This is one of the weirdest one’s I’ve seen.
I would like to know whether the redshirt is because of the sort-of-transfer rule applying to him now or some plan for Zach after this year.
If it’s the former, ha, wow. If it’s the latter, so much changes in a year. Hard to imagine he won’t be recruited over again next year.
Per ON3 and Swain, “Swain added that Clemence is expected to redshirt this coming season even though he’d be eligible to play.
“Clemence initially announced his intention to transfer from Kansas this past spring and committed to UC Santa Barbara, but he did not enroll at UCSB and therefore is not a two-time transfer, so he could have been eligible to play this season,” says Swain. “But the expectation is that he will redshirt at KU next season. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after the redshirt season.”
-
Makes total sense to me. Even if he gets recruited over he gets to learn on a top shelf program then transfer out with 2 years of eligibility

It’s not always about basketball. Zach honestly needs help, and I’m glad Bill took him back for that reason.
-
He could learn big time from Hunter, similar builds from when he showed up to Michigan

And que the next thread…Zach has a problem we don’t know about. Let the speculation begin!

Well, it’s not exactly a secret around Lawrence what happened last offseason.
I have a friend that worked at Sunrise who talked with Zach today. Sounds like his head is in the right place currently. I also wonder if there were any stipulations for his return regarding his mom. I haven’t heard anything in that regard but maybe @FarmerJayhawk has.

There ya go. If it ain’t exactly a secret…please share! I haven’t heard any rumors or issues with Zach. So, well kept secret if it never made any of the boards. Hope it’s minor.
-
@BShark I’ll say this. There’s a reason Zach is back and not Ernie

I suppose I can air it now that it’s not happening. Ernie wanted to come back, just never worked out on KU’s end. Zach was willing to do whatever, Ernie wanted more.
-
Ah, bummer for Udeh. I liked him.
Those two get into a Tyshawn Taylor vs the KU football team skirmish?
-
Ernie wanted more what? Money? What happened last season? Why the secrecy?
-
Lots of stuff you hear around Lawrence that doesn’t make it to the boards. I really don’t think it does much good so I’ll just leave it at he failed to meet the standards of the KU basketball program and expectations Self had.

I heard he thought he should start over Hunter, and also thought he was a OAD right now. Just too fractured to be repaired, on both sides.

Role/playing time mostly. Sounds like he has a big ego.
-
@BShark his AAU coach has been a bad influence. Mama Udeh is still cranky over the deal

“Udeh should have listened to his mom” trusted source.
-
@BShark good life advice generally tbh
-
For sure.

Thanks, Farmer & BShark!

Unless you’re Billy Preston, then don’t listen to your mom.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 especially if she’s banging your bag man. Then NOT GREAT BOB
-
I like it. Gives Zach a year to muscle up and learn with no expectation to see the floor. At the same time if he is needed, heaven forbid, he could step in at a moments notice. Kid has some instincts but needs some polish and muscle. He is in a good place to gain both.
-
@FarmerJayhawk amen to moms!
-
@BShark Udeh sure had good body language on the bench and in the locker room.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 what a nightmare!
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 How about if you are Cliff Alexander?
-
@AsadZ that’s definitely a no!
-
@BShark he sure didn’t act like he had a big ego!

He literally left for playing time, and at the last possible minute after kinda telling the staff he would be back. He isn’t what he seems.
-
@BShark “after kinda telling”? I don’t blame him! Maybe 2 more yrs of sitting on the bench? I don’t believe being a practice player against Hunter makes you a great player. You need game time. Do we know what Coach told Udeh? You will sit 3 yrs before I play you much? I think he has to much upside and was an ultimate team guy. I hope Hunter is a team guy.
-
-
@BShark poisonous, constrictor, or bull? Or could it be all 3? I am asking for a friend.
-
@BShark Udeh a snake? Sure had most of us fooled. Looked like he loved being a Jayhawk! Or you talking about me?🥰
-
ChiChi’s NOT a celebration of rude. Got it.
Sounds like I will root for Udeh as much as I do Bryce Thompson…
-
The article recently released by the KC Star was kind of weird. His mom hinted he could redshirt and then transfer if things don’t go right. Also mentioned he was going to play the 4 at UCSB and get the offense built around him.

If things don’t go right we’ll be happy to see him transfer I think. Again, I don’t see him as a P5 guy without him putting in just a shit ton of work. I don’t think it is necessarily basketball skill holding him back as much as just not being athletic enough for this level of basketball. Only complete and total dedication to changing his body and how it moves will get him on the court at the P5 level.
-
@Kcmatt7 Agreed he has really slow feet and not real powerful or able to get off the floor. When he doesn’t hit some three’s to offset his defensive liabilities he’s a double negative.
Great practice body though to have and hopefully this helps him improve.
-
@BShark You can’t be serious. Dude was so fun loving on the bench always smiling and hamming it up even when he wasn’t playing big minutes.
That being said hope Hunter takes him to school twice this year
-
@BShark said in ZACH CLEMENCE COMING BACK?:
Is he though? If he was initially under the impression that Hunter was only going to be here for a year like most of us were, then it sounded like he was going to be willing to wait his turn. But when it started sounding more and more like it would be two years waiting behind Hunter, then Udeh changed his tune and I don’t blame him one bit for not wanting to wait until he’s senior year to start at Kansas while not really getting to play big minutes either.
-
I do not think Udeh is a snake. A lot of people in the kids ear. Give him a break.
By every other measure the guy was a great player for us a year ago and I really wish he was still on the roster.

I was getting a bit argumentative with crims. The truth is between how she was portraying him and a snake. I can see his point of view on the matter.

Parker is better than him right now and I think it’s kind of crazy that some people don’t realize that.
This is definitely his last chance at KU. Even redshirting he will need to do things the right way, and show improvement.
-
@BShark who doesnt realize it?
Edit: i take it back. Dont want to start controversy
-
@approxinfinity lol! I haven’t seen Parker play. Just heard his coach say he was more athletic than CB. I expected a lot more from Zach last yr. Something not right.
-
@BShark Parker is not better than Udeh. He can’t alter shots and make plays Udeh can because of Udeh’s size and athleticism.
I bet this year Udeh produces more than Braun
-
You know what I think is crazy ? - I think what’s really crazy is if these kids are so bad non talented not on KU level is then the KU Coaching Staff must be some real looney tunes , because they are the one’s who recruited these kids to KU in the 1st place. - -Now what the hell is wrong with that picture. Maybe we ought to have some people go switch places with the Staff - we wouldn’t lose a game

@BShark wasn’t claiming Parker is better than Udeh, he was comparing Parker to Clemence right now.
-
I have seen Parker play and it doesn’t surprise me that he is better than Zach at this point. Santa Clara was a good team and Parker was a significant contributor. He knows situational basketball and may not have Zach’s ceiling, but certainly should be able to be an asset in practice and games.

a little off the subject, but the man named Dick can show out, folks:
