I’m good with Collins too off the bench. But Williams fits a need and seems like the type of player to fit with Self. Very active on D.

And he was only a freshman this season. I’m sure everyone wants him though.

@KirkIsMyHinrich Just gonna mention the timing is interesting here. Shortly after the Bryce news, and the transfer caught the Wyoming coaches off guard.
And of course as mentioned, Adidas kid which is not to be undersold here as Yesufu and Bobby are Adidas all the way as well.

It would certainly be a nice player to get, because we would probably have him for multiple years. Him being Adidas makes me think KU has a shot.

Veciene’s take over at The Athletic, “He’s a terrific athlete who can create a shot from all three levels. More of an adept shooter than a truly good one, that will be the biggest growth area for him as he continues his development. If he can lock down that skill, he should turn into a legitimate high-major all-conference player. NBA scouts reached out early in the season with some interest, too, after averaging nearly 20 points and six assists in his first five collegiate games. With four years left in his eligibility, he’s one of the more valuable players available now. He’ll have interest across the country.”

@FarmerJayhawk if garrett comes back there are going to be a lot of disappointed players on the team. Self is putting together the equivalent of 2 rosters but will most likely only play half of it. The other half of the roster is going to be in shock when they figure it out

I get that guys go pro for different reasons, but there is not one reputable draft expert that has Ochai even getting drafted. Chad Ford just released his top 65 prospects and he nor Wilson were listed. It just seems insane to me that he is going to go to the combine ( if he gets invited) and be told he will not be drafted and keep his name in.

@Woodrow Yeah I know and I’d rather have him back but I’ve been told to expect that Ochai will leave and Jalen will be back. Will be interesting to see how things shake out.

I hear you. But to be fair, playing Garrett isn’t the reason we didn’t have scoring. There wasn’t another option on the roster. This year’s team was missing a lot of pieces. Its just hard to keep up when you see the rest of the team getting knocked for their (lack of) defense - i.e. Wilson, but are also presumably happy to see a defensive player of the year caliber starter move on.
I like to call last year’s roster “oops all wings”.
Nice. I’d like to call them “not-so-spicy-wings” or “I’ve had better wings.”
Or maybe “All wings, no flight”.

@BShark I don’t want someone who progressively got worse every season. Collins is an offensive black hole at the mid major level and would be a waste of a scholarship at KU.
Collins is a high volume shooter who can’t shoot and KU can doicj better than David Collins.

If Ochai gets the feedback that he likely wouldn’t improve his draft stock coming back, like what happened with Selden after his junior year, then Ochai leaving is the right decision.

Gut says Texas. There’s significant pressure from his circle to stay home though.

I really don’t see Christian Bishop being a good fit on KU next season. He’d likely be a 4 instead of a 5 here, but he’s got no outside game and would have to play near the basket next to McCormack and we’ve seen how much the offense struggled when Doke was the other big with Dave and Bishop is nowhere near Doke.
Christian Bishop is a very good player, but I just don’t see Kansas being the place where he’d be able to excel and think he would actuallake the offense worse. You have to have a 4 that can stretch the floor playing next to Save and that’s not Bishop.
Defensively, Bishop is a huge upgrade over Wilson and Clemence so he makes sense on that end of the floor, but I think the offense suffers too much to overcome his defense.

KU is saying he’d be Jalen’s backup. He could play beside Martin or at the 5 but I agree with Tex, can’t play Bishop and Dave together.

There’s a whole lot of “it’s probably Kansas” but this whole thing has a weird feel to it. Like @Texas-Hawk-10 and others have mentioned it’s not a great fit but if he loves KU enough to come here and be a bench piece that’s pretty cool.
@BeddieKU23 I’m still skeptical personally given the interest in Collins but apparently Ochai is somewhat likely to come back according to Chasen and Bossi. Sounds like we won’t see a decision on that or Garrett (though Garrett is very likely gone) for awhile yet.

He’s not a bad player but we are talking about Duke here. Thought he would end up in the Big East or possibly a lower level ACC school.

They did take Goldwire who was like a #300 ranked recruit. Blakes is considerably better then him coming in, if he goes there. But yeah not used to seeing it
