No doubt we opened that door.
-
And that’s fine. I think our region is easier than the Midwest. Gotta earn it no matter what.

Every year we have the hardest bracket, the NCAA is out to punish us any way possible, there is not enough media respect for KU, etc etc etc. Y’all are certainly entertaining!
Bottom line: You play the game in front of you, one at a time. We only play 4 teams out of the 15 others in our bracket, and only 1 from the other half. Might win out, might not! Enjoy it!!!
The conspiracy lives!

The criteria that the committee use is completely selective from year to year
-
Knower of ball Jay Wright picked us to make the FF.

This is very frustrating for sure.

It’s whatever they want it to be. They lay out the criteria, then completely ignore it.
-
Used to be all about Quad 1 wins and SoS. This year, it’s about who’s injured, who’s coaching, and Quad 1 & 2 wins vs losses and how big the losses were.
-
I do think UConn is going to have its work cut out for them game 1. Who would want to face Rick Pitino with a week to prep? lol
-
I’m not even going to worry about UCLA at this point because there’s some really good teams we’d have potentially play before then. Also, UCLA without Jaylen Clark is a lot less scary than with him. Also potentially missing Adem Bona is a blow to their depth. At this point, I don’t think they get past Gonzaga.
I actually really like our draw for the most part, assuming McCullar can play. Arkansas is good enough to give KU issues, but they can’t shoot worth a damn. None of their current rotation guys are even at 35% from 3 so keep them out of the paint on defense and force them to beat you from deep.
Illinois depends on two ex-Big 12 players that KU is going to be very familiar with in Terrance Shannon and Matt Mayer.
UConn doesn’t scare me because they don’t have a PG and KU’s defense should be able to turn them over. Sanogo can cause issues for Kansas, but our backcourt should be able turn them over.
St. Mary’s is who concerns me the most in this half of the region because of their defense and snail’s pace of play. We don’t play well at half court, slow down games and they can do that to KU.
As for the bottom half of the bracket, Jaylen Clark and possibly Bona is a bog deal for UCLA. Jacquez and Wilson will put on a damn show if they do play because those are two of the 5 best players in college basketball this season.
Gonzaga doesn’t play much defense so KU should score and run with them.
We know TCU can give us fits since they did that twice including the blowout in AFH this season.

I thought that was hilarious. They come up with the NET to emphasize SoS then flatly ignore it. Well then the chair was like well akchually when you include Q2 Houston’s record was better. Like homie we didn’t play any Q2 games lmao
-
I honestly get madder the longer I think about it. Both KU and Houston got beat by Double digits in the championship game of their conference. 17 Quad one wins to 7. KU also lost to a top 10 w/o their head coach.
-

Jay Wright picked KU to repeat, not just reach the Final Four. Seth Davis also picked KU to reach Houston which shouldn’t be a shock because he’s one of the most pro Kansas analysts out there.
-
Maybe this will give us motivation, last time in KC we got super tight and failed.

And Houston was playing without their best player today.

Agree with everything you said except this one point about Gonzaga who can lock down when they want to. Gonzaga is under the radar. Perfect position for a well coached, veteran and athletic team.
-
We are not a pick your poison opponent this year. If the most dangerous person in basketball, Grad3y Dick, is put in maximum security each first half then we better have Kevin and our defense on high alert please.

Gonzaga’s defense is bad this year. Only Baylor has a worse ranked defense than Gonzaga among the top tournament teams.

I think the easiest paths to at least the E8 are two #2 seeds - Texas and Arizona…
-
Missouri getting Utah State is hysterical. Utah State is #18 Kenpom, Mizzou is #51.
Legitimate chance Utah State is the Vegas favorite when the lines are set lol.

Partly because they are both excellent teams. The elite 8 has a chance to be a selection of amazing games.

