@Texas-Hawk-10 that I’d be curious because reynolds pers you should like
Reynolds also can score on the block
It all depends on udeh’s off-season progression. He develops moves and better shot blocking he will be tough to keep off the floor
That big lineup is gonna be crazy. KJ showed when he was in foul trouble against Arkansas we sucked on O.
His PER is a big a part of why I’d be interested in him, but Reynolds would definitely be a fallback option for me. His numbers would likely take a hit moving up from average/bad AAC teams and he also has a history of injuries having missed significant time in 2 of his 3 seasons. He’s also not a great defender so that step up in competition would likely turn him into a bad defender.
I’d obviously rather have Dickinson or Shedrick over Reynolds, but I don’t think Reynolds would be a bad option to have off the bench.

Michigan found a bigger bag for Caleb Love than Mizzou

oh man I was kinda looking forward to 2022 national championship game hero Caleb Love coming back to Lawrence

KU not on the most recent list for Sallis. Was happy to see that.

Swain’s recent article is very good. Paywalled, but I think Swain is worth it.

Aimaq to Cal to play for his old coach from Utah Valley.
-
Word is that Arkansas has reached out to 84 transfers so far lol.

Reynolds wouldn’t ruffle feathers. You could still get Ernest 15-20 minutes a game. Plus, Reynolds has 2 years. With Dickinson, It’s going to be Hunter 30+, and we only get him for one year. I still say you take Hunter, but I sure like that Reynolds kid. Reynolds is a very good back to the basket scorer- reminds me of Dave.

We can do better. Hopefully we do.

The biggest concern I have with Reynolds is durability. He’s missed time every season, and significant time in two seasons because of injuries. That’s the risk factor with Reynolds.
That said, I do like Reynolds, but health is a legitimate concern with him.

247 Sports has KU at the top of the list as the best destination and fit for Dickinson…
Kansas Jayhawks
When looking at Kansas’ fit for Hunter Dickinson, one only needs to mention two words: “David McCormack.”
The Jayhawks fed the post in McCormack’s two seasons as Kansas’ primary starter. McCormack ranked in the 100th percentile for percentage of possessions used in post-ups as a junior, then in the 97th percentile of the same category when Kansas won the National Championship in 2022, per Synergy.
Dickinson is a more talented and efficient post-up scorer than McCormack was. Also, his ability to pop and shoot (he made 42.1% of his 3-pointers this year) adds some variety to Kansas’ pick-and-roll game.
Kansas has a pass-first point guard in Dajuan Harris who could get the most out of Dickinson offensively and there’s no doubt that Bill Self could get the most out of Dickinson on defense. When the Jayhawks struggled defensively with McCormack at the five in 2020-21, Self tweaked the depth of McCormack’s drop which helped turn Kansas into a top 10 defense for the final month and a half of the season.
The need is there for the Jayhawks, too. Without a traditional center, Kansas had just 108 post-up possessions last year, with half of those going to power forward Jalen Wilson. KJ Adams had just 22 of those post-ups, a staggeringly low number when compared to the post-ups of the Jayhawks’ primary center from the last three seasons — Udoka Azubuike (202 post-ups) and McCormack (244, 209).
Make no mistake: Self wants to feed the post. And, currently, he doesn’t have a player like Dickinson (or for that matter, McCormack) who he can feed with that kind of volume. Schematically, it’s a hand-in-glove fit.

Well was just reading on lil sisters board. - -They was talking about Cryer - I guess they were talking to some Baylor and they brought up the fact about how even though Tang was the main recruiter for Cryer to Baylor about how Cryer and Tang having a shaky relationship.
Right now Cryer has his visit to Houston - -has a visit set up with K/State next week and is possibly trying to set up a visit with KU. Cryer says even though he has other schools reaching out At this point he is looking to stay in the Big 12. - - So would we take him?- -I think we would - however I think I’ve heard Houston probly

You follow this stuff as closely as anyone. There obviously have been a lot of commits already. What is the timing for us? What are the key dominoes that need to fall and in what order? It seems that Dickinson is priority number one, but that shouldn’t affect getting a scoring wing or two, or a big scoring guard? We need someone who can makes 3s and someone who can create their own shot. Ingram is in the portal now. I think we are in hard on Timberlake? Are there others? Does some of this depend on what McCullar ends up doing?

Swain said we are not recruiting Ingram because he isn’t athletic enough. I have no reason to not believe him.
The Timberlake kid that just visited is a big piece. The staff wants him. Hopefully he doesn’t take the UConn visit. If they miss on him, I suspect it’s on to Primo Spears.
If they miss on Dickinson (increasingly more likely) it should be on to Jackson Mahomes errr I mean Kadin Shedrick.
Should see some more movement next week. Lining up visits that kind of thing.
-
@BShark we do not like anything of what you just said.
-
Well just as a casual joe blow bystander fan - -at this point it REALLY doesn’t look like KU is in serious contention for ANY of the current players that’s been mentioned .
Ingram is not a factor - - - - Jones from Stanford turned out to be nothing - - - - Kevin I think will stick in with the NBA - been mentioned might be able to work a 2 way deal- - - - Dude from Virginia from what I hear-most likely going to Duke- - - - Cryer headed to Houston - - - - Just not really feeling Timberlake at this point - - - - - Dickinson Think he ends up on the east Coast - either Maryland or G Town .Is he scheduled for a visit here to KU , anyone know ?- - - - Reynolds is out - - - -
Soooo who’s next up ? - - -Spears ?
-
Yeah i just saw a tweet saying Cryer to Houston. Could really use some good news soon.

All very disconcerting. I thought we were in good shape with likely transfers. Who is in play now that can meaningfully contribute? Who are the wings that can knock down 3s, defend, and create their own shots? Not a Georgetown cast-off I hope?

