2025 Recruiting

  • Right now, KU has the following situation with the roster for next season:

    Outgoing Players:

    Shak Moore-G

    Hunter Dickinson-C

    Dejuan Harris-G

    Zeke Mayo-G

    David Coit-G

    KJ Adams-F

    Incoming Players:

    Darryn Peterson-G

    Samis Calderon-F

    Bryson Tiller-F

    Eligible to Return:

    AJ Storr-G

    Rakeese Passmore-G

    Rylan Griffen-G

    Jamari McDowell-G

    Elmarko Jackson-G

    Flory Bidunga-F

    Zach Clemence-F

With the scholarship limit expanding to 15, KU in theory has 5 more scholarships to offer.

In regards to eligible to return players who may not, Bidunga is on there for the NBA, AJ Storr has to be a consideration if the light never fully comes on for him here, same with Griffen. Clemence seems like a possibility if he wants more playing time. I also believe that Elmarko and McDowell could be possible transfers as well depending on who Self lands in the portal and who would have interest in them.

A starting caliber PG should be the top priority in the portal along with a starting caliber athletic 4. If both Griffen and Storr leave after this season, a starting wing jumps a 4 in priority because Calderon will be a nice player, but I don’t think he’d be ready yo start right away for KU. Beyond that, the rest of the portal additions are going to be about building depth.

  • Boom Shaka laka

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Nice summary. Storr has played for 7 teams now in 7 years so a transfer is highly likely. Imagine if the kid just settled for one place how much better he’d be.

I think our NIL makes a difference here. Also Self. If he isn’t going to stick around to be the best player he can be under Self he likely isn’t headed for a serious professional career. This is where he needs to be to get where he wants to go. We all see the flashes in him but he’s still not there to being a finished product. I’m very surprised he isn’t a starter given the NIL we gave him. Hopefully he’s open to a 2nd year

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Great post. Wish there was a way to pin this for future reference. (@approxinfinity is that a feature?)

  • @BeddieKU23 If Storr is on the team next year I will eat a shoe

Same but we can hope some factors make a difference if he doesn’t have the season expected. He’s not even a starter here. There’s no NBA team that’s coming for that

  • @BShark Do we get to pick the shoe?

Isn’t that the second shoe Sharky has vowed to eat? Starting to think there’s a problem here! 🙂

  • @patoh3 boot!

  • Apparently the #1 rated QB in this class who is committed to LSU is receiving a 10.5 million dollar offer to go to Michigan. Absolutely insane, that’s more than a lot of NFL guys.

  • I remember when we would be in the hunt for top recruits and inevitably all went elsewhere. So this year, our recruiting is the way I always dreamed.

  • @bskeet you can bookmark it or make it its own thread.

Worth noting it’s over 4 years. But yeah, it would make him higher paid than Bo Nix among others.

  • I think we are experiencing the beginning of higher recruits coming in again. Gone is the NCAA threat. Here is the good NIL revenue stream and a HOFr coach sitting at the top of college basketball right now!

I just hope we limit being an OAD farm. It really doesn’t make sense now to go after most of these players unless it is a guy who definitely makes us a contender in that one year.

The portal should remain our main recruiting focus. Sprinkle in a few outstanding HS recruits.

  • Watching some recent video of Peterson, he’s going to challenge to be #1 in the class. Playing at a different level then his peers

I really like Dybantsa and they are a clear cut 1/2 imo (lol at Jamie Shaw’s rankings, I won’t even go there…) with Peterson making a real push for the top spot.

  • Hearing Shak Moore will not play another game for the Jayhawks and will take a medical red shirt and transfer at semester, because of this I’m hearing Bryson Tiller will come in early at semester. Not sure if there’s any truth this but that’s what I’m hearing.

  • @CasterTroy good trade?

  • @CasterTroy ya not anything on Shaq but, have heard talk about tiller wanting to come in at semester

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Tiller would redshirt if coming in early.

  • @CasterTroy

Nothing would surprise me but that would be a dumb move since KU will need a pg next year.

  • Peterson beat Dybansta in their matchup last night. Making a strong case for #1 overall. Looks like Dybansta will commit this week, Bama is trending

  • @BeddieKU23 I have seen where Darryn got moved up from # 3 - -to the 2nd best in the Nation in several places , going to be a blasat watching him for his one Season. - -I guess they still have it where they can’t go straight to the NBA from High School huh ? - Otherwise if they could then a no doubter

So have we used up our NIL money for the year? How’s he gonna get some mid year?

  • In least shocking thing ever, Dybansta has officially committed to BYU.

His group tried to play up some late drama like DP’s group did. Seems to be a lot of that this cycle.

  • Has anyone heard any more about Tiller joining Ku at Semester?- -Not sure the logic in that , heard he would redshirt , well if he does that then why at Semester ?- you can do that at the beginning of next yr. Just seems kind of senseless for this yr.

You don’t want him to come in and try and play for a semester and lose a year of eligibility by doing that. He isn’t going to help that much in a semester of play , going to take time to get accustomed to college ball.

Can someone explain what the logic would be for doing this, or what would be the advantage of it.

Wouldn’t it simply make sense for him to come in now and learn the system and build up his body to be ready for the start of next year? Maybe that’ll get him in and out of Self’s doghouse quicker!

  • @rockchalkjayhawk ya that would make sense , however why not just come early and spend the entire Season on Red Shirt be able to learn the system and build his body if he going to do that. Devote the entire Season

  • Sooo turns out the A J Dybantsa commitment turns out quite weird/interesting.- -As we know or you should of known K/State was considered in pretty good shape between them and BYU , then comes word Alabama has made a hard push and word was he was going to Alabama- - Talk on NIL is Seven Million-- Geez

Now here is the kicker I guess Aj was suppose to go watch the KSU/LSU game on the 14th of Nov when in reality – AJ cancels his trip to watch the game and actually Committed to BYU the next day way back on the 15th of November,

They knew o the 15th that AJ had committed to BYU then , they have just been playing it out from there. - -The Alabama Coach actually went to watch AJ and didn’t even know he was already committed- - -his dad went anyways to the N Carolina/LSU game playing this whole thing out – this comes from the guy who wrote the article SM Nation /BYU, boy am I glad we didn’t end up with that mess - -crazy , crazy.

  • I’m grateful Coach pushed all his chips in on Darryn. Just a better fit for us on numerous levels

I sure was hoping it was DP coming in at the semester!

  • After listening to coach self’s press conference today sounds like Shak is almost ready to start playing again which means the Tiller rumor was just that a rumor.

  • Shak thing is weird. He’s missed games almost every year going back to high school so this is just who he is, hopefully he will contribute.
