2022 Transfer Portal Thread

I’m a huge Bob fan, think he plays. I’d still like a good third small guard if we can swing it.
-
@BShark said in 2022 Transfer Portal Thread:
@benshawks08 Very sure. There is no scoring punch in those 3 (Joe scored off very high volume in a stretch where Drake had no one else). Could see Joe leaving after we bring in another small guard.
The only reason I see Joe staying is that he can either sit a year somewhere else to keep eligibility vs. getting at least a little bit of run here. Then he can transfer after next season as a grad transfer.
He’s in a really tough spot and I feel bad for the guy. I think he is a better player than he got the chance to show. KU is just a tough place to play. Bill Self is not for everyone.
At the same time it might not be up to Joe. I don’t know that Bill wants to carry 4 small guards.

#biddingwar
Transfer big Johnni Broome named his Top 8
Auburn, Duke, Florida, Gonzaga, Houston, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis
-
@BeddieKU23 That top 8 do seem like the most likely to want to drop some cash on a player! Though if I were him I’d have replaced Houston with Arkansas for max $$$
-
Arkansas signed 3 portal bigs already
-
@BeddieKU23 What’s one more…
-
I hear Bacot is returning to UNC next year.
-
Love & Davis also may return. Not unprecedented for UNC to have this happen. All 3 are fringe NBA guys right now
-

Somehow always the best at recruiting guys who are great CBB players but not NBA players.
-
Ah yes, the classic lose to Kansas in the FF, all guys return for the revenge tour. Worked well last time for UNC in 09.
-
@Gorilla72 That’d drive me nuts if I was in the ACC and had to watch him foul all the time and get away with it.
-
Official Bacot coming back for his Senior year. He’ll be a preseason favorite for all the awards
-
@BeddieKU23 Any chance he enters the portal and comes to Kansas? I think I’d take him. Would definitely like him more if he did that…He did talk about liking playing for Bill in the under 18 game. lol.
-
We definitely can dream but I’d put the chance at 0.00%. Agree he’d be perfect here
-
@BeddieKU23 It would be a very Lebron, “taking my talents to south beach” type moment when he announced his move to Kansas.

Was just gonna say about the scoring. If this is Davis from SMU we are talking here, if there is a possibility of him coming here - -then you go head 1st, like 19.4 ppg and I think over it was like 4.3 assists per right ? - -and on top of that right at 37 or a hair over shooting the three. You HAVE to go after someone like that if he is showing interest in you- -which I’ve he is very interested not even a question about it - -!00 % take

@BShark I just know Self said Bobby is going to be a special player at Kansas. That is SUCH high praise from him I just don’t see how he doesn’t see big minutes next year. Add the point guard that led Kansas to a title who will definitely play 30+ and you’ve got a bunch of minutes in the back court accounted for. I still believe Yes is going to play too. He showed small bursts of what he could be and it was fun. I’d like to see more of that, personally.
I think and heard a pretty good chance when it’s all said and done - -Joe , is another very likely transfer. - - -If Davis DOES indeed come so then you have lot’s of floor time experience , established scorer. - -and as you said Bobby will be playing more add him with Juan - Joe get’s squeezed

Former Dooley playa Tristen Newton headed to Uconn

Samuel Williamson transferring to SMU

Better level for him.
-
Fun story for those that may not know, plus it’s been awhile.
KU had been recruiting Sam Williamson for awhile. When he was basically unranked and his other offers were Incarnate Word, Abilene Christian etc because he was a KU legacy. At the time this story happened, Sam was a 4* recruit, top 40 range and CB was #182 (lol). CB pops up on KU’s radar in late August (KSU thought they had a real shot at him in mid August). They bring him in for an unofficial visit on August 30th (the day before Sam’s visit) and Bill loves what he sees, offers on the spot. Sam comes in the next day with his parents and his mom is not happy about the offer to another kid at the same position. Bill asks for a commitment from Sam or KU is moving on because they had a kid they really like ready to commit (CB).