Both have 1 seed talent. Moreso than us and Purdon’t if I’m being honest.
-
@benshawks08 But they did put NCState with 1 quad 1 win in the the tournament. Wisconsin doesn’t deserve to play in the tournament until you look at the other teams that don’t deserve it but are playing anyways. Nevada, 4th in the mountain west and 4 of last 6 losses. Okie State should be playing too.
It’s rare I’m trying to make the case for one of my teams to make it but strange logic at work putting some of these teams in there.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 either way we got penalized for it, they did not
-
I do think Purdue’s got a tough road. 8/9 matchup is tough. Duke is hot right now and has the size they may actually be able to mess with Edey a bit. Filipowski is sort of his worst nightmare. Guy who is big enough to guard him, but can shoot and dribble around him.
But damn is that bottom of the Midwest bracket objectively easy. Worst 2 seed, worst 3 seed, worst 6 seed all in one bracket.
-
Arkansas, UConn, and if we get that far UCLA or Gonzaga in the West. Not thrilled with that but I’m confident in Bill and a healthy KU team against any team not named Texas.
Texas A&M being a 7 and Kentucky being a 6 is kind of weird.
B12 is 6-0 against the P12. OSU should have been in over ASU.

Ole Painty has one EE ever on his record. 0 FFs. Always bet against.

Easily the most boring potential matchup is San Diego State vs. Virginia in the 2nd round.

I’m glad KU isn’t playing in KC. What’s KU’s record in that building? I know it’s not great and KU has rarely played well there whether in December or March.

@Texas-Hawk-10 believe we have a 80% win in that building but we got tight last time.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 PG or not, UConn is the team I’m most worried about. They’ve only lost twice in the last 11 games - 2 pts to Marquette and 3 pts to Creighton. They’ve beaten Alabama, Marquette, Creighton, Providence, Iowa State, Okie State, Florida and Oregon.

Went back to 16-17, we’re 18-4 there. Not bad
-
Kenpom wise our bracket is nuts but I have talked myself into it. The craziest part is probably the #4 and #11 KP teams being our 4 and 5 seeds. #2 team being a 2 seed when they are missing players isn’t too crazy. #8 is our 3 seed. Arkansas and WVU being in the seed range they are isn’t surprising because both of those teams had a ton of losses.
-
KU’s bracket - based on Kenpom Rankings.
- 4th best #1 seed
- Best #2 Seed
- Best #3 Seed
- Best #4 Seed
- Best #5 Seed
- 3rd best #6 Seed
- 3rd best #7 Seed
- 2nd best #8 seed (one spot behind Memphis who is top)
- 4th best #9 seed
- 2nd best #10 seed
- #11 seed tbd
- 2nd best #12 Seed
- 2nd best #13 seed
- 2nd best #14 seed
- worst #15 seed
- 3rd best #16 seed
KU’s path is hard af.
-
@Jethro no clue how you do that. Too much heartbreak for me.
Odds we win it every year are better than most but it’s still not going to happen.
I’d admire your confidence just not sure it is logical
-
@Kcmatt7 Gonna tweet this banger. That’s nuts.

We play Thursday at 1pm CST on TBS. This pleases me greatly. I was going to mald if we got Friday night.
-
@BShark at least it’s not the 11 am game, I was hoping for a little later

@kuballin10 @kjayhawks I just hate the really late tip times. Perfect world maybe a bit later, just anything before those 9pm and later starts.

THIS IS THE WAY

Phew. Early Thursday games are the best. That way can enjoy the rest of the round in peace.
-
We have a tough Bracket , Arkansas & Illnois both decent teams but feel like they are no beter then teams from the Big 12 Texas , Baylor K/State.- I think if we can get Kevin Back , If Juan comes out with some purpose /intensity - -our defense could be a big lift.
The Sweet Sixteen/ Great Eight would be a challenge - St Marys or U Conn I think will be a Challenge — but could be worse. We just have to come out and be aggressive from the word go.
Rotation starting 5 -then Udeh - - Joe Keep Bobby on the dam bench-- don’t think you will see much if any MJ- just still seems lost – looks lik alot of 7 man rotation
-
Phew. I have work calls I can’t miss from 12-2 Eastern on Fridays so this is perfect.

That’s a potential Sweet 16 match up which means Self would have a minimum of 4 days to prep for a team without a PG. Not worried. UConn also has to deal with a Rick Pitino team with extended time to prep as well.
