I have nothing but complete respect for the UNC fanbase. They certainly deserved more than what they got on the court this year:

Off the top, the East bracket looks the toughest to emerge from.
West is second.
-
First games of the weekend never worry me with this staff, it’s the second game that usually gets us. BS win percentage is great in every round but the round of 32 and the elite game is the only one sub .500
-
Que sera sera…put Doris Day on, and just keep the faith!
-
Now time to see if the women can survive their embarrassing loss to TCU and sneak into the women’s tournament.

@jayballer67 Kev is expected to practice either Mon or Tues
Well thats good to hear, I mean we know he won’t be 100 % - but if we can get some meaningful minutes , his defense is a must for us to advance, it’s just a must we got to get Grady going more and get something out of Juan - he has JUST GOT to be aggressive mode - pretty simple - he is aggressive scores in double figures- --we win – he comes out like he does in games like Texas we screwed

@Kcmatt7 Glad I don’t trust Ken Pom

Thank you NCAA Committee for being soooo… balanced — er — consistent?
-
And the KU women fail to make the NCAA Tournament this year. That TCU loss in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament knocked them out of the NCAA tournament.
-
Non ideal bracket.
I’ll remain hopeful we got a run in us. Time for J Will and Juan to lead us back to the Final 4!

From CBSSports.com…
- Reigning champion Kansas gets jobbed
After Kansas thumbed its nose at the NCAA throughout the FBI case investigating the program and corruption within college basketball, which was adjudicated before the season with mostly meaningless penalties, it doesn’t feel like too much of a stretch here to say the committee wasn’t incentivized to go out of its way to award the reigning champion Kansas Jayhawks. Maybe that’s a little too tin-foil cap theory-like of me, but consider this: Kansas had 17 Quad 1 wins – four more than No. 1 overall seed Alabama and 10 more than No. 2 overall team Houston – and landed as the No. 3 overall team.
Kansas still landed on the No. 1 seed line, but in getting passed by as the No. 1 overall seed and getting jumped by Houston, KU did not get to land in the Midwest Region. That pushes the Jayhawks to the West, which is arguably the toughest region of them all. So not only did the Jayhawks not draw a favorable geographic spot, they got a tough region to boot.
-
@DCHawker the NCAA hates anyone west of the Mississippi River. You could tell they weren’t happy when we won last season. Called us the Kansas City Jayhawks.
-
@BShark who else did he pick, have been on the rd.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Marquette, Texas, Bama
-
Let’s hope for some upsets in this bracket.
-
@kjayhawks I guess my wife hates me since she has made that mistake. And she has referred to the Kansas Chiefs, too. Man, I see her true feelings now . . . after 25 years, too.
-
Well we play at 1:00 Thursday
-
@mayjay haha poor guy, that was just a small part but to me and the folks I watched the game with they didn’t seem happy at all. Maybe it was just us but North Carolina amnesty association is what most call it in basketball lol
-
@kjayhawks said in Complain About KU's Unfair Bracket Thread:
Maybe this will give us motivation, last time in KC we got super tight and failed.
At least we played. We’re not some garbage team like K-State that wasn’t even in the tournament.
-
Well. Does being snubbed a lil and sent out west give this team the Chip it’s gonna take to win it all? It’s a tough bracket but they can beat anyone. Energized and intense defensive mindset. Everything else works if they start there
-
Can I say something positive about our draw on this thread? Not sure if that’s allowed but here we go.
This draw could be good for this team mentally. Last years team was trying to prove everyone (bill self in particular) wrong. They’d convinced themselves that no one thought they could win and set out to do just that.
I’m seeing all kinds of stuff about how we are the 3rd or 4th most likely team in our bracket to make the final four. If that doesn’t build @drgnslayr ’s chip I don’t know what will. Everyone talking about Kansas City and how this team had that wrapped up and earned it etc., that was SOFT. You earn things by WINNING GAMES not playing a tough schedule. This team earned the big 12 championship by winning more games. This team LOST the big 12 tourney and the last game in Austin because they thought they’d earned a number 1 seed in the Midwest. It’s wake up time. No one is going to give this team the championship because they won the best league. No one is going to give this team a championship because they played the toughest schedule. Only way to win the championship is to go win. And guess what Jalen, no one thinks you can do it.
-
I can imagine having Self back will be a relief. Hopefully the troops can reset and respond positively
-
@BeddieKU23 definitely agree. Even though I do think Norm did a pretty good job. It’s just different. Who knows. Maybe they will have a renewed vigor just from having Self there and knowing what he went thru and etc. I just want to see them play like we all know they can. Great things will happen
-
@benshawks08 most last night picked against them and went with UConn. Just like the Chiefs this year, maybe being the underdog is what they need as a little motivation or to help focus.
-
I don’t get the UConn love. I assume it’s because ESPN is right down the street. They went undefeated in the non-conference, but they only beat two teams that made the NCAA tournament in non-conference and only have 6 wins over tournament teams total and were 6-6 overall against tournament teams. That’s not the hallmark of a great team. Not having a legit PG is their downfall and that’s being ignored by a lot of people. I’m not even convinced UConn makes the Sweet 16 as they have to start against Rick Pitino who is still one of two active coaches with multiple national titles and he has time to prepare a game plan against UConn. Iona is going to give UConn all kinds of problems. UConn will probably get St. Mary’s in the round of 32 and that’s a team that can beat UConn as well as Logan Johnson and Kyle Bowen will cause UConn’s backcourt issues.

