Only two verbals that didn’t sign are Lawrence and Grays. If we can keep those two plus land a transfer (Les wants true or RS frosh from the portal) that’s a grand slam in 21. At some point I’ll sketch out a ROUGH two deep for next season. From what I have now, it’ll be mostly guys with 3 or less years in the program. It’s coming.
Are you sure just the two ? - - I read of TOS that it was three that didn’t sign. - - Lawrence , Grey’s - -AND Scott just curious buddy.
Like you say it’s coming just takes time
Scott signed. One of his buddies from Alabama might be next…

Oh ok, when did he sign ? I know at Miles press Conference he hadn’t -oh wait - -are they talking about Jacobi Scott is that right ? - -wasn’t he last year ? - -I’m confused lol

Sure hope your right Famer, I read off the Lawrence Journal world a couple of minutes ago them and TOS both said Tanaka Scot had not signed . - not trying to stir the pot buddy but just curious , maybe he has signed late tonight. Thanks for all your input guy- -I sure enjoy your related recruiting in BOTH Football & Basketball - - I guess we will find out sooner or later lol

You’re good. His HS tweeted it out. https://twitter.com/murphypanthers/status/1339257477859307521?s=21
It could be a blueshirt where he’s not on scholarship until August, but he’s a Jayhawk.

@FarmerJayhawk How tall was Willie Pless? or Todd Reesing?

Ok that’s 2 examples in close to 40 years. You’re ignoring the legions of undersized guys without solid measureables that can’t do it at this level.
If you look at our really good teams over the years, they all had real pro talent. The Orange Bowl team had Talib, Harris, Hawkinson, Briscoe, etc. Mason’s best teams had pro talent on the lines.
I’d rather take my chances with guys who look good on film and can develop than diamonds in the rough. Beaty tried that and it went poorly.
-
@FarmerJayhawk True, but too often a player is overlooked simply because of size. Not overlooking legions of undersized guys; just saying that size doesn’t mean everything when it comes to recruiting. There are some small guys in pro sports doing quite well after doing well at the collegiate level.

I get that. My point is those guys are outliers. Perfect example in this class. Tank Young from Aquinas is 5’6. If he was 5’10 205 would he have more offers? Maybe, but his tape and measureables don’t warrant a spot at KU, even though he put up gaudy numbers. He’s definitely not Sproles, who KU absolutely whiffed on.

Todd Reesing checked pretty much every box other than heighth when looking at a QB. If he was even 6-0 or 6-1, he probably would’ve been a 4* QB and competing with Colt McCoy at Texas instead of coming to KU. If he was 6-3 or taller, decent chance he could’ve been a 5* or very high end 4* player.

I liked Reesing, but his height wasn’t the only thing that held him back. He also did not have great arm strength. He was top notch on decision making and was very mobile, along with being accurate, but his size and arm strength is what had a lot of recruiting services down on him. Even if he were taller, he probably would not have been a 4* because of that, unless he was a better runner that could have made him a higher rated dual threat.

KU has now announced Scott. I think Grays is close to a lock, there was just some bureaucracy that meant he couldn’t sign early. I feel pretty confident Edwin White will announce he’s signed with KU tomorrow. And so will end the early period.

They’ll reach out to any they think can play right away and have multiple years. I don’t know whether that interest is being reciprocated though. We may not have anyone until after spring ball.
-
New OL coach! Lee Grimes. Played at A&M, coached at Minnesota and most recently Charlotte. Deep connections in Texas. Fits the mold of Les’s hires so far. Comes from a big college program, and is young and hungry. We’ll see if it pays off. I at least think it’s an upgrade over Meadows (I know, low bar.)
-
Herman out, Sark in at Texas. That happened in a hurry.
-
Coach Chidera left for SMU. Look for an internal promotion.
-
KU has hired Jake Schoonover to be the new LB coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Schoonover spent the past 3 years in a similar role at Bowling Green and 7 years at Illinois St. before BG.
-
I like it on paper. Losing Chidera sucks but Wallace obviously wasn’t cutting it at ST. KC ties is a bonus.
-
Read where Rick Neuischel former Coach of Colorado pushing for the job at KU - reaching out to some Big KU Booasters

Lincoln Riley headed to USC. Legit shocker. I don’t get heading there instead of LSU but I’m glad he’s out of the league
-
@FarmerJayhawk which league?

David Cutcliffe fired after 14 years at Duke.

