he not going to Auburn
-
¯_(ツ)_/¯ on this one. Think we’re better off in the portal if we need a starting big. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be excited if we got him. But I don’t think he’s a better prospect than Cliff was, and he took awhile to get going.
-
Looking like Auburn brought the right amount to the table. Pearl is a strong recruiter and apparently has a strong NIL backing his efforts.
Personally I think we dodge a bullet if we miss here. It is noteworthy how much Bill recruited him, I would guess he’s put in more time with Flory then a majority of players he’s went after in recent years. If Flory doesn’t want to be coached by Self, I think I have my answers

I was still celebrating the Furphy commitment and now I get Flory. Bro this is euphoria to me.

Flory situation is a goat rodeo. Too hard to parse. Duke writer now saying he would change his crystal ball to foggy if that were still a feature.
At least it went better than the last one KU was involved in with a late twist (Mgbako).
-
From Cincinnati to Auburn to Duke to Auburn to Kansas
-
I will say Flory will be a little bit of a slow burn. He’s kind of a cross between Cliff and Cheick
-
Can Flory develop into a 4? That’s what will determine his NBA future. He’s got the athleticism, but can he develop his shooting range to be a 4? I would imagine that’ll be a huge part of the focus on developing his game at KU.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 not at KU. He’s a 50% type FT shooter so he just won’t be around long enough for his game to stretch. Now if he’s really 6’10 and gets to 240 then it’s a different conversation.

WOW . I didn’t even pay attention to the announcement cause I didn’t think there was a snow balls chance in hell. I saw these CB’S for Duke - -Then last night & today for Auburn lo -thought welp – movin along, huge defensive help
-
Whoa nelly…i thought he was an Auburn lock! how strangely exciting! I gotta go read up about him, catch up on 2024 class.
He’s a 5? What kinda skillz he got?
-
@rockchalkjayhawk very much just a run runner and dunker right now. Not much offensive skill to speak of.

Who has him listed at 6-10? 24/7, Rivals, and ESPN all have him either 6-8 or 6-9 and between 210-220 lbs. so very much not a 5 at the NBA level. I’ve also read that his lack of height could force him to hang around college a second year. I believe Bleacher Report compared his offensive game to Doke which should also mean that Flory needs to work on his jump shot to develop some range if he wants to stick in the NBA because being an undersized center won’t keep him in the NBA, it’ll send him overseas.

@Texas-Hawk-10 it’s right there in the scouting report https://www.on3.com/db/flory-bidunga-153411/scouting/

The profile has him at 6-9, 215. The author claims 6-10, but none of the recruiting services claim it so I would be very skeptical that all these sites are under reporting his height when it’s usually inflated by an inch or two.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 fiiiine. And arguing about an inch when he’s got a 7’4 wingspan is really a waste of time anyway. He’s flatly not going to be a college 4. Even in the scenario where Hunter comes back it would be tough to play them together. More likely he backs up Hunter and KJ sticks at the 4.

A little scouting on Flory : - - - pretty dominant in the Las Vegas showdown whee he averaged - --18.5 ppg - - 9.7 rpg - -& 3.5 blocks per
Furter scouting on hi it says , Excellent shot blocker, quick off his feet , blocks wll on ball and weak side. He has a jump shot that extends to 10 feet can actually leaad the break but knows when to give it up. get’s a lot of points off the break a he beats his man down the floor. Finish’s with floaters & short corner jumpers - -patented shot is his jump hook - -left hand reliant right now but can get away with it right now because of his basket ball IQ. - -vey good offensive rebounder.
Gatoraide player of the year inn Indiana - his season stats last yr were insane - - -20. 2 points per game - - -13.8 rebounds per game - -& 4.5 blocks pe game - -but listen to this he shot – EIGHTY ONE % FROM THE FIELD lmao - - -OMG lol
-
He plays soccer too!
-
This is pleasant news
-
Made my night!
-
Didn’t expect it. Hope he sticks around to develop and learn from the best.
Self recruiting him personally had to make a difference here plus whatever big stick NIL we have… good times
-
With Hunter in the mix, what will be his role in 2024? Backup center?
-
Yeah… I don’t expect we will see both on the team at the same time. A lot can happen between now and next summer.
-
The Diallo/ Cliff comp seems good here.
-
I wonder if Hunter will actually come back after this yr ? - -Could be Bill recruited Flory on full assumption that Hunter will not be back
-
Just happy Adidas didn’t let us down here. Reading tea leaves here, it either means Dickinson is gone or Flory and his team seem comfortable letting him get seasoning at KU multiple years…
Either way, I’m just glad and Adidas made a point to get their top guy to their top school. As it should be.
-
Most likely it means Flory thinks he can come in and take the starting job from Dickinson. Luckily for him, Dickinson is unlikely to be around to show him otherwise
-
Iam more likely wrong on this but I thought I had heard or read some where it was Hunter’s intention just to be here for the one year

