    Boo!

    Astros ARE CHEATERS!!

They call us cheaters, too. Teams have been stealing signs in baseball for 100 years. Not sorry!

  • @Jethro Pettiford is clearly the back-up PG. He needs to be willing to shoot to get much time next to Dajuan imo.

  • Coach Self said he doesn’t know what he is going to do Monday - -said maybe play Golf , I guess he said he won’t even be in the Office on Monday

  • We didn’t start playing until we were down by 15. Just like our football team

  • @RockChalkinTexas me too!🥰

  • @Jethro They literally caught the ass-stros beating on garbage cans to relay info to the hitters from a camera in the rafters. Not like a runner on second tipping off the batter

Couldn’t agree more buddy - - Bobby needs to play- --just stay healthy

  • I love he dives on the floor, but that hip…oh and the bandaid on his face💪🏾

Screw off with your “Ass-tros” shit. Every team had a sign stealing system in place. Carlos Beltran is the one who told the Astros about the Yankess system and why the Astros developed their own season. Also doesn’t change that the Astros had a better road than home record in 2017 and won that World Series in Dodger Stadium. Keep on hating and the Astros are just gonna keep on winning.

  • Ass-stros three S’s

  • After the game tonight bill self stated that MJ Has a lower back injury

  • @FarmerJayhawk like our new guys, just really miss CB, Och, Big Dave. Oh and Mitch!

  • @JAYHAWKFAN214 I’m really anxious to see MJ play.

Don’t really give a shit. After Saturday night, you can address them as Champs. I’ll be sure to send you a WS Champs shirt.

  • Back to the game where we all can agree who are the good guys… Some takeaways:

Jalen Wilson: the only thing holding him back from being pretty awesome almost every night is his head / mindset.

Grady Dick: looks like a scorer. Good now. Should be very good by Feb. I expect him to start henceforth.

Kevin: Really solid and will save our bacon in several games this year. He will become our most reliable player by January.

Juan: Pretty much where he left off last year. Would have liked him to find at least one 3. Its something he should have worked on during the offseason.

KJ: Bouncy and athletic as ever. Should be much improved by conference. If not, someone else will need to take his place as a starter.

Bobby: I can see him becoming a force.

This team looks like it is at it’s best when it’s pushing the pace and is able to take advantage of its athleticism. This means it’s fragile and vulnerable to teams that are disciplined and know how to slow the pace (and shoot the 3). McCullar is the only guy that looked like he could be depended on to produce in that kind of match up.

PS: Jeff Bochee: Looked great and had his team ready. Seeing him on the court (even with all that hair) brought back some fond memories.

  • @bskeet I’m sure Juan did, 10 assists and 6 pts isn’t to shabby.

  • Whoooaaa doggie!

Gradey’s got a smoooottth stroke! Wow.

It was our first game, and an exhibition, so not sure how much we can read into things.

I do have the same concern I’ve had since the summer…3 pt shooting. Gonna need some more. Once teams scout Grady and shove him off the line as best they can, somebody will have to step up.

That paired with zero post game could be a basic basketball problem against big boy teams.

    Waaaayy better second half.

How do you think our young bigs did? First glance not sure I can tell much about their games yet. Udeh had some dunks! For some reason I had it in my head that Zuby would be the better of the two.

Cuffe played!!! How bout that? I was excited to see him and the new bigs.

I’m afraid Self is asking things of Joe that he simply isn’t comfortable with — get downhill to the hoop.

  • @DanR lolz I remember that from making Houston our whipping boy back in the NL Central day before they ran west.

    LOL! Love it…

  • Very happy to have basketball back!

By Exhibition standards this was one of the poorest games in the Self era. Good to get out there and have this tape for practice though.

I have no idea how this team will score once scouted. Self has his work cut out for him with this group. I know he’ll mold them into something.

    Some individual notes:

Gradey was as advertised on offense. That shot of his is capable of performing at an elite level. The announcer seemed pretty shocked he could drive to the hoop which lets me know he didn’t scout him very well. I was particularly paying attention to his defense which was good to average at times. His offense will force him into the starting lineup. KJ is a non-factor on O besides his ability to move the ball & that’s something scouting will expose against us.

Kevin- you can see clearly why Self liked him, versatile big guard that is well schooled defensively. His defensive awareness is top notch, like Self coached him for years already. Him and Harris on the press was bad news bears for Pitt St. On offense you can see why he’s still in College his shot has just never developed to the point of being a weapon. Hopefully he can find some efficiency as the season progresses.

