found this kind of interesting , was doing my searchs of other boards and came across this. Not sure if the staff has said anything but their fans sure showing interest talking about Ernest- - -And that is DUKE. , they all seem to like rest, was talking about his rim protection how he had 4 blocks against them in 13 minutes- I guess Mitchell and other players have already hollered at him. Like I said I don’t know if Schyer has contacted or thinking about it or not. - -That would be really good for Ernest

They’ve been looking for a shot blocking 5 to put next to filipowski

Well we shall see if they contact. - I would be doing back flips for him, if he was a land at a place like that -he deserves that great kid

  • @Crimsonorblue22 said in Bye Bye Ernest:

@jayballer67 hate to lose Udeh but even worse to Duke! 🤮

I just want to see him land at a place where he can play , the higher the status of the school the better. Doesn’t matter to me , I’m even happier that he is not in conference, he come back play against us and play out his mind

  • @dylans said in Bye Bye Ernest:

    Trade for Mackenzie

    That crossed my mind too

  • @madmax said in Bye Bye Ernest:

We act like a lot of these athletes couldn’t get an academic scholarship if sports wasn’t in the picture.

I’d be willing to bet 90% of D1 basketball players couldnt.

  • Very interesting, the concept of a trade now that there is no sit out year

  • @BigBad I’ll take that bet. Walk ons plus Ivy’s and there you have it

  • So Duke didn’t lose any players to the Portal. Hmm. We might have a nice way to test this strategy of dumping your entire roster.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Count me in on that bet. What a poor assumption about basketball athletes. Plus most states offer half/partial scholarships if you have 3.0 or above. To assume 90% can’t average B’s is ludicrous. My high school and college team only had one player under 3.0. Neither was in the nicest part of town if you know what I mean.

  • When he steps foot off campus, I don’t care what happens to him in the realm of basketball. I don’t wish him any harm, but I don’t particularly care if he excels at another school either. He doesn’t care about KU, KU (meaning me) doesn’t care about him. It’s nothing personal - just a “business” decision.

  • @nuleafjhawk is this like an object permanence disorder, or…?

    😉

  • @nuleafjhawk I guarantee you he cares more about KU than Hunter does. He was set aside for the new, shiner more experienced model, maybe for 2 yrs. Develop as a practice player.

  • Guess Mgbako is fine being a loosier.

  • @Eric-san Wow! Didn’t expect that…

  • Just lol.

  • Twitter surprised at the decision to go to Indiana.

  • @approxinfinity I just don’t see the point of worshiping someone who briefly wears a Kansas uniform. When they bail through the portal or jump to the NBA after one season it’s like the Gotye song - Somebody That I Used To Know.

  • @nuleafjhawk I don’t think we should worship anyone, especially young men going to college to try to prepare for a career.

We should give them our support.

    But I’ll stop preaching.

  • Marked safe from a former Duke commit. It’s a blessing in disguise

My stance from the beginning is I didn’t want him so it’s fitting.

This new recruiting world is unsustainable

  • Ehh one year rental. Next

  • @BeddieKU23 said in Bye Bye Ernest:

This new recruiting world is unsustainable

Seems perfectly sustainable to me. All the schools have access to hundreds more players than they realistically could have gotten in contact with under the prior system. But the schools like ours who used to keep talent on the second string who could start elsewhere will have to adjust their expectations. There will still be thousands of kids leaving college every year, and thousands entering.

I think it might well expose which coaches can develop medium players and can be flexible enough to adapt their systems to their players.

  • @dylans said in Bye Bye Ernest:

    They all are

  • @approxinfinity just bantering with you brother - why should we give them our support? Joe Blow, a former KU standout, an up an coming star, transfers to Mizzou. Are we now proud Tiger backers?

When Tyreek Hill “transferred” to Miami, did we all become Dolphin fans? No. We were almost universally “screw you Tyreek”.

How is it different now? Because they don’t get paid? Whoops. They do.

I’ll be the bad guy. I don’t give a hoot about people that leave KU.

  • @nuleafjhawk bantering is what we do!

Tyreek Hill did bad stuff before departing. Chiefs didnt want him there.

Udeh left because Bill recruited over him after a promising freshman season. Good kid.

    Its different.

And if Udeh went to Mizzou I’d get on the “Ernest is dead to me” boat with you, but he wont, because Mizzou sucks and Ernest does not.

  • @approxinfinity “dead to me” isn’t really the terminology I would use, I would just say ignore or not care. But I see your point. So, please, anyone who sees this - I have no ill will towards anyone who leaves KU, I’m just no longer interested.

  • I’m going to be honest. I’m a fan of KU not the individual players. Over time I become fans of the players and will follow their pro careers, but it’s only because of their time at KU. Kids who leave for another school no longer have any appeal, but the ones who stick it out I return the loyalty.

  • @dylans So Joel Embiid has no interest for you?

  • @dylans Dammit. That’s what I’ve been trying to say. Except I don’t watch pro ball.

  • @mayjay No, I don’t think Joel knows who I am.

