As much as I hate it, at this point I’d be about ready to let them take self in exchange as well
-
@cragarhawk I’m almost at the point where I’d be fine with a change.

@jayballer73 they don’t know crap

@jayballer73 Still don’t see Dave doing anything but pushing people back.
You must not of saw where I apologized stating I was wrong , from what I saw in the replay - -Dave was just pulling people and then they said was stepping on people -not sure about that

IMHO, SDS felt humiliated at the steal. He at least blocked it but emotions poured forth after frustrating seasons this year and last. Enaruma was probably lectured ceaselessly by HCBS when he let the ball be stolen at the end of a previous game. Who knows how much the lack of playing time has affected his psyche. Not defending his actions but it looked like a lot of anger coming out there…

NCAA Ejection and Suspension Summary. Penalty – Player is suspended for the remainder of the contest. Penalty – Offending play and Head Coach is suspended for the remainder of contest or if prior to the game the complete game. Penalty – Suspended for the remainder of the contest and the following 3 games. Is this applicable here?
-
Just listened to Myron Metcalf’s repot. Saying he had attended many of Bill Self’s post games conference, and when the questioned was posed about Silvio, you could see how it Effected coach Self and saying consequences would be handled tomorrow , Metcalf saying he would be surprised if DeSousa ever played for KU again

I’d say Weber and Love are toast for at least three games.
-
@DanR What about our players and coaches?
-
@Gorilla72 Totally agree. We’ve done a really poor job at teaching males how to deal with humiliation, frustration, and anger. Myself included.
-
@BigBad @cragarhawk FBI, lying, embarrassment at Late Night, now this. Ugh. I’m interested to hear from Self on this.

Tonight’s game has been sponsored by The Committee for Preservation of Basketball Rivalries. Any lack of competitiveness resulting in an overwhelming disinterest by normal sports fans has hopefully been replaced, as needed, by an entertaining production of nitwits striving to bash each others’ heads. ESPN+ be damned. We want KU-KSU games to stay on the main network for years!
-
@jayballer73 that would given me a smidgen if respect back for CS… Who picks up a damn chair? He’s gotta be gone. The end
-
@HighEliteMajor remember when we used to talk about how many lil10 titles we’d trade for just one more NC?
It’s evolved into how many would we trade to be rid of all the latest embarrassments. But of course, that doesn’t fit into this era of unaccountability…

@benshawks08 I learned a long time ago. Very simple. Rule # 1: Run. Rule #2: If running doesn’t work, make a joke. Rule #3: If joke doesn’t work, see Rule #1.

/r/CollegeBasketball rulebookguy 3 points · 1 year ago They are only suspended for the next game if they participated in the fight. The NCAA Case Book covers this situation. A.R. 276. A6 and B6 leave the bench because a fight has broken out. A6 and B6 do not participate in the fight. RULING: A6 and B6 shall be ejected. No free-throw penalties or technical fouls shall be assessed to A6 and B6 or the coaches of Team A and Team B. Because neither participated in the fight, no fighting penalty or suspension shall be invoked against them. And the NCAA Rule Book talks about suspensions for being involved in the fight in Rule 10-5: Art. 11. The first time an individual participates in a fight during the season (including exhibition games), the individual shall be suspended from participating in the team’s next regular-season game (not an exhibition contest), including tournament competition.

@bskeet Big boys should be able to handle someone making a dick move. I thought Silvio did great by blocking it.
He should have gone to check if the guy was okay, smiled, and helped him up.
Angry about it after demolishing the guy with the block? That’s a head case problem right there.
If you cannot successfully dribble out 3 seconds when only 2 guys are anywhere near you, ay yi yi.
I’m not justifying it. But there are circumstances that provide a bit of context:
- BGreene dunk that left a bitter taste in purple mouths
- Monmouth one shining moment by stealing and dunking
- 22 point beatdown and the bench is in.
- Silvio probably has a significant chip on his shoulder from all that he’s gone through in the past 24 months.
The ingredients are there… it doesn’t take much of a spark.
-
@bskeet You missed a key element…The fact that the game was over and the benches were already standing. If this happened with 10-15 seconds left I don’t think K-suck clears bench
-
@BigBad The game wasn’t over; everyone thought it was Wasn’t there a big fight involving Cincinnati and Xavier a few years back? What happened as a result of that?
-
@COHawk Benches routinely stand up around 5 seconds. A lot of times coaches are shaking hands around that time.

kjayhawks said:
It all started with KSU pressing, then fouling hard as hell in a 25 point game with 2 minutes to go and KU having walk ons in.
THIS
-
@BigBad Yes, but turns out there was one second left.
-
@bskeet yep @Texas-Hawk-10 said he claimed to have pulled them off but this wasn’t the last few seconds and the steal, it was the whole time our walk ons were in. They still had starters in, Weber’s stupidity is definitely in play here.

