Oh how I hate Kansas State.

  • @kjayhawks You LISTEN to Fran ? - - I’m sorry bud

  • It’s alright we had plenty of good shots not fall that normally would.

  • @Zabudda said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:

We played hard until the end and they had 13 threes and 4 or so were BS makes. Not our day and it hurts a because it’s K-State.

I don’t think we played super hard imo, they got about 85% of the 50-50 balls. We let up 50% shooting from the floor, that won’t win games on the road.

  • When we had those games where we held teams to 20 per half it was because we brought defense… enough that it disrupted their flow and they then couldn’t hit wide open 3s. That’s not what I saw today. We came soft, we left soft.

  • @SlimShaddy54 haha sparingly but it’s a fair question we come out with zero energy or bounce in our steps almost every game this season.

  • @drgnslayr this team is arguably the softest of the Self era. The last two seasons will be less than .500 on the road

  • God forbid we should ever match KSUs enthusiasm for our games…

  • We rank 352/364 teams in Free Throws Attempted per game.

We rank 271/364 teams in 3 Pointers Attempted per game.

And we are not a particularly good 3pt shooting team or free throw shooting team. The offense is just not very good. It is what it is.

  • @drgnslayr said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:

God forbid we should ever match KSUs enthusiasm for our games…

That’s my biggest issue there is zero fight or willingness to be at the game most nights. Just show up and what happens happens

  • @kjayhawks said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:

My question is for all the Self homers, Fran was talking about how KSU was ready to play and we weren’t yet again. Isn’t it a job of the coaches to get the players ready to go?

This isn’t 100% Self. I have been very uninspired by the advanced scouting by the assistants and transfer market/high school scouting.

There needs to be changes on the bench after the season. Norm Roberts for sure I think should be replaced because he’s never been a strong recruiter, and after his stint as interim coach in 2023, I don’t think he should be retained. I’m also not fully sold on Jeremy Case as an assistant coach at this point.

  • Last time we lost 3 years in a row @Kstate, I was in high school. It was the Ted Owens era.

And what I hate to think about is that the last time we won there was the year we won the National Championship… and does anyone remember that game? I think we were down by 25 at one point.

It could so easily be the 4th year in a row that we’ve lost there.

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich

It’s built to run through Hunter but he’s out on the trey line hoisting up bricks. But it finally paid off, he hit his first 3! Lol

  • @kjayhawks plenty of blame to place all over. Like Seth Greenburg said earlier in the week we have a 7’2 Center that needs to plant his ass don’t low and stay the F - - - there dominate, and yet he thinks he is Steph Curry shooting three’s , w have guys that can’t even run down the floor without tripping over themselves and falling repeatedly, we have guys that if you say play some defense they will ask you if they can take a minute and look that word up in websters so they know what we mean. K/State close to half the time was taking whatever they wanted, like taking candy from a baby.

  • @drgnslayr said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:

It is designed with Hunter in mind, and I would prefer him down low, but it isn’t like we have a lot of other options. We have too many non-shooters on the team.

  • @kjayhawks

Yeah I was talking more about the end. Storr and Rylan our gel guys had an off night from three 2/11 and are still not there or here or somewhere but it was just a bad shooting game but Storr made nice things happen.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I agree 100% buddy

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 100%! Only problem is Self values seniority in his coaches like he does his players.

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich

Hunter missed a bunch of close in. When you get a good look and it fizzles it hurts plus they can get out and run.

  • @drgnslayr I truly think that for some reason when it comes to K/State for some reason I think there are guys on this team that really feels that we are just BETTER and we can take over when ever and have such a non cholent approach it’s really pathetic bottom line is this is just a very average team, can be fairly good but then times where we are just butt ugly

  • @Zabudda said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:

Hunter was 8/16 with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Offensively, he is not the problem.

  • @SlimShaddy54 I think we have players that think that regardless who we play.

  • @Zabudda said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:

KU gave up 81 points and you’re still trying g to place blame on the offense? KU shot 50% from the field today. Offense wasn’t the issue. You can’t give up 81 points and expect to win very many games.

  • @drgnslayr me too buddy , me too

  • Now before anyone says anything I guess were not the only fans who probably pretty upset on the year.— Gonzaga sure not typical Gonzaga year- —Oh Hurley U Conn for sure not a typical U Conn year- -doesn’t make it any better , cause I could give a rats ass just sayin

My god you’re going to be insufferable when we are even less consistent after the Self era. I’m not in the camp of “he can do no wrong.” But bad seasons happen everywhere. We are actually fortunate our “down season” is like a 5-seed in the tourney.

  • @drgnslayr said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:

    @KirkIsMyHinrich

It’s built to run through Hunter but he’s out on the trey line hoisting up bricks. But it finally paid off, he hit his first 3! Lol

I don’t like Hunt out there shooting 3s and I we know will miss Juan at times next season especially with Jackson not being able to practice or play for experience. But I won’t harp on Hunt a ton for this because so many of his teammates like Juan are too scared to shoot it. Juan was 0-1 from distance today but he could easily shot 5 of them. Dribble in circles and don’t look to score isn’t my idea of great offense. We have seen some great pass first point guards in this conference. Prime example tho I hate him is Doug Gottlieb. He didn’t look to score but averaged dang near 9 assists per game as a junior and senior. Im fine if Juan doesn’t shoot the ball but he’s need sit be getting 8 plus assists and completely shutting down the other side.

  • If we had humble teams, our guys would come ready… especially for in-state rivalries. I constantly gripe about our guys not ready to play. All our guys are jamming on their AirPods until game time. Meanwhile, Tang and troops were already in a huge sweat from team chants!

