Idea: Townsend rides into the sunset, we rehab Wade.
How about Dooley? I think Wade is radioactive at the moment…
( Plus, I cannot stand Wade’s facial expressions during games. He truly looks like he bit into a strong assed shit sandwich.)
Dooley can replace Townsend when he goes to take his nap.

So no one would ever confuse Tom Crean with a proper basketball coach but going 16-16 (5-13 in league play) with a roster that had Anthony Edwards, Sahvir Wheeler and Rayshaun Hammonds is IMPRESSIVE in its own special way.

He knows Bill about to go on a tear.
In all honestly, he was a likable guy. Basketball is worse without him.

Bill is the best coach in CBB now. It really can’t even be argued.
-
If we didn’t have Self I would have wanted Jay Wright.
-
This announcement has twitter absolutely roasting Coach K rn too which is an added bonus
-
@Kcmatt7 DESERVED
-
Wow I can’t believe it. Jay was my pick to replace Self if we ever had the opening. Mad respect for him
-
Hmmm whats up Cam, Brendan, Mark?
-
I bet $1 that Jay will either be at Duke or Kentucky in 2 years. Part of the plan
-
@rockchalkwyo Nope. Legit retirement. Going into broadcasting and enjoying time with his family.
-
All I can say is WOW. - - Didn’t see that coming
-
Bill Self is currently the only active D1 men’s basketball head coach with multiple national championships, at least according to official NCAA records since nobody officially won the 2013 title.
-
Jay’s retirement is a huge loss to college basketball.
-
Imagine if Wright had beaten us in the Final 4 again and then retired. I’d loath him forever but since we handed him his last L the world is good! Enjoy retirement Jay.

No it was mentioned yesterday, I think it was off an ESPN article it’s now Him & Rick Pitino as the only one’s

Nova already hired Wright’s replacement so sounds like this was in the works… There may not be attrition since the new coach was his former assistant

Yeah this was planned. Probably sent him off for HC experience as part of the plan.
Jeremy Case is on an extremely similar path, just in the earlier stages of it. Kyle started as a video coordinator for Jay, lol.

Jerome Tang 2 KU

Jerome Tang 2 KU
Let’s check back in 5 years on this guy. Impressive to make K-St relevant for a year with the roster overhaul he’s had but the next thing will be seeing how he recruits, how he develops guys that didn’t already spend most of their career developing somewhere else. Johnson & Nowell were already finished products when he got here & represent the 1% of College Players at their positions. Very interested to see how effective his offense is when he doesn’t have 2 All Conference guys.
-
@BeddieKU23 I actually think he is incredibly cheesy and phony. Miss me with the spiritual stuff.
-
@BShark Spiritual stuff is a real thing for a lot of people. Including me. I haven’t watched him enough to know if he’s cheesy and phony.
-
I like him as a person. I keep thinking how he toiled away for 20 years, and nobody gave him the time of day. Then I look at Baylor and they look not as elite as in years past, and then I look at the Puddy Tats and think they kinda look semi-elite, and say “What changed”? The Brains of Baylor left, and went to Silo Tech. And dude went and got Keyonte. And turned up Nowell. New Coach Thad Matta is laying a turd on Butler and this dude has Silo Tech in the Top 10. Drew can’t come in out of the rain compared to Tang, imo. Yeah, the dancing BS is BS, cheesy milking the crowd type crap is annoying, but he’ll get better at that too once he’s been around awhile. I believe it’s in our interest that they don’t suck. Not sucking means more eyeballs on our games, even on streaming games. We’re a national brand - we need competitive games.

It’s clearly a big part of who he is, which is (I think) unfortunately rare today. I have zero problem with him expressing himself in that way. I also have zero problem with people poking fun at it on occasion.

Yeah I definitely think he should be able to express himself how he wants. It’s just a bit over the top for me personally. I know Baylor while he was there leaned into religion for recruiting and negative recruiting especially against KU. Don’t know how much of that was Tang of course.
-
Just assume he followed the leader there on recruiting. We all know Scotty is a
-
Interesting I haven’t paid attention to his interviews at all. Guess he hasn’t gotten to Bruce level yet which is a plus.
As far as coaching he seems like he knows what he’s doing. I expected them to be bottom 5 in all of power 5 but this collection of rug rats has 2 stars that are better then most they play so that carries them. I’m very interested to see how he coaches when he doesn’t have that to lean on. Just about every coach that pops up with that 1 great year regresses the following.
He might have a new gig next year so we won’t know for sure for a while if he’s just lucky or one to take notice of
-
Reminds me of when Beasley came in as a protege of Frank Martin. Well above average coach pulled off a puddy tat recruiting coup and rode that for a few seasons. Only so far you can go in the little apple tho.
-
KSU was expected to be cellar dwellers this year in the Big 12. Tang is in discussion for D1 Coach of the Year, and so far, I’d give him a vote.
I’ve said this before… KSU either stops with the “F-KU” garbage or he is gone. He was definitely a huge part of the success at Baylor, and let’s not forget that Baylor is a private Baptist university. I know Baylor sells the spiritual side of their program to recruits… who often have religious parents. Kansas sells “family environment” and it makes a huge difference in our recruiting. I believe Tang will only IMPROVE on his recruiting as he settles in. He won’t be able to land big recruits who are faith-based if the crowd is chanting the “F-word!” I know it, as fact, that KSU administration is on a mission to stop it!
What I’m not sure about… KSU is a state-funded university, and I’m not sure how “Christian” Tang can be.
The shifting of schools and conferences has made schools like KU and KSU work on their resumes.
-
Last night Missourah was beating the crap out of LSU, they played Mr Brightside, so they had to pay homage to their daddies by unleashing their “F KU” chant. In a game against LSU they were winning. We own them.
-
@Jethro That’s a little beyond bizarre. How does something like that happen?
Oh yeah. By consistently getting your a$$ beat and by never - NEVER - yes, that’s correct - NNNNEEEEVVVVEEEERRRR getting to a Final Four.
Bunch of degenerates.
