I’ve always considered Howard to be a pretty likable guy and a decent coach. Maybe he is, but I doubt anyone’s going to be shaking his hand for a while. Such a weird escalation over basically nothing in the grand scheme of things.
-
Baylor’s in a close game with Oklahoma St. coming down the stretch, only up 4 with 7 minutes left.
-
Watching, osu fan!

Home team wins!

-
3 for sure, Oregon may have put themselves in or around the bubble for now with the home win against UCLA last night. They will have to get a few more decent wins to have a chance it looks.
-
@BeddieKU23 Phil Knight will make sure of it, imho.

Nike money you say? We miss @jaybate-1-0

Purdue showing what makes them vulnerable early in March. If you can get enough stops and make the game fast you can get easy buckets all game.
But it is easier said than done to get stops

Sparty popping Purdew…Tucky getting handled by the Hogs…could be a really crazy day!

Anybody watching texass/wv game? Texass had Cunningham ejected for flagrant 2 foul, Fran disagreed! They just had another hard foul, but it was flagrant 1. Beard coaching? I thought their game vs us was the worst called this season. I thought they killed dave. Hope Fran goes to the sec with beard!
-
Close game, but the “superior athletes “ of Kensucky just lost to the not-so-superior team of Arkansas
-
That TY TY 3 point bankshot just made a bunch of bettors a lot of money. Arkansas was -2.5, and they end up winning by 2.
-
@Bosthawk Notae was awesome. Both ends of the floor. Williams was able to neutralize Oscar on the defensive end by pulling him away from the rim.
Arkansas is a good team
-
Mercy Oscar is a fricken Man last time I checked he had 26 points and 15 rebounds that’s nuts
-
TCU has a good shot here to do us a huge favor
-

Well, here we are, the start of conference tournament week for the mid-majors. After looking thru the standings I’m surprised at the number of teams that have made huge turnarounds from last season.
The most notable example is Towson in the Colonial. From 4 and 14 last year to 23 and 7 this year (14 and 3 in conference play ) with a respectable KenPom ranking of #63.
Here are some other comeback teams with their records last season vs. this season, in order of ranking. (One caveat: Some of these schools had multiple games cancelled last year due to the coronavirus.)
Wyoming (Mountain West) - 14-11 to 23-5 (12-3 in conference play). (#46 KenPom) Long Beach State (Big West) - 6-12 to 16-11 (10-3) . (#143) Cal State Fullerton (Big West) - 6-10 to 17-9 (10-3). (#149) Longwood (Big South) - 12-17 to 23-6 (15-1). (#158) Troy (Sun Belt) - 12-16 to 19-10 (10-6). (#173) Samford (Southern) - 6-13 to 20-10 (10-8). (#188) Purdue-Fort Wayne (Horizon) - 6-14 to 20-10 (15-6) (#228) Texas A&M Corpus Christi (Southland) - 5-19 to 19-10 (6-6). (#253)
And even though it’s not exactly a mid-major, a shout out to Middle Tennessee of Conference USA. Picked to finish last in their division, they went from 5-18 to 22-7 (13-3 conference). (#97). Credit where credit is due.
Not impossible that KU could draw one of these teams in the first or even second round (if they survive their conference tourneys, of course).
-
4 Leagues start their tourneys tonight : The Patriot - -The I beleive it’s called the Atlantic Sun - - The Horizon - & The NEC – it’s about that time - -time to get things in order, you better have it in order by now- - -Now is not the time to tinker with lineups anymore- -you better be set
-
A lot of those midmajors benefitted from being able to bring guys back for an additional year. Veteran leadership means a lot at the midmajor level, where freshmen usually don’t come in ready to play tons of minutes. Bringing back experience can help quite a bit, and if you bring back guys that opted out last year, even better.
Last year was a throwaway year for some programs due to COVID, opt outs, injuries, etc. It’s nice to see several teams bounce back.
-
@justanotherfan Good point. I didn’t go that deeply into the roster of each team on the list, but Towson does have a few seniors/grad students who got that extra year of eligibility. Lots of transfers too.
-
Speaking of Towson, they just beat Delaware today to go 24-7. They tied for the conference title and have the #1 seed in the CAA tournament this weekend.
By the way, their turnaround echoes one they made almost a decade ago when they went from 1-31 to 18-13 in 2013, an all-time Division I record. Unfortunately they couldn’t play in the postseason that year due to NCAA academic sanctions.
-
Soooo is Chris Beard going to help us tonight or lose on purpose?
-
@BeddieKU23 I’m guessing he’s not a Scott drew fan
-
The ending of the UNC Cuse game is wild. Caleb Love hit a NBA 3 to go up 2, then UNC doesn’t really get back on D and Joe Girard hits a jumper to tie it. Going to OT.
Also, #fireHubert
-
@BeddieKU23 tough D!
-
Yupp Texas sucks
-
Thanks Beard, your good for nothing. Go to the SEC
-
@BeddieKU23 Let’s send him there with an L

Probably can send him there with a few. no idea when they are leaving
-
@BeddieKU23 word around here is that Texas has the money to leave now but Oklahoma doesn’t. Radio folks here have been wondering if it’s worth it for Texas to just pay OUs way out too.

This is what they talk about to avoid talking about basketball in this town.
-
Actually, the game looked a bit like ours at first. Texas didn’t have such a huge lead, but played pretty evenly until just a few minutes left. Then UT missed some shots, had awkward turnovers, and Baylor cashed in.
Early in the game I thought Texas did a better job than we did of staying in front of B’s guards on defense. When B was missing we did great, but once their shots started falling we did not adjust well and failed to keep their speed in check.
-
@mayjay Baylor guards have been making plays at the end of the game. There were a few that were eerily similar in the Texas game vs the KU game. Texas playing decent d and a guy just rising up and making a tough shot. Not much you can do but tip your hat and think about why you weren’t up by more earlier. We had some guys doing that early in the year. Here’s hoping that comes back this month.
-
I thought Texas did better hedging those high ball screens and were able to disrupt flow a lot better then KU did against them.
