Looking back at Hilton

  • @DanR who is that? Flory?

  • Elite defense. Offense is very much not elite. I don’t think the offense is going to get much better this year unfortunately.

  • When Self retires, who would you want to replace him?

  • @patoh3 said in Looking back at Hilton:

If Self retires, who would you want to replace him?

    BShark

  • @patoh3 I havent gotten that far yet.

  • Disappointing loss and there isn’t a lot of positives to take from it. You just have 3 Sr’s that are very limited offensive players. Mayo not being the focal pt and not realizing just how impactful Flory has been, kind of keeping the team from finding it’s ceiling which has shown itself a lot since December to be low

  • Can we hire an offensive coordinator?

  • @BeddieKU23 doesnt matter if he is stuck coordinating Hunt Harris and KJ

  • The team isn’t jelling. Storr is in desperation mode. Kinda sad to watch. I’m not sure this is Selfs fault. Hunter looks slow. Kj plays his heart out but can’t really score, and now this team is struggling. Mayo is a nice surprise.

I remember before the season, the consensus was that this team was going to suck on D. Actually their D is pretty damn good at times.

Would be hard to see this squad be a potential nat champion, but I’ve decided to chuck expectations and try to enjoy them as they are

  • i just dont remember in 2007-2008 ever thinking “man what the hell is Self doing playing x over y?”

Is this a common thing with people watching other teams? Do you think that about players on Wisconsin riding pine @wissox ?

Only thing I would say is they Bill has a very large purse to get “his” guys. NIL changes expectations, fair or not.

Storr isn’t in desperation mode, that’s always been his game. He has always been selfish with the ball and takes a bunch of bad shots and makes dumb passes.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Didn’t know that… that explains his selfish play

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 AJ moves his head completely to see ball and man instead of getting in position to see ball and man at same time. I know you coach jr hi boys and I watch jr hi gals. Been awhile since I coached that age. You’re right.

  • I’m still in the tweaks not overhaul mode. A couple minutes here, a couple there and all the sudden things look a lot better. As much as I hate to say it because I adore KJ, but if he’s out for a bit we might see some guys step up.

  • The defense wasn’t terrible, you won’t beat them while they are shooting 62% from 3 in Hilton. We just had zero answers on offense a combined 10 points for Hunt and KJ won’t win us many games. Silly turnovers and missed FTs at key moments by our 5th year senior PG was definitely disappointing.

  • Hunter was soft as baby shit tonight. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t make multiple trips to the FT line every game, but zero tonight.

Other than the FT line, Dejuan wasn’t bad tonight and I don’t put a ton of blame on him for tonight. And this doesn’t mean that he was perfect, but he doesn’t get the majority of the blame tonight the way Hunter does.

Game was closer than the final score for sure. It was tight with 6 minutes left and got away. I hope we are done with AJ after this showing and the Diggy minutes baffle me.

  • @dylans Bill has to put him on the dang floor for that to happen

  • @Bosthawk said in Looking back at Hilton:

@Texas-Hawk-10 Didn’t know that… that explains his selfish play

AJ had a 32% usage rate at Wisconsin last season. He is the Temu version of James Harden

  • @BShark time to trim up the rotation at this point Coit and AJ should only play a few minutes when need for foul trouble.

  • @approxinfinity He’s regressed on roster construction and his scheme

High low with a 5 who’s slow and can’t guard

    A 4 who can’t shoot anything but a dunk and can’t rebound

Pg who can’t defend on the ball, can’t attack and can’t score or shoot consistently

Bill’s “guys” are real and he values stuff that doesn’t translate

  • Our awesome D held them to 74

Our incredible offense scored a solid 57

You take scorers and teach them to defend and scheme the D up

Bill takes defenders and hopes they magically figure out how to score

  • @Crimsonorblue22 said in Looking back at Hilton:

Jr. High kids doing this is fine because it’s the first time for the vast majority to play organized basketball instead of recess or PE basketball. His closeouts suck and that second foul that most were complaining about was a poor technique of wrapping his arms around the guy instead of extending his arms. I teach my players all the time that when they guard like that, a smart player is going to initiate contact a draw a foul every time to take advantage of poor defensive technique.

  • @SlimShaddy54 Self made sure we #leveledup #nevergonnahappenagain

Rolls the same 3 guys expecting a different result

Another @$$whoopin on the road to a top 10 team

Man would be nice to actually have a chance to win the conference again

I’m out see you all next year when we have a legit d1 Kansas level pg and pf

Bill sucks at roster construction and coaching guys equally and instilling confidence. Don’t be surprised if Rylan and Storr “are injured” and don’t finish the season

If you aren’t his guy than good effin luck here

He’s gonna ruin dp as well cause he’s past his prime

  • @FarmerJayhawk ….gets beat by almost 20 on the road and feels a few tweaks here or there and “we got this boys”

The same rd 32 crew last year is back and everyone expects different results - humanity truly is dumb

  • @kjayhawks shocking our offense labored yet effin again

That’s all Bill’s said for freaking decades - hey bill maybe be introspective and check your philosophy

  • LOL. Goooodbye. Hope you stick to it, might be good for your mentals to not watch.