I think a bit further along than Diallo at the same point. Also…bouncier? Cheick was FAST though. Hopefully he plays more for Kansas than Cheick did LOL.

We’re talking two different things here. I haven’t been posting about what he’ll play at KU. I’ve been posting about what he needs to do to succeed in the NBA and what he’ll play there.
He’ll be fine here at KU with his skill set and be able to contribute here for 1 or 2 years or however long he’s in Lawrence. But if he wants to make and stick in the NBA at his size, he has to develop a game away from the basket. If he doesn’t get any taller, being an undersized 5 with basically no offensive game is going to send him overseas instead of hanging around the NBA.

Flory is raw enough on offense that he shouldn’t start day 1 at a place like Kansas and shouldn’t OAD if he wants a better chance at sticking in the NBA. Having him be a backup for a year to Dickinson and allowing him to play to his current strengths of being a high energy, above average defender and rebounder and allow him to develop some kind of offensive game for his second year is the ideal situation for both KU and Flory.
-
@BShark looks like higher bb IQ
-
What does this mean for Zach? I’m sure he was banking on being the man after Hunter left.
-
How does Flory compare to Zuby and Udeh?
-
@rockchalkwyo - on the one hand, Zach will have been in the system for 2 years and knows the plays. Flory is somewhat of a project. Zach should get lots of minutes at 4 or 5, I’d think. Brain will be gone.
-
Yeah I saw what Bossi said about the Diallo comp, good for us if true that he’s further ahead.
-

Around same height as Zuby but longer wingspan and more athletic/bouncy. Some of the same traits as Udeh, rim runner etc. His development on offense will be key for him.
The Udeh/Zuby situation angers me still from both sides.

@jayballer67 I don’t recall ever seeing that, but even if he did we see people change their mind all the time with regards to returning. We know hunter is likley making around the NBA min so would be weird to see him take a pay cut to play in the g league or Europe. Maybe Bill doesn’t want him for 2 years? That seems unlikely but could just be Hunter wants to be one with college after 4 years? If that’s not the case though, hopefully Flory has considered and is ok with that or else there is a chance we might see him decommiting next spring.
Flory seem to be ranked highly just based on his athleticism though, so it would make sense for him to end up being a 2 year player so he can improve on passing/defense/shooting. Just hearing the comps to Diallo and Azubuike makes me think that he will have a hard time going in the lottery if he isn’t elite at one of those to complement his rim running ability.
-
Said this on the Flory thread started yesterday, but kids highly rated like this go pro almost always so he’s a one year soon to become distant memory less than two years from now, so I’ll bridle my enthusiasm with harsh doses of reality.

Agree with pretty much on everything you said. Those same thoughts went through my mind also. - The one thing is that they have said he is improving his offense that’s it not just dunks or bust has a little range does really well getting his position down low for his patent jump hook - has little game with some floaters and short baseline jumpers.
Kinda scares me though just like you mentioned I’m not sure if he would be willing to play behind hunter for extended length of time. you know how these kids that are ranked that high think. their train of thouht a lot of times is they feel they should start from day one. - just a scenario that has to play out. Yet like you also say could be a chance Hunter returns - - Flory de-commits
-
Where is Diallo? He’s a true case that proves to young players that staying in college awhile really, really helps to seal your nba future. He was so lost and it was so sad! He was also so talented but just raw! Cliffs mom really screwed him over. Just like Billy’s mom.
-
Give me Jalil Bethea and I’ll be good to go. -Ranked # 20 by 247 - -& ranked 16th by Rivals. In rivals seen one future cast and it was for KU @ 48 % would be nice to be able to pull him in
-
@Crimsonorblue22 - Diallo is apparently playing pro ball in Mali.