Actually after seeing this , it was The K-State point guard the Juco getting into it with Silvio 1st and Silvio throwing punches then Love comes in
Exactly. There were three people attacking Silvio. If it were me, thrown to the ground by three guys and finding a photographer’s stool on the ground where I lay, I might grab it as well out of firm sense of self-preservation.

This works for sure. But a lot of boys have real and very deep pain. Humor can be an outlet for that pain but can also further bury it. We’ve gotta make it ok for men to talk about what they are feeling, how they are hurting so that the boys can see it and learn from it. We gotta change what it means to “man up.”

Uh, no. Block the shot, high five your teammates, all smiles, game over. Easy.

Indeed. That is what it should have been.
Instead it became a career-limiting moment. Possibly life altering.
And another embarrassment for a program that needed no more examples of ‘lack of institutional control’.
Sigh.

Completely agree. A controlled response that doesn’t insult the other person is always the best decision.

I have a rule that’s served me pretty well over the years, in part because I’m lazy and occasionally like to do easy things. Don’t be an asshole.

Reminds me of a quote from The Green Book:
“You never win with violence. You only win when you maintain your dignity.”
-
@benshawks08 a controlled response would’ve helped from KSUs coaching staff instead of having starters still in that late and fouling hard. A controlled response by the KSU player by not stealing it, a controlled response from the bench player charging and hitting Silvio would’ve helped. Plenty of folks played a hand in it but KSU started it with a bush league play, end of story.
-
@benshawks08 Unfortunately, it seems so many in our world of sport seem to think that is part of the game: do what we can to belittle the other person/team, don’t take any crap from him/them, etc. As coaches, we need to teach our athletes how to learn to walk away and let the opponent figure out how to deal with it.
-
@kjayhawks Definitely. Plenty of blame to go around here. Many poor decisions both individual and systematic.
-
@COHawk It’s what kills me about Marshall’s play angry nonsense. Play to win. Play for joy. Play to get better. Why anger? Cheapest motivator.

That’s a fair addition.
Also, the point @kjayhawks made about K-State’s decision to press and foul hard when trailing by 25, our bench players in, and there’s less than 2 min left.
None of this condones Silvio’s decision to taunt. But it might help explain the powder keg.
-
And were they penalized for storming the court and slamming jamari a few years ago? Self was pinned against the scorers table.
-
@kjayhawks being KU, and letting anything anyone from KSU does… Throw you that far off your rocker? Bush league or not? We had nothing to gain and everything to lose. If the roles were reversed and any ksuck player had done the same thing, garauntee you’d be berating that player and calling the situation their fault right now. Tired of this thuggish, it’s okay for us but not for them… Two wrongs suddenly make a right, everyone else is doing it bullshit and that’s why I’ve watched a grand total of 2.5 games of NCAA basketball this season thus far… A guy that used to watch atleast 300 a season (no joke).

Agreed! Or even try to injure other players. Look at the flack Tyrann Mathieu got for not decking Watson at the end of what was then a blowout.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Now, now…Remember, Traylor should not have been on our team and Self should never have played him, etc etc etc. Did you forget there was a (self-proclaimed) “winner” of that argument? It was Self’s decision to play JT, so it was Self’s fault he was in Manhattan to get slammed by the KSU turd.

-
Looks like it should be a meme… “When ya cant recruit because of impending violations.……”
-
Soon here will come the token “espn only covers Duke, we gotta get exposure from something”
-
@cragarhawk the Bulk of the blame is on the guy that runs in and starts swinging, which in this case was a KSU guy. If it was reversed I’d say it was the KU that ran in and turned it into a physical altercation. You of all people know how pissed I’d get at the Morris twins for similar actions repeatedly. This is the first I’ve seen Silvio pull like this. It was outta line but he didn’t lay a hand on anyone first. Which doesn’t make it right but also really isn’t that big of a deal, if ether team just would’ve let it roll.
-
@kjayhawks Isn’t that big of a deal? Perception is huge; how will our administration perceive the incident? How will other schools perceive it? How will recruits perceive it? How does the media perceive it? Doesn’t matter who started it and we don’t need to blame others; we can’t condone or rationalize such actions as part of sport.
-
We won’t even talk about this in March.
Don’t steal the ball at the end. None of this happens. If you wanna be a dick, expect it right back.
If Silvio hasn’t picked up a chair I’d say he didn’t even deserve a suspension. But he did. So 1 game sounds fair in my book. (I’m sure it’ll be more).
-
@Kcmatt7 You’re probably right about not talking about it come March, but I’d be willing to bet we hear about it from opponents and the media. Hopefully, all involved can take something positive from it, accept any consequences, and move on.