Juan/Jalen have that added smoothness/comfortability to their games after years in the system. Jalen looks in great shape.

Thought Bobby looked sharp especially with the hustle plays. Is he afraid to shoot?

We have a lot of small guards (Juan, Bobby, Yesufu, Cuffe) and only Joe seems to have the awareness or ability to look for his shot. Really hope Bobby can evolve his game past the little we’ve seen which can absolutely be a positive. Anyone else notice Bobby holding the area he had surgery on it seemed?

Not buying the back excuse on Rice. We know better by now.

Good to see Cuffe out there. He’s certainly behind still and you can just see it. Unfortunate. Probably won’t play much this season.

Love the long-term potential of Zuby/Udeh. Those are grown men. 3 months from now it will be interesting to see their development. Seems like one of these guys is absolutely a key.

There will be growing pains for sure. Hopefully in the opener we have a little more focus at the start.

  • Clemence made the case for starting at the 5. I don’t understand why many posters want Adams at the 5, which was where he started in the second half. In 14 min. Zach shot 3/3-7 pts, 4 rbs. 1 blk; whereas in 21 min, Adams scored 4 pts on 1/3 shooting, had an ugly 3 attempt, 1 rb, 1 stl and 1 blk. Yes, late in the second half Zuby reminded me of Dok in the paint. But, for now Zach should get most of the minutes at the 5 while Udeh and Zuby figure things out.

  • @stoptheflop Zach is a good player but a horrendous fit for what Bill wants. Could see multiple times Bill was FURIOUS with him. Going to be very interesting…

  • Oof. Live I thought Zach sucked last night. Was by far the 4th option at the 5 imo

  • @bskeet as Farmer pointed out Wilson was really selfish this game.

He drove twice where he had easy dump offs to bigs for dunks and instead he tried tough layups up against two defenders and missed

Juan we were told is the most improved and will score. His stat line didn’t show any of that.

Love the 10 assists - hate against Pitt state he didn’t drive and live in the lane. That’s what’s frustrating if he isn’t going to score then he has to penetrate and he just passes it around the perimeter not doing much.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 against the competition it isn’t great

You could have had 10 assists with guys wide open knocking down shots the second half

If we are told he will score more I expect to see that aggression but if we get Juan of last year he isn’t improved

How he didn’t shoot 500 threes a day plus his floaters I won’t understand. We are told he’s gonna be nails and lead us so I expect that to be the case (this Juan in the Nova game)

  • @stoptheflop

There were a few plays where Zach caught the ball under the basket and had no basket awareness it seemed. I’m guessing those plays in Bill’s eyes are no-no’s especially as he searches for any kind of big that can give him a front court presence. His drive from the perimeter for a layup was nice. He showed his perimeter touch late on another. You see the tools that can be useful, but they also seem to be skills Bill doesn’t care about featuring or catering too.

It was game zero, I don’t think we’ve seen enough from him but first impression wasn’t flattering. Zach had a clear path to starting here and so far he hasn’t seized it.

I remain hopeful Zach does become a reliable option down low.

Which makes you wonder why Bill even recruited him, right?

Why not use him for what he is, instead of trying to jam him into a mold he’s not???

  • @rockchalkjayhawk fantastic point Sure makes you wonder.

Bill values things and players many in the game wouldn’t. Curious why that is.

Kerr is great because he plays his guys to their strengths that’s the job as a coach. Use their skill set and maximize it not take them and try to make them fit a scheme they don’t.

Hey, i thought i was the only conspiracy theory prognosticator around here! 🙂

  • Coach values toughness and defense. These intangibles are exactly why the Wiggs, Cb’s and D’taes want to play for him and why they are successful now. The guys that want to play for him know that signing on. Some take awhile to figure it out.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk somebody said Gurley said shoulder separation, I think.

  • Gradey Dick led all KU players at the FT line hitting 3/5. As a team, KU FT shooting was 8/20. How in the hell does a team of D1 athletes shoot less than 50%? Doesn’t McCarthy have an indoor basketball court for unlimited practice? There’s no excuse for such poor FT shooting. It seems like our coaching staff just tolerates it.

Barely hit the backboard. I’ll give him a pass due to nerves.

Poor guy. U could see he was nervous.

I’m hoping to see more of Cuffe early in the season. We don’t know much about his skills. Seemed quick enough on the floor.

  • Cuffe would not play much for Pitt State I would wager. Note the recruiting class this year, loaded up on guards.

Hoping he gets some PT in a real game so we can assess a bit more. Always exciting to see new players out there.
