Lance Leipold

  • It will be a very interesting Saturday for sure. We will find out if Mizzou is for real with Bama in Columbia. We are heavy underdogs at Tech but I will say this much, we could very well be the best team Tech has faced thus far. We have to get the run game going and control the clock from the opening kick to have a chance. Techs strength is their d-line, is theirs better than Mizzou or Cincinnati? Idk yet they have only played one team with a pulse.

We don’t beat K-State in football

Like you, I look to recent history rather than overall. KU last beat KState in 2008; that’s 16 consecutive wins for KState. That’s what sticks in my mind about KU football and all the KState fans that surround me in Kansas. I was at Memorial Stadium when KU finally stopped the Nebr streak in 2007.

  • @stoptheflop I agree. The way I think about our competitiveness is how many wins have we had against a team since the freshmen arriving on campus were in Kindergarten. (That’s since 2012 as of now. And right now, KU vs K-State = -3 wins)

  • @bskeet -3 wins? Hasn’t KU lost all those games? Or are you combining all sports? Kansas has lost 15 straight football games to Manhattan. 28/31 or some nonsense. KSU must’ve been absolutely wretched in the early days for KU football to still have a winning record against them.

  • @dylans You must be relatively young - within a few blocks either way of 40. The reason I say that (and the reason a loss to KSU antagonizes me so much) is that back in the day the roles were reversed. We absolutely dominated them. But then again so did everyone else. They were LITERALLY the worst team in college football. That wasn’t an opinion, it was fact. There was a lot of serious talk about them just shutting down the program. Then Bill Snyder showed up and ruined the party.

  • @nuleafjhawk Yeah. I remember that, but I was a kid. My entire adult life KU has sucked at football outside of a couple outlier years and KSU has owned KU football, just as KU basketball has owned KSU.

  • Bill Snyder and Tom Osborne are models for a program like KU. Lance is as good as it gets, he’s in that mold.

I believe it was some season around 1978, '79 or '80 when the Playboy preseason football ranking had KState as the worst college football team, with KU close behind. After Nolan Cromwell left, it was just sad in our little state.

  • @mayjay Oh, you just got that for the articles, eh?

  • @patoh3 I probably got around to reading it long after football was over.

Seriously, though, the PB football issue was very highly respected. Their preseason All Americans were flown for a big photo shoot, and they made predictions for lots of awards, etc. Not the same level as SI but they had quite a run.

  • @mayjay But PB’s benefits were better 😉

  • I’m not saying we should fire Lance. But if we keep him we have to accept that we will never beat K State

  • @dylans Sorry-- what I was saying is negative 3. As in Zero and then you can go back three more years of losses. My son is a sophomore. He was 3 years old the last time KU beat KState in football. (He doesn’t remember it.)

  • Honestly, what does it matter who coaches KU? Doesn’t seem to matter much.

But, we at least seem respectable at times with Lance. I’m in no hurry to rush him out the door.

(I do think he should have given other QBs a chance to right the ship today)

  • Im just shocked how bad we weren’t ready to play. KSU blitz’s a high percentage of the time and we seemed shocked. They did it all game last season vs us. Jalon Daniels may have turned in the worst QB performance I’ve ever seen at any level. Unfortunately my sons team lost the championship game today as well and I’m sure our 5th grade QB had a better passer rating than JD. I hope we never see JD in a KU uniform again. X is exploding with people thinking he threw the damn game thats how bad he was. I hope the team corned him in the locker room and said your done loser.

  • @kjayhawks I’m not a JD superfan, but what would be his motive for throwing this game?

  • @nuleafjhawk Sorry to say but that same thought raced through my mind for a second myself but then I thought NA surely not. Yet his play was so atrocious some them was like WOW it looked like that’s exactly what he was doing

  • Yeah its not logical that he threw it. His head wasnt in it, the pressure got to him, and he had a really bad game. Cant kick JD to the curb. He has done a lot for this program. But man, that was rough.

  • @approxinfinity Logically he didn’t throw the game but man that was bad like the worst KU performance I’ve seen in my lifetimes. That says a lot @nuleafjhawk money would be the gain lol. Question becomes can we even beat Okie lite? Not with today’s performance

  • @kjayhawks I definitely think we can beat OK ST. If we use our cheerleaders instead of our so called football players.

  • Hard to imagine the weekend going worse than it with Volleyball getting upset Friday to start and likely ending their B12 title hopes. Between today and the rain its depressing

  • I wonder if the Indiana coach would like to move to Lawrence? It’d be fun to ruin another good coach…

  • The coach is only going to take you as far as the QB will go. The QB will only take you as far as the line will allow. The skill players have to complete the plays. None of it works without the other parts.

JD is probably maxed out - this is what we get this year. Hopefully the next QB seizes the job early and leaves no doubt.

He just signed an 8 year, $93 million extension to keep him from going to Penn St.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Don’t take everything I say so literally. I just like to think out loud sometimes.