We were barely linked with Remy/McCullar before they committed in May. Neither visited KU that I remember but I could be wrong on that. I remember not hearing about Xavier Pinson (didnt choose KU obvs) until he announced a top 2 of LSU and KU. It can be frustrating but this is how this coaching staff operates.
-
If we end up with worse players than some of the guys the staff passed on, then there could be an interesting discussion worth having. Personally I do think Ingram is good enough, but I ain’t coach Self (thank god lol).
-
@BShark I think Self has that one eyed well I’m not feeling Ingram.
If we miss on Dickinson and don’t get some Sanogo miracle and end up with Shedrick that’s not too shabby.
Then it comes down to what wings and/or combo guard we get to determine how well Self did

Agree. I’ll give final thoughts/grades when the roster is settled. Probably won’t be until mid May at best.
Memphis believes they are well positioned for Sanogo if he portals.

Bobby down to FSU, Georgetown and ECU. Would envision him staying close to home. I think he was interested in NC State, clearly they were not.

Shedrick visited Duke. I think he is a plan C/D type for them based on what their 247 writer said.
-
Yeah looks like we aren’t going after Shedrick. He is scheduling visits to Texas, Missouri, KSU and Xavier.

I’m totally prepared to be blindsided by names I don’t know currently for our additions and Bill to get another 1 or 2 seed.

While you have to make a run at a Dickinson, a big isn’t our primary need. With progression from Udeh and Ejiofor, and KJ, we are in decent shape. But, we need to replace JWill, Kevin and Gradey. We have zilch right now. Is there anyone out there at this point who we are in on and have a chance at who comes close to matching their production? That’s 45+ points per game. Even if our current bigs pick up some slack, it won’t be much. And Juan isn’t going to turn into a scorer. Our freshman - maybe 10-12 ppg combined?
-
This post is honestly just to make myself feel better about the portal.
In 2022 these players entered the portal these dates:
- Pete Nance - 4/29
- Keion Brooks - 4/29
- Keyontae Johnson - 5/1
- Matthew Mayer - 5/2
- Jamille Reynolds - 5/6
- Kevin McCullar 4/27
- De’Vion Harmon - 4/26
- KC Ndefo - 4/26
- Baylor Scheierman - 4/24
- Jaren Holmes - 4/23
- Ricky Council - 4/21
- Tre Mitchell 4/20
- Tyrese Hunter - 4/18
- Primo Spears - 4/18
- Tyler Harris 4/16
- Emoni Bates - 4/16
- Grant Sherifeld - 4/14
- Kendric Davis - 4/11
So there is some talent still to hit the portal that we haven’t even heard a peep about. We’ll know the talent pool by May 11th which is the deadline to enter the portal. So essentially one more month of backchanneling.

You can write off Georgetown for Bob, I reckon.
-
Well sure looks like if he has any say Kyle wants to remain here for sure. If he didn’t he would of entered by now I would think for sure. I know he has a GF here.
Therre was something from another team board can’t remember but stated how KU and another team believe it was Texas Tech had set the standard for the league dealing with NIL. - Something to the effect tht every player for KU was employed in an NIL for 25,000 - -can that be right ?
-

@BShark Lmaoo I been seeing everything I don’t think we’re fucked but it annoys me that the name Kansas doesn’t hold as much weight as Kentucky or Duke and we have to wait so long for commitments. Like why wouldn’t you want to play for an offensive hall of fame guru and play in front packed fans in the fieldhouse that will rally around you for the win plus NLI. But we still get second guessed like Do kids not want Rings and Wins. But do think we need 2 wings and a big idk about guard but Coach want a guard.Marcus Adams Jr the only offensive wing with game but he is a freshman and injuries or a guy not being ready happens we legit have no wings but him and KJ but unless KJ can knock down a 3 he isn’t a true wing he is an athletic baby Draymond. We are loaded at Guards with the freshman I think all them can go right away and be a upgrade over the garbage bench we just had.
And I heard you say Coach Self said Ingram wasn’t athletic enough well JWill definitely couldn’t dunk but could rebound and bang with anyone.I think Ingram does that with even better passing then JWill.
This whole transfer portal is wonky with what we want and need to what’s available to us.
-
Bobby to East Carolina.

That’s frightening if it is the best we can do and I hope you are wrong. Smallish lead guard who doesn’t do anything particularly well on a team that went 7-25. 40% shooter; 30% from 3; 3.3 TOs per game. Inefficient and not a great defender. Worse than Juan in virtually every respect other than jacking it up more often. Well, that’s not quite fair - he is much better from the FT line, so that is something…
Seriously, that’s our lead play in the portal? What is he the answer to?

A big part of Primo’s shooting numbers being what there were was just how bad Georgetown was last season. Primo was asked to do everything for them last season and hurt his numbers. Playing him on a better team where he doesn’t have to take 16 shots per game will help those numbers. That doesn’t mean he’ll turn into an elite shooter, because that’s not his strength. A bump to 47-48% from two and 33-34% from three do seem plausible with better shot selection. Spears also had a 30% assist rate last season which was close to Dajuan’s 31.1% assist rate.
His defense is concerning, but he played over 37 mpg last season so I feel like part of his issues on defense were related to how many minutes he played. While he probably won’t ever be an all-conference caliber defender, I think he could be passable if he’s playing closer to 30 mpg and not having to conserve energy due to being the top scoring option.
I think Primo would overall be a good fit here if he’s willing to play off ball and be the 2nd or 3rd scoring option.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 He can really shoot it off the bounce…has some frankesque to his game
-
Not a guy you’d want to headline the group but Spears is a fine player. He can create for himself off the bounce which isn’t something we have had lately other than Remy.