There’s a lot less pressure at USC right now than LSU. If the SEC keeps a 2 division format when OU and Texas join, LSU and OU wouldn’t likely even be in the division as Alabama. I would guess Alabama and Auburn would move to the SEC East and Missouri and would move to SEC West.
I’m also wondering if Lincoln turning down LSU has anything to do with Jimbo Fisher’s potential interest in LSU. Another name I’m hearing as a potential option with Billy Napier off the table is Lane Kiffin.

Less pressure for sure. I could see them kicking the MS schools to the East to build the West into an absolute monster.
From what I saw Riley doesn’t want to coach in the SEC and was really peeved OU is moving. The Lane Train in Baton Rouge would be either amazing or total fecal festival and I’m here for either.
Finally, thank mercy we’re not playing in the sandbox this year. No way we’d end up with as good a coach as Leipold.

So Ok , guessing maybe I’m more Naive then what I thought. I just don’t see why the move Anywhere. I mean he is already at a top notch program , awesome facilities, always top recruits , very winning program, probably gets anything he asks for - -don’t see a step up improvement for sure - -to USC? - -not a better program at the very best lateral move great fan base - -I just can’t see the advantage - -why? - - -I’m sure he makes a butt load of money from his Base Salary and then all the endorsements - -tell me how does USC be a better position then Oklahoma - the league he is moving to by far is no better - I 'll wait go ahead fill me in

The path to a playoff at USC and the P12 is much easier than the SEC, even if the playoffs expand. In the new SEC, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Texas, and Texas A&M are all teams that are or will consistently be threats to win the SEC. In the PAC 12, it’s usually Oregon or Utah that’s the biggest hurdle.

Also, recruiting to USC with the right coach can land a top 5 class every season because SoCal is one of the 3 most fertile recruiting areas after Texas and Florida.

Right both of you. It looks kind of soft, like he doesn’t want to get beat in the SEC. It is USC, but the same can be said about Oklahoma. With the recruiting in Cali though, he’s going to absolutely dominate the Pac12. Almost guaranteed to be playoff bound every year. It just smells like a soft move. Not even coaching his team in whatever bowl game!
-
Unlikely, OU had a good recruiting class and don’t think KU is contending for any of those guys
-
Riley to USC is a shocker. All that pumped up bologna to LSU. Florida gets Napier. No Idea what LSU is getting but they seem to have missed a good opportunity to have a coach here before ESD. Seems like no matter who they hire they have missed the ball if it doesn’t happen in the next few days. Coaches can go in-home and have big recruiting weekends before ESD now.
As a FSU fan I’m hoping some dominos fall our way because of this…
-
Started here as well. Drake and Jackson are out. Replaced with Onatolu and Jordan Peterson
-
Lol hearing Oklahoma all in a stew , pretty much Riley packed up and got out in the middle of the night. Was at the Airport him and staff still dark this morning and leaving - -lmao .Like they said kinda Carma coming back and smacking Oklahoma right back in the gut.
Before the common OU Joe when they bolted and saying they going to the SEC - -the OU fan saying HEY that’s the way it goes we gotta look out for ourselves, NOW it’s happened to Oklahoma. Sports program stating have no idea why Riley would leave for USC - -and how the PAC 12 is trash. - Now Oklahoma saying what we gonna do. - Rattler transferring - - lots of smoke about Williams transferring. They saying they never thought Riley would leave unless it was the NFL- - now I’m loving this - -called Karma what OU and Texas did to the Big 12 - -Now Riley did t Oklahoma
-
Just read off the Soones Board that Venables was to be named the New Head Coach at around 3:00 this afternoon. - Most seem happy but conern aout him being able to maintain all the offensive talent they have
Also being reported that Lincoln contract for USC is to be 110 Million & USC is buying both his homes in Oklahoma -& Unlimited use of USC jet for the Riley family. - - now this is all rumor but thats what is coming out from local sports media

Coming into this season, you could’ve added Washington to that list of Pac-12 contenders, but their program imploded after a series of on- and off-field missteps. Now they’re in the middle of their own coaching search. The Huskies are set for a rebuild that’ll take at least a couple of years. UW has the money to get a quality coach, just not USC or Nike/Oregon money.

I’d very surprised if Venables wants anything to do with OU after the way they ran him off for Mike Stoops a few years back.

Lincoln Riley is also affecting OU’s recruiting class as they their lost 5 star QB in the 2022 class. Spencer Rattler also announced he is transferring which was going to happen regardless of Lincoln Riley considering he was benched.

Saw $15m/year for Kelly at LSU. Just stuuuupid money

Can’t see Urban being a hit with the ND folks, bad fit especially in light of his off-the-field issues. Seems like its Freeman & Fickell
