2023 Transfer Portal

  • Saw where Hunters Plane didnt get here till latte last night

  • Well Well. -Damian Collins from Kentucky just entered the portal

With these others Schools getting involved now , Kentucky , Arkansas , Villanova visits upcoming think it’s become obvious that Hunter is playing the NIL bidding war. Who is going to pay the most for my one yr. I know from an article I think it was Bossi wrote some time back that even though Kentucky and Arkansas had been mentioned but not likely Hunters landing spot -stating Ku , Marylan & G Town were the front runners. - -Now here comes Kentucky - - hence the NIL bidding war

Was on the Rupp boards and I guess Calipari flew to Michigan Tuesday and met with Hunter , Hunter saying they talked for like to hours , & Hunter stated Kentucky really , really wants me which inside means - - how much you willing to put out to prove you want me.

Some Kentucky fans mentioned and I didn’t really know but I guess Hunter has a little bit I am full of myself attitude - -a center of attention type guy sometimes just kinda of wrong type of attitude and they saying hope that wouldn’t flare up there… - I don’ really get it thought they already have the possibility of Oscar coming back - - They have Ugonna Kingsley returning & they have highly rated 7"2 Aaron Bradshaw coming in - kind why they neve or haven’t recently anyways done alot. - - Got all this talent and they have talent on top of talent sitting the bench - -not enough basketballs – makes ya think with that type of recruiting cancers in the lockerroom disruptin team chemistry. - -I stil myself think he ends at Maryland but who knows for sure.

He is driving up his price.

  • @Jethro I’m beginning to get more curious what the actual annual NIL budget for KU is. As long as it’s unregulated go hog wild as one of the big boys. I do wish there would be some sort of “salary cap” or some better solution to promote equity.

We need a T Boone Pickens clone for KU. I don’t want equity unless we’re losing.

  • Like I said NIL has just turnd this into a bidding war. I get that the kids possibly need some kind of income – but this is Bull shit. you get that kind of money , then just by pass college and take your shot at G league - -B leauge - P league I don’t give a crap league and stay the hell out of the College game

  • What difference does it make now that payments to obtain players are: a) much higher, b) known rather than just suspected, and c) made by many schools rather than the elites?

Is the quality of basketball lower if NIL helps bring in veterans?

Does a player who doesn’t have to scrape by corrupt his program?

Much pearl clutching, but I don’t see the problem about knowing players are finally able to get paid for their work.

We have some billionaires. Yes plural. One was up in Lawrence the other day right before the Hunter visit. I won’t name him out of respect that I was asked not too. But he was a big one to get on board…

Nothing has really changed other than perception. Some people don’t like knowing how sausage is made, they just want to eat sausage.

Yeah he is pretty wealthy. Loves KU too.

  • @BShark I think that NIL and the transfer portal created a much more level playing field for everyone. Sure, it is chaos. Sure recruiting your own guys to stay feels insane sometimes. But now KU/Duke/UNC/UK can’t just hoard talent the same way they always have. Where the 12th guy on their bench starts at 99% of other schools in the country. Now you have to find a way to keep that guy from leaving you to go start for ECU, Cleveland State, New Mexico, Boise State, etc.

The portal and NIL allowed Miami to get their first ever FF and their first two Elite Eights. SDSU’s leading scorer was a Cal transfer. Their #2 scorer was a transfer from Seattle. 4th scorer from TCU. Literally the starting 5 of KSU were transfers at some point.

Teams who legitimately could not compete in a world where transfers had to sit out, and they didn’t have the favor of shoe companies to land talent could not truly compete. This is SOOOO much more of a balanced system than it was before.

  • @Kcmatt7 Well said, this all goes both ways.

Oh btw, old fling alert Yohan Traore just ended up at UC Santa Barbara. Ultimately, guys are going to end up at the level they belong at a lot more now too.

