Puerto Rico!
-
Is happening this summer. Bonus basketball!
-
Yay! I felt we were due for a summer trip.
-
Extra practice and game time to start getting the team on the same page.
-
Does this actually count as an international trip since passports aren’t needed for American born players?
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Puerto Rico is a US territory. Not international.

I’m fully aware of that, hence why I asked if this is considered an international trip since passports aren’t needed for the American born players.
-
You’d fly over the Caribbean Sea so yeah probs

Love it. Team will need some time to mesh.

From discoverpuertorico.com regarding passports:
“ Do I need a passport to visit Puerto Rico?
“United States citizens and permanent residents don’t need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands. However, the Real ID Act will be in effect as of May 2025, so verify if your state is compliant with these laws because otherwise, you may need a passport to travel. Travelers from other countries visiting Puerto Rico have the same visa and passport requirements that would apply if visiting the mainland United States.”

Any idea what the competition will be like? I recall Doke’s first year they played a couple ragtag teams in an Italian high school gym.

Usually not amazing.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Then obviously the answer to your question is no. Because they are not flying internationally.

I’m not talking about international trip in the regular sense, but in the eyes of the NCAA since teams can only do an international trip once every 4 years. Because Puerto Rico is a U.S. Territory, does the NCAA view this the once every 4 years international trip or not because that’s relevant.

-
@FarmerJayhawk Paywall.
-
@mayjay gaaaaahhh. The gist is we’re playing 3 games starting August 1. We get 10 practices in July to get ready. No info on streaming or anything yet.
-
@mayjay Open the link in private browsing mode (with the dark background on an iPhone, don’t know on android) then they can’t install the tracking link that cuts you off after your free views.
My issue is I have 500 tabs open. Apparently that’s all Apple allows. Lol it’s causing problems. I should probably shut the hundred or so instances of KUbuckets I have open!
-
@dylans @FarmerJayhawk Thanks!
-
Didn’t Bill have to tell Doke to quit hanging in the rim over in Europe? Lol

Yeah he was breaking their cheap rims.

KU’s August 3 game is finally getting close. The earlier announcements only mentioned radio coverage; has anyone heard anything about a video broadcast? Where in the hell is ESPN+ when we need some coverage?
-
@BShark was this also the time Doke got a nasty hush hush black eye and missed a game? Several pics w/ on!
-
Sign of things to come:
-
Self said that KU would be playing against the Bahamian national team for 2 of the 3 games in Puerto Rico. The Bahamian team will have some pretty big names present for the games, but TBD on if any of them will play against KU. The names that will be present at least are Klay and Mychal Thompson, DeAndre Ayton, Buddy Hield, and Eric Gordon.
If nothing else, I’m guessing thise guys can give some really good advice to KU’s players for the upcoming season and prepping for the NBA.
-
Any word or informed information on the starters for PR? I’m already tired of hearing Dickinson referenced with slow ball.
-
Anybody hear of tv listings or times?
-
Aug. 3, 5 and 7. Appeared on my calendar as, 11, 4 and 11. Pretty sure that means central time. Nothing on tv so far. Will be on Jayhawk radio. Oh boy!
-
Can you listen to Jayhawk radio over the internet for free?
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I think the internet 810 stream should work
-
Check out KUAthletics.com.
-
many thanks. I haven’t tried to listen to games over the radio in a long time. Last i tried, it was a pay feature (i think). appreciate it!
-
Also saw that KU could potentially play against Remy Martin as he’s also in Puerto Rico as part of the Bahamian team camp.
-
No tv sucks!
-
I’ve lost most if not all my enthusiasm for the PR trip. It seems like more of a team vacation or team bonding action, than an opportunity to get a solid jump start on the season. Now, I read somewhere that other college teams are doing the same thing and will also be there. I didn’t follow the tournament that Kentucky played in, but that seemed more like the jump start I was hoping for our guys.
-
I’m just disappointed it won’t be televised… Real bummer
-
Maybe tell us why it can’t be. We aren’t podunk U.

I don’t believe any of the games from KU’s past international trips have ever been televised either. Since all of the practice images show LU using the FIBA ball, I’m assuming FIBA rules are probably part of the reason why along with NCAA rules.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 The trip they represented the U.S. was televised for sure. Can’t forget Selden absolutely rocking rims on that trip.
Haven’t UK’s been televised? I feel like they have been but I could be wrong.

The World University Games was an international tournament, not some exhibition games like these. Also, no idea if UK has ever had their international trip games televised or not before.
-
One of the teams in PR looks really tuff if I read that correctly- Deandre Ayton, Buddy Hield, Eric Gordon, Klay Thompson, Kai Jones, Remy Martin.
-
In 2017 the KU-Italy games were streamed.
I remember finding a sketchy free link and watching at least one of the games.https://www2.kusports.com/news/2017/jul/06/all-four-kus-exhibition-games-italy-will-be-stream/
Bad memory. It was on “Flohoops” for 29.99
-
This is the first time since Self was here that I can recall KU games off the US mainland not being televised. It is probably because it’s an exhibition. They had a “secret” game with Illinois a year ago and that also had no media, IIRC.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Since Remy signed with the Iceland team days ago, maybe he won’t be available. Just a thought.
-
As an addendum…when I checked out KUAthletics site the games in Puerto Rico are shown on the schedule AND it does indicate that it will be broadcast on Jayhawk Radio. Maybe that’s all we are gonna get.
-
Listening to Brian Hanni and Greg Gurley on the radio is fun. Brian does a great and exciting play by play. I wish he did the games on TV. He is much better than the ESPN commentators. Try kuathletics.leanplayer.com It’s free. It reminds me of listening to games on radio when I was a kid.
-
@Hawk69 - does this link work for all season games, even if out-of-area?
-
@Gorilla72 it should
-
It works for me in Kentucky.