Based on Vegas odds, the West is by far the toughest region, at least at the top. 3 of the 6 top betting favorites to cut down the net are in the West (KU, UCLA and Gonzaga). The other regions have just one each. West has betting favorite 2 and 3 seeds, and second favorite 4 seed. From betting standpoint, Midwest is easily the weakest region.

Norm did a great job and got us to the Championship game. How many assistant coaches can do that against the caliber of teams we faced? I would think the list is very short. Very happy we have such a fantastic right-hand man that’s done nothing but accept the challenges given to him and succeeded.
I had a thought that the adrenaline of playing for your coach in the circumstances they did on Thursday/Friday worked but then wore off. It was definitely a distraction for the team no matter what they said to the media.
I trust the staff to get these guys in the right mindset for Thursday. No excuses needed. They have to man up

After a murders row (sarcasm font) of 6 opponents in the 2022 (upset induced I understand), we have little room to complain about the west. We also had 7 losses, a mindblowing number of losses for a #1 seed in my opinion. I get the quad 1 wins and all that. We still lost 7 times.
-
@wissox The bracket looks hard, because of our confidence in the team. It appears to be the #4 bracket with the best 2 seed, but we don’t have to play everyone and as you said upsets happen. Hard to complain too much about being a 1 seed…yet again. Bill is amazing - how many top seeds during his tenure?
-

Right there with you. I don’t think any team deserves an easy path but we definitely didn’t. What are we, 8 on kenpom? The metrics don’t love us. We lost a lot of games. Seeds are all perception anyway. Want to prove you’re the best? Win the games. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME! Lol.
-
How many losses do we have in all the other leagues? Obviously, we can’t answer that with a fact, but we know how tough our league was compared to every other one out there.
I agree 7 losses is a lot for a 1 seed. Committee got it right though. UCLA had 5 in a super weak league & Texas was up next after that with 8 losses.

Soooooo spot on! This is the best opportunity for us! Except for a few losses this year we played our best ball when being pushed by playing good teams. We seldom roll over bad teams.
The biggest reason why most teams don’t repeat as champs is they have ZERO chip!
I hope my comments like, “in the 50+ years of my Jayhawk support this is the worse defense I’ve ever seen in a game” helps these guys realize they are completely unproven. Last year is over. This is all on them and they just played the worst defensive game in over 50 years!
Time they prove to us, their most beloved fans, they are worthy of wearing crimson/blue!
Time for a chip!
They need to take full ownership of this team and are help 100% accountable!

Excuses and whom we play won’t matter come Thursday. Every foe but the first one will likely be a battle. This the NCAA teams will come to play. I’m ready
-
They been talking about how KU got screwed on their bracket today. -How in the hell do you rank Houston as a higher seeded # 1 then KU. – this year the NCAA said that Houston had or was 15 -2 in Quad 1 & Quad 2 wins - they took into consideration. - Like they said KU was 21-7 against Quad one with no Quad two. - - Houston had a loss to a Quad 3.
Then they said well They took into account - That Houston lost to Memphis they played without Sasser. - -Which the others said that’s fine they could understand BUT KU lost to a higher Ranked team without Kevin. Then they said well they took into account they didn’t know if KU would have Coach Self - Again fine but can you tell us that Houston is going to have Sasser for their game ?
We brought out how the NCAA stressed the importance of Quad ! wins was - if your gonna combine Quad 2 & Quad 1 wins - then why should teams schedule such hard non games if your not gonna value the Quad 1’s more – why not just go out and schedule nothing but Quad 2’s. - -Again Houston has horrible Quad 3 loss
Then the guys brought up according to the advanced stats -KU has the worst chance of reaching the final four of any # 1 seed since the advanced metrics in the last 20 years. - Saying how hard the West Region obviously the hardest region easily this year - Stating UCLA - - Gon ZAGA - - -& another hd better chance to reach the final four according the metrics then KU out of our region. - -They were going off - - but a lot of good points - -KU should of NEVE been dropped lower then Houston on # 1 seeds. - -Ya Ku got blown out by Texas - -BUT Houston got their ass whipped too, would of been different if they had won. - I thought I was feeling a little sore and why I was hanging onto my ankles
-
@Jethro I am impressed by your prediction

Don’t like it either. When Bill was sent into the hospital, there was exactly one other fanbase that went out of their way to say I hope he’s ok- we’re praying for him. And it was UNC. I think their fans deserve a better product, and to build some momentum for next year by competing in the NIT. Bad choice, imo.
-
Yes… while we quibble over our bracket UNC looks ridiculous and arrogant.
What a difference a year makes!
I complain sometimes but I am so grateful we have Self, staff, AD, and the university that knows what it’s doing!
I’ve always considered UNC our “sister school”… I had a little beef over Roy not recruiting east, but otherwise… a high amount of respect… especially for Coach Dean Smith.
I think they are struggling with expectations and results right now. I’d hate to be in their shoes. They were all pretty certain they would return to the FF and have a better result this year.
But sometimes it is important to show humility in life. This is the time for UNC to be humble and sit on their egos.

I just looked at UConn’s schedule and they’ve got some nice wins in there, ISU on Nov. 27 which I assume was some island tournament or something, Marquette (whom Wisconsin also beat in Milwaukee), and most impressively Bama. Hard to figure out how to judge thanksgiving vacation tournament wins of which Bama is one as well. But they also lost to Seton Hall whom we destroyed.

Absolutely! But the coaching on up should support an NIT spot. Maybe the truth is they didn’t like their chances in the NIT. Then a bad season becomes a worse season!
-
Not a Purdue believer but this is interesting
-
@drgnslayr They could have used NIT to provide minutes to bench players, simply saying No is a Slap on the Face IMO.