  • I see it the opposite. The Texas techs of the world are just farm teams for the haves. KU is a have, so f’em is the attitude. Who desires a level field when you’re on top? KU basketball will be just fine. The field? TBD

How has Kentucky done in the Transfer Portal Era though? Calipari has largely struggled to maintain where he had Kentucky during the OAD era. Coach K had early struggles with the Portal Era before getting it right his last season. Roy retired partly because he didn’t think he could adapt to the Portal Era. It remains to be seen if Self can consistently challenge for national titles in this era. Even 2022 wasn’t smooth in regards to Remy, and KU had some good luck in regards to tournament match ups. Last year certainly wasn’t smooth either so we’ll see how well Self can construct this roster next season and how successful the team will be.

3 of the 5 top players on the TTU NC appearance team were transfers.

There are 1400+ transfers in the portal. KU can only take 3-4 of them. There is SO much talent out there to be had.

  • @Kcmatt7 - not to mention the NBA potential players who come back at a later date who are very good.

The more players in the portal the more stratification of talent.

  • Shedrick to Texas and Disu announced he is coming back. Longhorns should be stout again…

  • Christian Braun’s bro in the portal. Parker was at Santa Clara avg 7 ppg 5 boards

  • Now THIS I can take, Hell ya. - just read where Jalen Tyson is expected to visit this weekend. - -put the full court press on guys - -this guy we can take , would like to have

  • Hunter Sallis to Wake.

Glad to see him off the board.

  • @Kcmatt7

Good spot for him, Wake has a good coach and system for him

  • Huggy got Raequan Battle… WVU has quietly put together a pretty damn good portal class. Should be able to compete in the top half of the league this year imo.

  • CJ Fredrick moving to the B12 with a commitment to Cincy. Probably goes for 30 against us.

  • Tyson was claiming discrimination (spit on by coach)- one of the few reasons acceptable for 2nd transfer waivers allowing immediate eligibility.

  • If you love someone [on your team that wants to transfer], set them free [by spitting on them]

Ties to a former assistant coach now at Cal.

  • Joe Yesufu has announced he’s headed to Washington St.

  • Fan Favorite Sahvir Wheeler transfers to Washington. Poor huskies, ha

    Here’s a good one…lol : https://twitter.com/ethanbock_/status/1651577645082062849

Maybe they can give him more NIL this time haha

  • Penn’s Jordan Dingle expected to portal.

Best guard rumored to enter outside of Murrell imo. Guy can fill it up and get his own. Efficient scorer putting up 23ppg on 16 shots. Finishes in the lane. Draws a lot of fouls. Makes his free throws. Will be coveted.

  • @Kcmatt7

    Yes please!

  • Read where Marvel Allen de-committing from George Town and re-opening his recruitment

Can’t find a better fit at the 2

  • Toledo’s RayJ Dennis in the Portal, another big time scorer. MAC player of the year. Avg 19.5pts, 4.3 boards, 5.8 assists on 48% shooting, 36% from 3.

  • Utah Valley’s Aziz Bandaogo in the Portal. 7 foot Soph avg 11 and 10 with 2.9 blocks per game

also would take! Plays bigger than he is. All over the court. Rebounds, assists, steals. Guy can play. Has KILLER post game actually lol.

I’d probably prefer Dingle’s ability in ISO situations. But I have to say that Rayj sort of fits the “share the ball” attitude good Bill Self teams have.

Loved both of their films. If we are not reaching out with serious intent I don’t know anything anymore

  • @Kcmatt7

Definitely intriguing, his game log was a stat stuffer. Some decent efforts against decent teams (Cincinnati, BYU among them). 7 foot, 215 pounds though which would not fit our traditional body at the 5. He’s a lot like Udeh, rim runner, excellent athletic ability (big time lob guy), instinctual shot blocker.

  • Ok I know you’ve heard this before so don’t shoot the messenger: Dickinson wrote a farewell message to Michigan fans last night and said he would announce his team today, Thursday. By the way, Kyle Cuffe entered the portal yesterday too. Coincidence? Fingers crossed today(and probably beyond). RC

  • @stoptheflop

I think the Cuffe news was more in relation to Mgbako optimism but none the less we have room for both without issue. Bill has gone full savage
