2022 Transfer Portal Thread

Really not anything even beginning to be excited about through the portal - kinda sucks, see all these other schools pulling these guys is - -Us NADA -ZELCH - -ZERO. But you also have to look at it this way, you just don’t take someone to be taking someone and then say - -oh ya we were really active through the portal Coach knows what he is doing.
Thankfully it looks like maybe we dodged the whole Dennis BS , you can’t tell me that there aren’t many players better talented - better fit for the KU team then Dennis. I watched Dennis play a lot and NOT that impressed. - Many times became a black hole you throw the ball to him - it’s not coming back many forced shots -many low percentage shots so hope we put that conversation to rest --hopefully he ends up in Indiana would very happy with that. So Although we have no one at the present, seems like we go through this evey year & every year we end up just fine- Got to beleive – Got to have trust in the Staff I’m sure we will get really good players/role players whatever is needed when it’s all said and done

https://wreg.com/sports/tyler-harris-enters-the-transfer-portal-says-decision-was-not-his/ Connect the dots with Kendric Davis.

The portal is interesting because guys go to one school and have one role, then go somewhere else and get a different role that is more suited to them.
Imagine, for instance, if Dajuan Harris had stuck with Missouri State and they tried to make him into more of a scoring guard that took 7-10 shots per game. That’s obviously not his game. He probably would have struggled in that environment. Imagine him now entering the portal after two years of putting up close to 10 shots a game. His numbers look something like 8.3 ppg, 3 assists, 1.5 turnovers, 49% FG%, 29% 3PT.
We would look at those numbers and say he isn’t good enough too play at KU, except that because Harris came here first and was in the correct role, he has played well and was a starter on a national champion. Or maybe he goes to Missouri State and plays the same role for them that he has here at KU, except that because he’s the third option instead of the fifth, his numbers are up only slightly, but his efficiency is down.
And I’m saying this assuming he is exactly the same player that he is today, the same guy that just helped KU win a national title, that made a couple of huge plays in the national championship game.
Fit is so important, especially in college basketball, where coaches and systems are so rigid that going to the wrong school or having the wrong role could change the course of your entire career.

Not the most trustworthy, Tyler had already transferred 3 times including going back to Memphis…
-
@justanotherfan Completely agree and I think Dennis would be a great fit for us.
Though I fully expect us to be waiting for the roster to be filled into late May/early June. I know we are targeting guys that are currently going through the draft process.
-
@BeddieKU23 True but the timing reaaaally lines up here. Penny making it so he doesn’t even have another PG on the roster when we have 3 listed.
-
Oscar Tshhhhbw back to Calamari land
-
Good for him missing the tournament again
-
Guess our out-goings transfers won’t announce until Friday. Seems to be the consensus thought now.
-
So I can rest my fingers from all the mouse clicking the refresh buttons for one more day?

Dennis was a 40% trey shooter as a freshman. Did you ever watch him and the Shockers play during his stay there? I can’t believe he stayed there that long because their offense was a joke and it hurt everyone’s game… He is an elite athlete with great form.
Being a great defender along with Juan would be a great match.
I’m willing to bet he’d be shooting treys above 40% next year as a Jayhawk.

I’d take that bet in HEARTBEAT - that is if i were a betting man. - I think Dennis would be a really bad match just is not that impressive we can do MUCH better

But unless he comes without daddy its a hard fit
-
Looks like Bill and Kyle have had THE TALK. Deleted some KU related stuff and posted to his IG story stuff about staying strong with God, change is coming etc…

Imagine just asking him to play like a wing instead of whatever tf that Memphis offense was…
This is the crown jewel of the portal this year.

It is a one year marriage. I’m sure we’ve had worse… or as bad

You have an emotional investment in the kid which I don’t have. What worried me was on an 18 minute highlight video of his very best plays, I counted two (2) drives to the basket. Him playing together with Juan on defense would be great, but the flip side is he’d be playing offense together with Juan, and combining a point guard who doesn’t score with a guard that doesn’t drive, and shoots 30% from 3 is a bridge too far for me.

Tbh he may not play much, if at all next year. You never know about Achilles injuries.

Oh god right, that was awful, good point.
Slater is okay and a guy that won’t go pro. If we have Jwill and CB leave. Dixon solid but probably not a fit. Longino an interesting long term play.

Tristan Enaruna to Cleveland State?

I think you are negatively emotional just because he was a Shocker. I could care less about that. The guy is a baller.
He has driving highlights as good as Och.

Thought he would do better ngl. Guess Gonzaga is up there.
-
We are NOT interested in Emoni Bates.
-
Good spot for him at Zaga. They lost both bigs
-
-
@Kcmatt7 We have a starting 4 secured, so I don’t think we even portal for one honestly.
My guess…1 scoring small guard, one big guard (pref scorer), one big.
-
@BShark Are you locking in Harris/CB/?/Wilson/Clemence rn for starting 5?
-
@Kcmatt7 My guess right now is Harris, Transfer, Rice, JWill, Zach/Transfer
Maybe Dick ends up starting over Rice.

Drat, losing Och and CB would really crush our outside shooting ability.
This looks like a great lineup for 1983, but maybe not for the modern outside shooting game. That transfer better be rock solid from 3, and an efficient scorer.
That is if what I’m reading about Rice is accurate…his game is more bully ball slash and powerful than outside threat at this point.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I suspect that the shooting will sort itself out. .340 is the worst shooting team Bill has ever had. Still ended up with a 2 seed.
Majority of the time he finds a way to get the team around .380 from deep.
-
Just because Mj Rice is next level strong already doesn’t mean he cant shoot. He can shoot. As Self described him when he commited he is a Pure Scorer. He was at Oak Hill putting up numbers on a sorry Oak Hill teamthen transfer to Prolific Prep. Gradey is a Pure Shooter who can go to the NBA right now and be a above 40% shooter but have to work on Ball Handling more to be the complete package
-
Mj is from North Carolina only reason Duke and UNC didn’t offer and other schoolswas because he Torn his ACL his Sophomore year but bounced back from it. But schools was still hesitant but Not Self because we need players
