymore. Essentially, the only acceptable reasons for undergraduate waivers will now be issues relating to mental health, physical well-being, discrimination and learning disabilities.

Is Emoni Bates going to stay in the draft? He’s an interesting player with a ton of untapped potential, but will his potential ever materialize?

He did just turn 19 so he’s got lots of time to go.
-
Weird fact, Tyson of Texas Tech, his brother is in the portal for Football.
-
Primo Spears is set to begin his official visit to KU tomorrow.
Would KU take a commitment from him right now if he wanted to commit after this visit?
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I think so? But man, that’s tough. You don’t want to get down the road and find out he has to redshirt given the scholarship crunch.

I would hope we could hold off and try to land someon else -shoots the ball better, Spears shootin % not great
-
Yeah it’s still interesting to me if he makes the visit or not. If he does, who knows…
-
Primo Spears is not getting a waiver and he sucks. If they take him after taking Timberlake WOOF

Hear me out, swap him for CJ.
Also, he’s a better version of Joe.

I will not understand this take if it happens, at all, even in the season.
-
So if we take Spears have we gotten to the point we taking people just to be taking bodies ? We don’t need to be taking people coming through the portal just to have them red shirt. - -We need quality players NOW - that can help us now -for this upcoming Season. If Spears comes in takes up a Scholi that we need for players to help now - He IS NOT doin us any good by red shirting.
You put this with guys coming in through the portal that may have to sit a year because of transferring twice & redshirting - you put that on top NOW we hear that we guess CJ is no good ? -Holy shit batman - -WTH is going on ? Please don’t try to color me as some pessimistic fool I KNOW there are others that feel the same way - starting to look like a cluster F - - -
-
Well just saw this off the Maryland board, really don’t know what to think , probably fake. A poster - posted 19 hours ago that accord to Jeff Erman who is a Maryland Publisher said that Hunter was all but a done deal to KU - had the little crystal ball up showing Maryland at 67 % - then showed KU and said committed . - All but done deal as should be made known public soon.
Some others believed it- - som othes just thought it was someone trolling - -who knows. Would be Sweeeet if that were true through
-
Mercy sure would be great to get Hunter , reading Kentucky Boards also and there are fans there that still believe Hunter lands at KU - -also stating that KU fans feel VERY confident we lnd Hunter. I’ve haven’t been able to find anywhere where that KU fans werre posting that we are THAT CONFIDENT about landing Hunter. , unless it’s VIP. p /i’ve seen other KU fans posting how we would love to have him but not that we were feeling VERY CONFIDENT

Swap yet primo can’t play this year right? I get swapping them on the bases of playing next year but not sold on it. Rather use a scholly for a guy who can play now.
Tea leaves seem to signal cj may decommit.
-
@kuballin10 Maybe he gets a waiver, you’d have to think the staff feels they have a shot IF they take him. I still do not know.
-
@BShark If he got a waiver and we get 4 dudes - primo Off bench would be solid
Hunter, Tyson, Timberlake and Primo

that is exactly what I was saying. I’m not wasting a Scholi on a guy coming through the portal who very well might not even be eligble this year. - It’s this upcoming season we need to replace important pieces . Not using the Scoli on a guy that’s really not even that good and he sits on top of that - - NO THANKS
-
@jayballer67 that’s the risk and why I’m hesitant for thinking the waiver works
Maybe coaching change he has an out?
-
Every player in the portal will have question marks. If not they’d be pros or not in the portal. So you have to take that into account when evaluating the portal. Spears isn’t great, but he’s a super durable veteran that can get you a bucket and run the point. That’s a need. Especially if you consider Timberlake more of a wing, which I think he is. And it’s hard to find guards who will come in and play with Juan because most want to be on the ball all the time and that’s just not going to happen until Juan rides off into the sunset.
Tyson is still definitely in play, plus the draft process has to work itself out. If the wavier doesn’t come through, we could see Spears get cut loose. I haven’t heard a peep on Johnson. It’s getting SUPER late to cut him loose unless he’s going back to Montverde. Would hate to do that since he’s not really done anything to deserve it and it would be a heck of a negative recruiting tool down the line. “See why even consider playing for Self when even after you sign he’ll throw you out like a bum!” Not hard to imagine.
All that to say Spears is probably a take since he checks a lot of boxes and there’s a lot to play out yet. We’re well on our way to hitting our meltdown quota this offseason
-
@FarmerJayhawk I agree ball handling and solid small 2 to pair with Juan or back him up.
Cj would be his decision based on @BShark comments that his camp is not sure on it. That shouldn’t be negative recruiting as the kid made the decision and wasn’t pushed away.
-
@kuballin10 doesn’t matter. Future recruits won’t know and other coaches won’t care. Heck we still get static about Cheick freaking Diallo on the trail
-

Never getting another kid from Mali again I fear.
-
Juan/Primo/Timberlake is not a backcourt anyone is scared of. I don’t even think it could win the league.

Elmarko is a starter.

Spears visit is on.
-
-
The interesting part to this portal mayhem is that we have a Top 10 recruiting class coming in. That’s usually a great backbone.
So is the “normal” recruiting process this insane?
-
Wouldn’t Arterio Morris fill that second guard/ball handler spot? Heard he is making his decision in two weeks. What do the tea leaves say? What are our chances?
-
@RockkChalkk Spears has “a hell of a lot less” baggage.

I think that’s close based on actual production so far.
