@mayjay think we’ll be moving down? Several teams lost though? Bama, ksu, and ?
-
You don’t have to tell MJ to shoot!
-
Without looking at other teams around us, I think we should be in the 10-15 range. Hard to say after losing 3 in a row, and getting blown out at home that we deserve a top 10. But there’s also a lot of teams apart from Purdue that have suffered embarrassing losses as well.

Teams that lost this week: 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15×2, 18, 19, 20, 25
I think there’s a solid chance KU is still top 10 at 10 when the new poll comes out tomorrow because so many teams behind KU lost as well this week. Gonzaga at 14 is the only team likely to jump KU tomorrow. Baylor maybe jumps KU, but I think that’s a little much at this point, but them and Marquette should each jump 5 or so spots.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah, you might be right. I’m just thinking despite all the others losing seeing our results from before Saturday night we are nowhere near a top 10.
-
@Jethro I can’t find where you wrote about Rupps Rafters in full meltdown. I of course spend quite a bit of time at BuckysFifthQuarter and if you’re not aware, they’ve lost 6 of 7. Injuries have been a major factor, but the talk is quite ugly there. Badgers have been good basically this entire century so fans have a certain sense of entitlement even in Madison.
The basic gist is Greg Gard needs to go. The other side says he’s won 2 of the last 3 BIG championships, lost a guy to the NBA last year, graduated another couple of key pieces. Way too early to pull the plug is their reasoning. But it’s pretty ugly, but not like Rupps Rafters. It’s always hilarious when it’s the ‘enemy’ melting down. But it’s not as much fun when it involves the team you follow! Glad I still have the Jayhawks!

Not far, maybe 10th.
It is a crazy exercise to figure out whether the transitive property should apply to rankings. We lose to TCU, which stomped Oklahoma but lost to Miss St, whereas we beat Oklahoma but lost to KSU who beat UF but then KSU lost to ISU whom we beat. Does UK count as a good win because their record does not accurately reflect their talent?
Just have a drink and worry not!
-
Kentucky was the perfect game for Udeh. Kentucky doesn’t run anything complicated so he wouldn’t get lost. His only job was to be big, catch lobs, and stick to Oscar. The analytics favor Zuby, so we’ll see what happens. KSU is a bad matchup for Udeh IMO. They don’t have much in terms of post defense but Udeh isn’t a post scorer or rebounder (yet).
-
@FarmerJayhawk What’s hilarious is seeing Kentucky fans on twitter pissed at Udeh because he was, uh, IDK? Scoring, rebounding?? He only played a dozen minutes or so but they’re mad at him.
-
I’m also mad at Desi Sills for having 24 off the bench for K-St, Shahada Wells for having 17 off the bench for TCU, that pesky Zeigler from Tennessee who had a big game off the bench when beating us in the Bahamas.
In fact in all 4 of KU’s defeats this season, a bench guard for the other team has had double digit points. We have gripes. UK crying over our big catching 2 lob dunks is so rupp rafters

Everything considered , this game I feel was BIG for Udeh. COURT TIME - - extended , I’m not so sure about K/State- -they really don’t have a go to big for sure, a dominating big by any means. my own thinking is Zuby & Udeh both could really use more minutes in this game also - -get that in game experience . --I think if Ernest & Zuby just stick with it , we gonna have a couple of really solid big’s in the future, and can help a bit on down the line yet this year. – My question again is and ask on game chat - -thing is where does this put ZACH ? - - no sighting at Rupp not one second. - - -I still think he is out at the end of the season
-
Some think that when rankings come out today w will drop some - - I THINK actually we will quite possibly move up a spot maybe even two. I can see us landing at 7th - -I can see K/State moving up to 3rd ?
-
@jayballer67 KU moved up to 8th and KSU dropped to 7th. It wouldn’t have made any sense for KSU to move up because they lost to ISU last week.
Purdue stayed 1, Tennessee and Alabama swapped places and 2 and 4, Houston remained at 3, Arizona moved up to 5, Virginia at 6, UCLA dropped a spot to 9th and Texas stayed at 10th so the teams in the top 10 remained tge same, just order is different with only Purdue and Houston in the spots as last week.

Some strange results for sure. Glad the Big 12 wiped out the SEC for the last time. Especially when some of the top teams and programs lose like bama and tucky
-
Good to know that we can beat up on more then just ourselves within conference. TCU wasn’t whole or this could have been even more lopsided.

Well I also know some were saying that KU would drop - – no way. - That’s why I was saying we might move up a spot or to. - - Also teams ahead of K-State lost Houston lost - to a team much worse then another ranked team and yet they stayed put -I’m not any K/State humper but that doesn’t make any sense. Many Many teams lost ranked teams lost a lot of ranked teams behind us lost - if you have team ahead of you lost it’s always been the cycle you - - gonna drop not stay put. - I have no problem with where we are considering the slump we were in - -just seems crazy they dropped that’s all
-
Zuby will miss some time according to Self & Udeh will be 1st big off the bench.
-
Unfortunate for Zuby. Likely will mean his season is over if I were guessing. Back issues are hard for anyone to overcome in a short period of time, but especially for guys his size.
-
Foot injury. Self said extended period of time. X-Rays negative.
Mentions Kevin has gotten treatment last 2 days. Expects him available
-
@jayballer67 Without going back and checking Everyone (except purdue) it seems lost, but us losing 3 straight including the beatdown at home was my reasoning for why we maybe should be in the 10-15 range. I still think that’s where we should be. Make them earn their way back towards the top…except did you see our schedule coming up? Goodness.
I think any of the six games we could lose, KState tomorrow, at ISU Saturday, Texas, at OKie and OkieSt, and finally home with Baylor. I mean I don’t think we’re going 0-6 but any of those six we could lose. We could find ourselves in the middle of February with a 4-6 record in our last 10 just by splitting the next 6 games.
-
@BeddieKU23 For some reason I thought back. Not sure why now… Someone had a back injury this year. Either way a bummer.
-
MJ has had the back issues (spasms). We’ve certainly had our share of injuries this year. All 3 freshman have unfortunately had something going on already that has stunted their development.
-
The schedule is beyond redicilous.

