The Boys Are Back vs OU

  • I see that Andrea Hudy is now with UConn. I sure hope Johnny stays for another year and takes advantage of our strength program.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I just want him to stop forcing shots as much as anything else. Had some quick triggers today for sure.

I will agree with that as he had 0 assists and offensive rebounds today and does seem like he’s overcompensating his knee injury and trying to force his shots too much. This was also the biggest reason why KU lost in Manhattan as well.

  • Well was told earlier, that Johhny was the worst of KU players on this dm thing plus/minus whatever the hell you wanna call it.–Well he ends up 15 points----- 9 rebounds, I’ll take that any day

And Johnny scored early in the game when no one else was scoring.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 that’s what I’m more so trying get at with his “hero ball” as I call it. Too much dribbling and forced shots.

  • Catching the game now, listening to the world’s dumbest leprechaun

Exactly, 15 points----- 9 rebounds and just found out 3 steals—and how many times was he on the floor scrapping for the loose balls

  • I know not good enough for our guy that loves to bash Juan so 11 points—7 assists - - & ZERO turnovers–not getting it done Juan I mean come on you wouldn’t be startin on any other Big 12 team right ? - - - ya right roflmao— -your fine Juan you do what you do- -Haters gonna hate

  • And now with the weird schedule we don’t play away from AFH until March

Is weird but I’ll take it right about now

  • I’m actually not glad they’re going to the $EC, but since they are, good riddance. KU showed you to the door nicely. No football win, no hoops wins.

Nice to see the result today. I’m with family so wasn’t contributing to the negativity and then the positivity during the game. First half threatened to turn into another TTech. But a little toughening at the end and some enjoyable Jayhawk basketball for a change.

And so, for the last time, and I really wish I was profane right now because I want to use some words for OU and Texas and their contributing to the craziness that we now have in conference realignment.

I was glad to be reminded of Danny during the ceremony for Billy Tubbs. I’m sure OU fans were galled that they’d mar the ceremony by showing DM, but I’m pretty convinced that Danny would have been an almost miracle with his teammates if Billy Tubbs had used his bench. They were gassed at the end because he only used 1 guy for 5 minutes, kind of like what Bill Self has been forced to do recently.

  • @jayballer67 Juan was great second half

  • The good news is Kevin should be able to make a recovery soon especially with next week being open. You can’t really make a bone bruise worse, it just takes time to heal up.

  • The Furph is definitely showing he is capable of taking his game on the road. Talk about filing a stat sheet!

    15 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals.

  • @drgnslayr Furphy has the highest ceiling of anyone on this team likely by a wide margin. Hes a top 5 pick in next seasons draft.

  • @kjayhawks 100% agree!

  • Shhhhhhhh!!! 🤫

  • Am I the only one routinely disappointed with KU’s FT shooting? Year after year. KU was 9/18 yesterday; OU hit 17/23, 74%. Come on now, a top ten team must make FTs, especially on the road where Big 12 refs always make sure the home team shoots 5-10 more FTs.

  • Looks like someone needs even more practice shooting free throws!! “Wow Virginia beats WF in 1980s big East style of game while shooting 9% from the FT line 😳

  • @kjayhawks said in The Boys Are Back vs OU:

KJ fine in the second half IMO had 9 points, 3 boards and 2 assists.

That stat line shocks me. He was grabbing his shorts most of the second half, completely gassed.

That really hasn’t been the case nearly s much this year. - -KU as a team going into yesterday was shooting at 74 %- -pretty solid average - -right there with all other tems in the Big 12 – just not yesterday

KU is 125th in FT% nationally and 7th in the Big 12. That’s not great, but probably to be expected when this isn’t a great shooting team.

they was like 2nd in the big 12 a couple of games ago - - -it’s ok

  • Feels like situational free throw shooting has been below par all year. When we have needed the front end of a 1 and 1 in close games or holding onto leads late in games, these situations have been problematic

  • Probably reflects the high mins/game played by the starters. Lack of bench gets reflected in poor shooting percentages, less energy to get rebounds and steals, more turnovers,… basically anything exhaustion affects.

If we were talking about an occasional game, it wouldn’t be so important because, yes, these guys should be conditioned well enough to go the distance sometimes. But there is a reason deep teams don’t always play their starters 85%-100% of available minutes.

  • McCullar can’t hit a free throw in the second half of a game due to no legs between fatigue and injury. KJ is KU’s most aggressive player and while his free throw shot has improved, it’s still not good. Hunter doesn’t bang to get freebies. Dejuan avoids contact, because he’s too short/not athletic enough to finish thru it. Furphy is a spot shooter - not many opportunities there. No one else plays enough minutes to swing the narrative.

  • Speaking of KJ, does it seem like other teams have shut down KJ’s short roll and dunk?

Well scouted in conference play for sure. I think KU has to be selective when to run it too so you keep some surprise at times to make it an effective play. I think in the tournament we have a chance to catch a team that hasn’t had time to scout it/practice against it (especially a 2nd game of weekend type)