-what does Embiid have to do with transfers?!? Bill pushed him out the door. Embiid cried about leaving KU for the NBA. What a weird rebuttal. His NBA rookie card has Kansas info on the back. It’s not a JR Giddens thing. I don’t follow Giddens.

As an aside I haven’t watched an NBA game since the bubble tournament and only watched then due to a lack of options.

  • Duke had no one enter the portal. I don’t know the answer to the question, but someone here might. Why? And why a bunch for us?

The guys I don’t understand leaving are the guys like Udeh, and Zuby who played regularly as freshmen and had a bright future here.

Although I don’t like to admit it in a case like this I think @mayjay is right. The coaches who adjust and focus on the system guys are the ones who will be the next batch of successful coaches. Something tells me Bill Self is one of those guys.

  • @wissox KU was always going to lose one of Zuby and Udeh at some point because they played the same position and were the same class. Losing both in the same year sucks, but nobody should be surprised that one of them was eventually going to leave because top 50 recruits don’t go to a school with the intention of being a career back up.

  • @wissox said in Bye Bye Ernest:

But they no doubt want to play pro somewhere. Coming off the bench a second year would limit their chances pretty severely. I don’t like them being gone, but they are preparing for a career and their developmental years would be half or 3/4 gone before they ever start if they stayed at KU while HD is here.

  • Just saw Udeh is visiting Duke and K state. Ouch.

  • @benshawks08 said in Bye Bye Ernest:

Just saw Udeh is visiting Duke and K state. Ouch.

If he goes to Duke, someone will have to make it make sense for me. Ryan Young, Filipowski and TJ Power will be eating a ton of minutes at the 4/5. I don’t see how he gets much more PT there than here. But w/e.

The KSU one would sting. Watching him play for them for the next 3 years would absolutely suck.

I’m pretty bummed to see him go, but I was hoping somewhere we wouldn’t have to watch lol.

  • @benshawks08 said in Bye Bye Ernest:

Wouldn’t that just be the perfect outcome - - K/State bit us right square in the ass

  • This is a MASSIVE low point for me with this transfer/NIL stuff. If it is like this yearly I’m going to have a real hard time watching this.

  • Maybe we can hold out hope that this is a ploy to get his own NIL upped at Kansas? Is that a possibility? I know I’m reaching here. I totally agree with @Kcmatt7 that if Duke is on the table, why not stay here?

  • @benshawks08 said in Bye Bye Ernest:

Just saw Udeh is visiting Duke and K state. Ouch.

TCU is also on his list to visit.

  • Is putting your name in the portal now like putting your name in the draft pool? Just dip your toe in to see what feedback you get? I don’t think I’d want a player that entered the portal back unless conversations had led him to that point and conditions changed. (Zuby).

  • @dylans I think you have to treat it that way if you’re trying to fill out the best roster. But typically I assume putting your name in the portal means you’re likely gone.

  • Duke lock

  • @BShark said in Bye Bye Ernest:

    Duke lock

Unfortunate but it’s a no brainer decision for him since they can provide a starting role

  • I think I’m going to be sick.

  • @BShark said in Bye Bye Ernest:

    Duke lock

    Sickening tbh.

I’m really not crazy high on our starting lineup at the moment either. Even with Nelson, it is a bit concerning. The saving grace was that we would have a ton of depth. But with Udeh and Zuby out we have absolutely questionable/non-existent depth at the 3,4 and 5 spots. And with the portal closed targets are limited. If we end up with Parker Freaking Braun as backup Center I won’t even know what to think.

Agreed. Our two wing replacements are Marcus Adams and Timberlake. Timberlake is 6’4 idk how well he’ll hold up defensively at the 3 and Marcus Adams is a totally unknown variable that we can’t count on for now. Obviously bill will get a guy in but it’s looking murky for now

  • Not worried in the least. My question is where is KJ going to play? So, we have KJ, Timberlake, and Adams potentially at 4. Starting lineup of: Juando/Morris/ Timberlake/KJ/ Dickinson. El Marko and Adams coming off the bench. Why are we gnashing our teeth and pulling out our hair? That’s a hell of a team.

  • @benshawks08 Well - Duke, K-State, Mizzou - it doesn’t matter. We have to root for this young man, invest in his mental, physical, spiritual and emotional well being because he lived in Lawrence for a few months and wore a Kansas uniform for a few minutes.

This is in no way directed at you @benshawks08. I just saw your post that listed Duke/K-State…

  • @nuleafjhawk if he goes to Duke I will be actively rooting for him to fail.

There’s only 3 front court players on the team right now. KJ has to be the starting 4 with the current roster composition because he isn’t sitting behind Marcus Adams.

I also question who the starting 3 will be because I have serious doubts about Timberlake’s defense being good enough to play 30 mpg for Bill Self, but starting Marcus Adams at the 3 also means you don’t have a big man on the bench either. Self absolutely has to land a starting caliber 3 or 4 from the guys who withdraw from the draft otherwise front court depth will be a very major problem next season.