Kevin has dealt with back stuff on and off as well.
-
@BeddieKU23 Yes and it’s ridiculous too! (sorry, teacher hat still being worn!)
-
Self now saying Zuby out 2-3 weeks. Hopefully he’s back for the late season push

Just another typical year of this league where we just beat one another up. - -I think the biggest chance we get beat is at Iowa State & Texas - -& to lesser degree at home against Baylor. - -I’ll take my chances against Oklahoma- - Oklahoma St & K State. - -I think tomorrow night in the phog - -K/State very easily running into a buzz saw.
Things going against K/State tomorrow - - They beat us already this year yet they only managed to beat us by one- - in overtime - -on their home floor when we dug a huge hole and had to work for most the game.- -I don’t see that happening again. 2nd - - -They are ranked higher in which all that does is add fuel to the fire for the fans at the Phog -I’m telling ya that place is going to be nuts & they have already beat us - -all motivational things for KU - - - - Could be wrong , but just like you said -the teams you mentioned put the shoe on the other foot - -just as easily as we could lose - - we could win & they could lose. Just got to be ready and come out prepared for war. - You can not afford an off night in this league - -it will eat you alive.
Just saw a stat that the Big 12 had 6 teams in the top 25 - -first in the Nation - -* 9 teams in the top 50 - -it is just war zone - night in - -night out
-
Oklahoma looked really good sat.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Funny, I didn’t really predict what happened but I told a friend who had a Bama fan smack talking him that Bama was due a big loss.

I saw him wearing a boot during the second half of the UK game, but I didn’t see him get injured. Did anyone see what happened? Step on someone’s foot or just come down wrong? He’s a big dude lots of force on his joints. Must be a fairly bad sprain to miss 2-3 weeks.
-
Haven’t seen where it happened either. All of a sudden, he was hurt and the announcers/cameras were following. Certainly sounds like high ankle that needs some time to heal.
-
@BeddieKU23 What would really suck is if it was the playoffs and he was the quarterback. Glad he has time to heal up 95%+ before hitting the court.
-
Definitely want to be cautious with a young big so agree get him right and ease him back in. We’ll need him for depth. We just have to hope we get more flashes out of Udeh like we got last game.
-
STILL trying to find out what’s up with Zach
-
@jayballer67 I’ll be honest he just isn’t any good. He’s weak, slow, can’t dunk at 6-10 and isn’t a Lightfoot or Tanner Groves type. His shot looks good just doesn’t go in much. I’d wager he transfers

thats all I’m wondering.- -Just haven’t heard anything , can tell he is in deep. Plus I’ve been saying for a long time Zach is gone at the end of this year. - -Just haven’t heard good - -bad - -or othrewise on him lately. Hell not even sure if he is on the bench anymore
-
@kuballin10 its a bad fit. He hasnt shown us anything we really need this year. Agree he transfers and hope its somewhere he gets lota of run . I could see a graf transfer to a big program if he figures it out
-
Zach played well today. Small sample size yes but it was improvement.
-
I should probably take y’all experts words for it, but I’m still optimistic about Z as a four year Jayhawk. I mean, his size and shooting will definitely be an asset, off the bench probably, especially with another season’s experience and reps in practice. Remember 2008 when we had four bigs and a giant cushion of fouls to give? I want a Self team like that again!
-
Zach did look more comfortable out there knowing he wasn’t going to pulled right away for letting his man easily blow past him to score. But jeez he needs to stop letting his man easily blow past him to score.
-
I would wait and see what happens after the season first but at some point the light bulb has to come on right? Sometimes it doesn’t until a player finds the right fit which has been a big discussion with Zach here, can his skills fit what Self wants from his 5 man?
I will add that Zach had a clear path to starting this year and not only did he not earn the spot, Self-converted a wing/4-man (Adams) to play the position late into the pre-season & 2 freshman beat him out for rotation minutes. Players usually realize where they are and start thinking maybe they need to find a fresh start (I’m not saying he should).
If we are looking at some positives for Zach recently, he’s scored in 6 straight games after not scoring at all in the first half of the season. He is averaging 7.5 mpg, 3.8 pts (60% from 3), 1.6 boards, 0.5 blocks in this small but 6 game sample. He has played the two best games this year at home (something to monitor for Saturday).
I’ve been in Zach’s corner since his high school days and I remain hopeful there’s something there to keep working with. At times he gives you those exciting flashes and I’ve always wondered what’s holding him back from showing that more.

I like Zach , not that means anything but I wanna see Zach do well , succeed. I’m pulling for him