Oh lord I remember some good meltdowns when we took CB over Sam. KSU recruited Braun way harder than anyone which makes it even more funny
-
@FarmerJayhawk Love CB taking that KSU OV to get wined and dined with no intention to go there.
Mentioned this on 247 recently but Tonto was my favorite. Got douchey with me when we first offered about how Sam wasn’t good enough (due to other offers) then also blew up slamming Self when the situation with his mom went down.

Check out some of his more recent work. Not only was he really bad at hoops evals, he went full covid truther lol https://247sports.com/college/kansas/user/tonto22/

@FarmerJayhawk Long line as expected. He’s a game changer. Hopefully Jank had some kind words about Bill lol.
-
I wouldn’t expect much to come out on KU targets. They’re playing this really close to the vest

Yea I’m guessing we don’t want to scare anyone out the door until we’ve got someone in the bag.
Looking at KJ and Yes specifically. Definitely guys you want on your roster unless you are landing an obvious upgrade.
-
I think its a great area to live in. I think KU does a good job here too (Dave being a great example).

Work in silence basically. Remember last year we barely heard about KU being linked with guys we ended up snagging. Bill will get some guys, I have no doubt.
-
Davis would be a homerun get. Proven 4 year player at multiple places (he already had Big-12 experience). Can’t imagine anyone else has a bigger and better pitch then we got right now. I would be surprised if we weren’t in this.
-
KU will have 3 enter the portal.
-
@BShark cuffe, Martin and
-
Yes or Bobby?
-
Bobby isn’t going anywhere.
-
I’ll post more after announcements. Early next week most likely.
-
Cuffe cam and yes would be my guess

2 out of 3 ain’t bad (assuming my intel is correct).
I think in most cases a kid in Joe’s situation would transfer but he genuinely seems to love it here and doesn’t mind the bench role.
-
I suspect we will have 2 waves of exits. My guess… 2 at a time. 4 total. Just a hunch. I figure my hunches are right about 40% of the time. lol
And I don’t expect we will fill our scholarship card because Self sees more value that way unless he sees a potential problem with a player.

4 counting going pro early? I’d go 4-5 for sure in that case. I think getting one of CB/JWill back would be a big win.
-
My vibe is 4 in the transfer portal alone. I imagine Self has a lot of talent to consider in the portal and can better build a lineup to make us compete for another title next year.
I definitely feel we will snag at least one breathtaking catch like we did last year with Remy.
-
@BShark any young man that loves his school and puts the team first is a keeper in my eyes. Hope Joe sticks around

Agree.
At worst a great practice player.
-
Cam really does NOT want to leave. This could get interesting…
-
The change in transfer rules has really changed my feeling about departures. We can afford to lose guys like KJ more now. It makes it easier to just wish him the absolute best if he leaves, because if he becomes a starter and a stud somewhere else then he chose wisely. Id love to see him 4 years in crimson and blue, but Id also love to see him become a beast at a place where he gets extended run.
-
-
Needs for next year: shooting
Not sure any of KU’s rumored portal departures fit that role. So I’d guess Self takes on two guardish shooters at least.
One to start, one off the bench.

The Rumpers are in a tizzy- they think Drew Timme wants to transfer to "Tucky. They’re already proclaiming they’ll win the NC next year:

I imagine Yesufu enters the portal soon. He loves it at KU, and can play at this level, but he’s not going to get the chance to really show what he can do. If he did hit the portal, I think there would be a ton of schools interested. He would be an immediate upgrade for most programs either as a starter or first man off the bench.
The portal is really about finding the right fit. Guys come in wanting to be one type of player, but end up not getting that opportunity, or getting bypassed, or hurt, or struggling on the court or academically, and the portal gives them a chance for a reset. I’m glad it exists, honestly. I had a friend (non-athlete) that went to three different schools before he found the right one, graduated, and moved into a good career. I think athletes having that same chance is a great thing, and makes coaches accountable for the things they promise.