  • @Kcmatt7 we are currently on our third in a row in terms of bad seasons. If this was an outliner I’d be fine with it. It’s becoming the new norm

  • @Kcmatt7 at this point right now after today if the tourney started we would more likely be looking towards a seven seed

  • @kjayhawks I bet a million dollars Juan was jamming on his AirPods right before the game. He completely was unprepared to play. 3 fouls in 4 minutes?

  • @drgnslayr said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:

Ya idk 2 of his fouls we freshman level mistakes for 6th year guy so idk. Definitely would’ve helps to have on the floor more defensively I believe

  • @drgnslayr I refer back to my last reply to you, and your right-- they don’t feel the need of any urgency

  • Here is an idea for Self… no electronics on game day! Make them stay connected to the team and stay plugged in!

  • We are going to end the Season with at least eight losses. we have still to play three game stretch of Texas Tech-- - Arizona-- - And Houston oh boy

  • @Kcmatt7 I guess I’m just having doubts that this season is an outliner like you claim. Last year Bill Self had his only season at Kansas with 11 loses and a losing road record. This season is headed in the exact same direction with 7 losses and a 3-5 road record currently. I’m gonna highly doubt we win 3 of our next 4 on the road at this point. I guess it depends on how you want to look at it. With the 2018 season being vacated, we have made it out of the first weekend of the NCAAs a single time since then. One time that’s it, if you want to count 2018 still one time in 6 years isn’t good. That one time was by the hair of our chins tho the final result was good.

  • Invest in Darryn Peterson and the kids next year. This group doesn’t have “it”.

  • @approxinfinity

Kj -35 minutes and 5 boards

    Flory - 16 minutes and 4 boards

Sucks being right when I was hoping I’d be wrong. Dolla Bill can’t elevate the true talent he has and it limits so many of his teams. Caught up with him these past 3 years……as he stuck with “his guys”

But hey let’s blame the assistants not the guy who the buck stops with

  • D2, trex and lil dick - per Rinehart on Twitter

Dolla Bill - you weren’t wanted in the nba for a reason….

    The last two seasons:

-Big 12 play: 17-14 -Road Record: 6-13 -Lost Wednesday in Big 12 Tourney -Big 12 Opener Streak: ❌ -42 Year streak of not losing 3 straight in Manhattan: ❌ -Lost to Mizzou -Biggest blown lead in program history. -8 double digit losses. (4 by 20+)

    Bad

  • I didnt watch a minute of this one tbh. Kid stuff going on. Was it a train wreck? Are we hanging the L on Self?

  • @approxinfinity pretty much, like we didn’t have a scouting report at all. We had zero energy and even less heart somehow. Juando got into foul trouble early as in 3 fouls in about 8 minutes of playing time in the first half. 2 of which were just plain stupidity. We left shooters wide open consistently and just didn’t care to attempt to play anything that resembled defense.

  • Brutal.

Once again I’m an asshole for saying it but even Bill agrees

  • @approxinfinity I’ll add in this simply, Kansas state players seemed happy to be there and excited to take to shots. Kansas (primarily Juan and Shak) looked terrified to shoot.

Edit: we also tried 3 bigs again for a stretch in the second half…… it also as anyone with a brain could predict didn’t work and led to open 3s for them.

  • I haven’t read a single comment. I just wanted to say that my wife and I had a great day of antiquing in Hutchinson and now we’re at a nice Mexican restaurant. I hope everyone had a good day.

  • A lot of issues related to roster construction and navigating the portal - NIL world, but one thing is clear is that this team is the softest of the Self era - lacking both physical and mental toughness… KU used to win the vast majority of games that came down to crunch time. That certainly hasn’t been true the last couple of years…

  • @nuleafjhawk you’re smarter than the rest of us

  • @kjayhawks said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:

@Kcmatt7 we are currently on our third in a row in terms of bad seasons. If this was an outliner I’d be fine with it. It’s becoming the new norm

We’re also seeing the effects of the NCAA investigation with this group in regards to recruiting. That severely hurt the recruiting and overall talent level on this team. While the investigation was active, KU was only able to bring in 2 recruits good enough to be drafted and only 1 transfer that was drafted so there’s been a major drop off in talent. Elmarko and Flory have the talent to change that, but neither will be NBA players next season.

When was the last time KU had a team with zero players drafted that season? 2009 I think. I do expect next season to be better as KU could have at least 3 players that could be NBA players in 2026, and all potentially 1st round picks with Peterson, Flory, and Elmarko.

The other issue, and I’ve mentioned this in the past is Dejuan isn’t a great leader and that’s his biggest weakness to me. I think you’re the one mentioning listening to music in headphones before games. That’s not an issue to me because for many players, that’s how they block out the outside world to get focused on the game ahead. Everyone is different in that regard about helps them lock in before a game.

The issue with Dejuan’s leadership to me is that he appears to be a very soft spoken and shy person that doesn’t enjoy the spotlight. I don’t recall him ever getting loud and yelling to fire his teammates up and I think that’s why we see this team come out so flat most of the time. Basically, this group lacks a vocal leader that can light a fire under everyone because Self can’t do that every game and stay effective with his speeches. This would’ve been the perfect role for Hunter as we all know he had a edge to him that was perfect for that role of vocal leader, but he chose to not embrace that role for whatever reason this year.

This is more of a typical UConn year than the previous 2 under Hurley.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I wish we had a well rounded player that was a leader. Is Peterson a leader? Who will be the floor leader next year?

To me, it would ideally be Elmarko since he would be in his 3rd season and expected to run point next season.