  • @approxinfinity I don’t think so. Not yet anyways. This team lacks effort but I think that will change once Hunter is gone

  • @BShark he should take the KU out of his name!

  • @approxinfinity Self has always had this

    Traylor Morningstar Reed

He’s always had “his guys” that are in his circle of trust that limit the teams ceiling. He values things that don’t translate to scoring

Rather than having his team go play excellent he prefers to “make you play worse”. Already thinking about the other team versus thinking “how can we play our best”.

His entire coaching philosophy has been bad but he’s been successful due the greatest home court of all time and we did get talent even if he didn’t always play it

He picks some guys to encourage and give huge leashes and other guys he can’t stand and pulls with 1 eff

I’m telling you Rylan ain’t happy and his sick of this crap

Others on the team are pissed at what kj, hunt and Juan get away with and the going on three years of L’s is ZERO proof they are WINNERS

  • 14 point differential on FT’s made and 3 more 3 pointers made were the difference. Actual shots were exactly the same total at 59. We actually shot 3 more 3 pointers than they did. We had 14 less shots at the charity stripe. Getting to the line and then making them along with reducing stupid TO’s and fouls would solve our problems. Wish it was as easy as saying it. I don’t understand why we cannot get fouls called when we drive into the paint.

  • Tweet Derek Johnson - so telling. Self isn’t tanking his legacy he values defense over offense and schemes that don’t translate to today. You all can see it with minimal bball knowledge which says plenty

Kansas has lost 41 games in the Bill Self era at Kansas by 13 or more points (average of about 2/season)

However, 12 of those have come in the last 2.5 seasons

  • @BShark said in Looking back at Hilton:

LOL. Goooodbye. Hope you stick to it, might be good for your mentals to not watch.

oh he’s going to only watch halves. If we’re down at half, ITS MUST SEE TV

  • @FarmerJayhawk … and then must comment on the forum to let us all know how terrible the team and coach are.

  • @kuballin10 said in Looking back at Hilton:

Look beyond the box. It was closer than that. This team isn’t that far away. We still have to figure out how to get better on offense with the Juan/Shak combo but we can get there.

  • gonna have a big turnover again this year.- - AJ will be gone - - -Rylan won’t come back — -Coit will be gone – Moore will be gone- - - KJ gone - -Hunter is gone - -sorry but the way he plays against athletic bigs or overall athletes not just %'s he is worthless proof is in the pudding, So really won’t miss him that much --Rather watch the development of Flory - good rim defender, and eager to see his offensive side develop, more athletic than Hunter - -v Oh ya Zeke gonna be gone too

Rylan and Coit should be back as of today

  • Not going to win very many games when your Minus ten in rebounds ,----Minus fourteen in free throw points , minus two in assists-- not a winning receipe

  • @FarmerJayhawk Rylan not going to come back with the way things have went for him-- Coit can for sure go

  • @SlimShaddy54 said in Looking back at Hilton:

Bill will play a proven player alongside two newbies in the backcourt. They won’t kick Coit to the curb either. He’s a good deep bench piece that understands how to play here. And with revshare it’s good money to pass up.

  • @kuballin10 i cant blame the personnel, even if many of them have limitations that wont go away.

But you cant recruit guys like that and then play to their weaknesses instead of their strengths.

I hope that this game is used as evidence in the court of practice that Shak needs more time on ball, Rylen needs more minutes, and Bidunga needs to be unleashed.

  • Also I disagree with some here that think AJ should be cut from the rotation. He was capable first half, then rode pine until we were behind and did alright before making a couple mistakes.

I see a guy whom i could see settling down with more consistent minutes.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Rylan won’t but nice out with the “as of today” ya big insider

I can tell you from my Bama connection he’s had enough of this trash

  • @FarmerJayhawk This team has no effin chance to win a title and they are another rd32 exit or sweet 16 beatdown to a legitimate 1 seed

Your eye is as I’d expect with the coaching staff feeding you crap cause they can’t judge talent or maximize rhe roster either

Bama buddy texting me Self is gonna mess up dp and get another pg who can’t score in the portal plus a big who can’t shoot outside 5 feet

If I go on his podcast I’ll let you all here it

  • @approxinfinity Self doesn’t have his favorites or his pets I swear

If he pumped Shak up as much as he loved d2 - shak would be a more defensive version of Frank

Need the 5th year thing passed, get Zeke back to play with DP. But regardless, we could have a fun group, lots to play out yet though.

  • @approxinfinity it’s January and he’s completely gutted mentally and lost

Self plays stupid games and wins stupid prizes

We haven’t legitimately competed for a big 12 title going on this third year

Yet the field of 68 guys and everyone pumps self as some stud recruiter and gangster

Those guys got no clue either with how to properly evaluate talent and build a program/maximize it

That’s going to be an affair. I haven’t read the actual proposal (if there is one?), it’ll be interesting to see who it applies to, in what sports, etc etc
