@BShark low key I think Boyton is going to turn that OSU program into something to be feared again. I think if he can just have one good season the talent will just start rolling in for him. And then it may never stop.

I’ve been thinking that too but man…he may just not have it. I think Tang is similar to Boynton plus actual coaching acumen however.
-
@BShark It kills me, but Tang is elite. Has a lot of Bill’s coaching traits (great set plays, timely play calls, timeouts to kill momentum). Clearly can identify and land talent. He’s going to be a headache for as long as he’s in the B12.
-
@Kcmatt7 fwiw The OSU alums I know want him gone.
-
@dylans I would totally get why they’d want him gone. Especially in the day and age where you can turn around a program in 9 months (see Tang). But I also think he’s right on the cusp.
Maybe he needs an X’s and O’s assistant coach to get him over the hump.
-
Definitely needs an offensive coach that can perhaps change his style up a bit.
-
Yep we took a gamble and it looks like we won’t see any reward from it.
Chris Johnson is this years MJ. Perhaps not the same circumstances but Chris will likely have a hard time emotionally adjusting to Self if he hasn’t matured during his time at Montverde. That has been one of the main weaknesses pointed out by scouts etc. Bad habits tend to follow. We’ll see how he adjusts.
-
RUMOR: Bill wants a back to the basket big from the portal badly.
This has me in my feelings. @Kcmatt7 @BeddieKU23
-
I like Boynton, he needs to quit taking our leftovers. Wondering if they are matching our NIL for MJ?
-
I mean it’s part of his identity. He made lemonade with KJ this year when Zach crapped the bed and the young bigs weren’t ready.
His problem was keeping Cam Martin for absolutely zero reason. Bill won’t bat 1.00 all the time
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Money isn’t everything.
-
@BShark I thought it was to him
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Clearly he is very unhappy at Kansas. There are details I’d rather not repeat.

Should have tagged @drgnslayr He’s been banging that drum for a minute. Must have got in Bill’s ear.
-
I wouldn’t be thrilled either if I was hurt all year and saw another frosh at my position go lotto

Is that MJ’s destination ? - -I hadn’t heard. Okie State ? - - kind of weird , cause Boynton likes his boys to play tight rugged chest to chest defense - - I don’t think MJ understands the word Defense.

Wait ? - -What ?- thought that was the least of what we were looking for

Ya I’ve heard/read pretty much the same thing on Chris. - -Thinking dam WASH-- -RINSE— REPEAT .- just think this is part - -a huge part of some of these kids make up. and then they come to a place like here with Coach and they just can’t make that transition /adapt and it’s a bust. Hope for better results
-
MJ just had an unfortunate start to his career. I can’t blame him for being mad at Yesefu getting more minutes though.

Appears to fit the mold of what we are really going for with that open guard slot. Timberlake/Khalif Battle/HE WHO CAN NOT BE NAMED/Raequan Battle are all in a similar vein.
I need to watch tape but I think this kid would be third for me in this pecking order, ahead of Timberlake.
-
@BShark his defense really sticks out to me. Low/mid major guards who can hit 35% from 3 are a dime a dozen. This dude GUARDS. Former 4* recruit too so you know there’s some real talent there, not just a stiff with a good jumper
-
I think a big would be nice to help along the youngsters a Tarik Black type (ran into him at BWW the year he was here was, great guy). Watching other games we lack so much in speed and athleticism, Juan makes up for it most the time with brains and defense. But out guys aren’t out jumping or beating anyone in a foot race.

Oh man. I’d kill for Raequan Battle. I think he who shall not be named would be a stud, but RB would be a close second.
-
@FarmerJayhawk He also can just turn into a microwave. This team desperately needs a guy who can put the team on his back for stretches. Only issue with him is that the ball is a little sticky. Not usually a problem for guys in Self’s system. If you don’t swing the ball you don’t play.
-
@Kcmatt7 agreed. Self will beat it out of him if necessary. That team with the Stanford two plus possibly Udeh is a MENACE defensively as well with all the length
-
Think we like Khalif Battle a lot. That one has the potential to get messy though based on what happened with him at Temple.
-
Visit is being set up per Swain. BOOM.
-
@BShark Battle?
-
-
His Temple stats aren’t overwhelming. The way it ended kind of implied he quit on Temple, tho he denied it. Had a broken foot last year…why the love?

We need someone that can really shoot and create his own offense. I think he’s option 1, ahead of the mystery guard. We will see…
-
@mayjay idk, he’s down the board a ways for me. More of a microwave role guy ¯_(ツ)_/¯
-
Possible 3 years from one discussion if he gets a med redshirt. That might be an important point to HCBS.
-
@mayjay that would be ideal. Bench year 1, start years 2-3.
-

Don’t think he’s coming here to come off the bench lol.
I’m with you though he’s like third on my board for that spot based on the known guys. Behind the other Battle and the Mystery guard. Ahead of Timberlake. I adjusted this after doing more research. I fell in love with him for a minute earlier lol.
-
Another concern for me is he was hurt two years in a row. Apparently healthy this year but quit on the team. Not great but maybe Self thinks he can fix him.
-
@BShark What is the fix success rate here at KU?
-
@mayjay said in Transfer Rumblings:

Uhhh
Malik Newman we count I think.
Trying to think of other clear attitude problem guys we have taken on.
-
@BShark my concerns as well. Can’t stay healthy and had issues at Temple last year. When he’s on he’s good but we can’t rely on hope that he stays healthy. As a bench guy sure. But not to start more games next year than he has his entire career
-

Gotta imagine the in person visit will be a big key here.

Dedric Lawson was a pretty messy divorce from Memphis if I recall.

How many of these texa$$ guys are headed to the nba?

None, but they are going to lose Allen, Bishop, Carr, and Rice to eligibility.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah I’d count the Lawsons good call.
-
It’s interesting how much the Texas money train doesn’t want Rodney to stay. I will say it’s hard to gauge from a stand point of him not building this talented team.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 - so UT is losing 63 of last night’s 83 points to eligibility. Should be tough on a new coach…

It’ll probably be more points than that if the interim tag isn’t removed from Terry too.
-
Reading what Temple fans have to say, I want no part of this kid. We’ve had a great culture and the last thing we need is a potential headache that’s an upperclassmen. Just my two cents.
Now if he’s the 4th transfer perhaps he’s worth taking a shot on but i’ll leave it to the staff to make the right moves here. We will see if he visits and what the staff feels about his last situation which clearly did not end on the best of terms. His film certainly pops as a scorer. We need scoring among other things. He certainly looked capable of getting his own shot, another need.

Last time we had an upper-classman malcontent was 2018-19 and was a homegrown one in Lagerald Vick. That team also had Dedric Lawson who worked out well and Quentin Grimes who while not a malcontent, had his own issues. KU also lost 10 games that year. With KU likely being one of the younger teams in the country next year, at least half the roster will be 1st or 2nd year players, I would avoid someone who potentially has significant character flaws next season.
