2021 March Madness

NCAA announces Madness to be held in a bubble. Preliminary discussions with Indianapolis about holding the tourney there.
This seemed like the only way there will be a tournament this year. We shall see who gets it and how it’s done

I didn’t read about the scheduling. Would they compress the games into just one week?

Not a lot of specifics at this time besides moving all the regional games and putting them into one place. Can imagine the specifics of this tourney will have lots of moving parts

Would love to see them hold the tourney at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Shades of Gene Hackman.
They’ll probably need more physical space than that, though, so they’ll probably use Lucas Oil Stadium.

my question would be how are they going to work all these 1st round games into ONE bubble stadium, as there will be no way they can get them all in ? - was reading the article off ESPN - -going to present some real challenges. Was talking about all the cities that was losing their 1st round and 2nd round games
Just doing some editing. Now I’m hearing they talking on local sports talk show about different sites in Indy they can use - -talking about using the court from butler university , then naming some others - -that’s defeating the purpose - - they wanted a bubble enviroment Umm Butler University , and others aren’t bubble - -that won’t work - -if they going to play on multiple sites in Indy then why take them away from the other host sites

@nwhawkfan There’d have to be multiple venues in use to accommodate every game. You could probably split Lucas Oil in half and play two games there. The NCAA would probably have to use the Pacers arena for games and they might have to use Hinkle as a 4th venue to accommodate 1st weekend games.
I could definitely see that happening.

I think they could probably fit 4 on Lucas Oil with room to spare.

@Kcmatt7 I doubt the stadium has enough locker rooms to accommodate that many teams playing at once though

Because historically they always play in North Carolina anyway…

Only if Duke’s skipping out on the 2022 ACC Tournament in Brooklyn. They won’t be back to Greensboro until 2023.

Assuming the NCAA uses multiple venues, it’ll be interesting to see which arena KU gets sent to. They’re already making one trip to the city in a couple of weeks for the Kentucky game on the Pacers home court. Getting to play at Bankers Life Fieldhouse again in the tourney could give them a slight advantage in terms of familiarity.
