    Duke lock

    Sickening tbh.

I’m really not crazy high on our starting lineup at the moment either. Even with Nelson, it is a bit concerning. The saving grace was that we would have a ton of depth. But with Udeh and Zuby out we have absolutely questionable/non-existent depth at the 3,4 and 5 spots. And with the portal closed targets are limited. If we end up with Parker Freaking Braun as backup Center I won’t even know what to think.

Agreed. Our two wing replacements are Marcus Adams and Timberlake. Timberlake is 6’4 idk how well he’ll hold up defensively at the 3 and Marcus Adams is a totally unknown variable that we can’t count on for now. Obviously bill will get a guy in but it’s looking murky for now

  • Not worried in the least. My question is where is KJ going to play? So, we have KJ, Timberlake, and Adams potentially at 4. Starting lineup of: Juando/Morris/ Timberlake/KJ/ Dickinson. El Marko and Adams coming off the bench. Why are we gnashing our teeth and pulling out our hair? That’s a hell of a team.

  • @benshawks08 Well - Duke, K-State, Mizzou - it doesn’t matter. We have to root for this young man, invest in his mental, physical, spiritual and emotional well being because he lived in Lawrence for a few months and wore a Kansas uniform for a few minutes.

This is in no way directed at you @benshawks08. I just saw your post that listed Duke/K-State…

  • @nuleafjhawk if he goes to Duke I will be actively rooting for him to fail.

There’s only 3 front court players on the team right now. KJ has to be the starting 4 with the current roster composition because he isn’t sitting behind Marcus Adams.

I also question who the starting 3 will be because I have serious doubts about Timberlake’s defense being good enough to play 30 mpg for Bill Self, but starting Marcus Adams at the 3 also means you don’t have a big man on the bench either. Self absolutely has to land a starting caliber 3 or 4 from the guys who withdraw from the draft otherwise front court depth will be a very major problem next season.

No doubt we need bench depth. But, we have 3 schollies available. I just don’t think not getting Mgbako is going to be the death knell some seem to think.

We definitely need depth at the 4/5 - arguably starter quality at the 4, given that KJ will have to be the primary back-up at the 5 for now. Are we still looking at Nelson? Any interest or shot at Kaluma, who would seem to be a good fit? What about either of the Tennessee guys? If none of them, who are the best options of those who don’t stay in the draft?

And Louisiana. The only thing against the law in Louisiana is a bad meal.

  • @Jethro fact check: true. The best tailgate I’ve ever been to was in Lafayette.

At least we get to see their mom for another year.

  • @Jethro To me the issue is the portal is closed. You’re getting who you’re getting without some serious tampering happening for a grad transfer.

We may yet land a couple of NBA dropouts, but I would just say at this very second I’m concerned.

  • Unless some amazing 4 falls from the sky, the 3 spots we fill will all be back ups. Parker Braun is perfect.

  • Syracuse is trying to get in this one.

  • @BShark - ‘splain please?

  • @Gorilla72 said in Bye Bye Ernest:

    @BShark - ‘splain please?

Duke is the favorite, Syracuse is trying to get a visit after the dead period ends.

  • Final 247 portal rankings came out. Udeh was # 15 , talked about not to let the low numbers fool ya , that Udeh would be a really solid pickup for some program. - - Udeh has 3 CB’S for Duke right now , an Duke inside said that K/State and TCU were not feeling very confident about Udeh making his visits with them

Sounds like they are pretty excite about Udeh , nice get for them , like was stated Udeh is gonna be a solid player

  • I remain grossed out.

why are you grossed out ?

  • I hate Duke. So much.

  • @approxinfinity

A tale as old as time

  • @approxinfinity said in Bye Bye Ernest:

Ahhh, but don’t hate the player - - hate the game. I’m glad he is landing at a premier School with the tradition they have and be able to play. I want to see them all do well. - I rather he go there then that punk ass school down the pike

  • Academic issues may prevent him from transferring to Duke. WOW!

  • @BShark said in Bye Bye Ernest:

Syracuse is trying to get in this one.

Cuse are a great fit tbh

  • @BShark

Standards are high there. In any case we don’t need him going there only to make Duke better.

  • Still an outside chance he stays here right? Like, obviously small, but still technically possible?

  • @benshawks08 technically yes. .00001% chance of happening

  • @Kcmatt7 said in Bye Bye Ernest:

I think he takes the KSU and TCU visits now. Door is not fully closed on Duke. He’d have to retake some credits.

  • @BShark if he’s going to take more classes at KU might as well come back next fall 😉

  • Are Udeh and Kevin truly the best options to fill our two scholarship we have left open?

  • @benshawks08 give me Nelson and McCullar. We’d be an absolute menace on D

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in Bye Bye Ernest:

@BShark if he’s going to take more classes at KU might as well come back next fall 😉

    LOL.

From what I’ve been told he’d have to retake the same classes at Duke over the summer.

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in Bye Bye Ernest:

Yeah Nelson and Spencer would be my top picks. Realistic educated guess is Pullin and Kaluma which is also pretty damn good.

Kaluma and Spencer would be my personal choices. Spencer is a proven sniper and top level defender amd Kaluma gives more options for subbing and line up combinations in the front court and wing spots.

  • I would prefer Spencer over Pullin. I would take Spencer even if it meant Timberlake walked bth.

  • Oh i also would take Spencer over McCullar no questions asked. Better player, period.

Yeah both are one year rentals so you’d take the better one.

  • WAIT…College athletes have to go to class? And get decent grades ???
    😳🥴😬 Mind - BLOWN.

Mercy , if true this Now would be the 2nd player with issues Love ( Michigan ) & now this ?

  • As it turns out there are indeed academic requirements for student athletes. Shocker to many that the money you spend on tickets and merch go to specialized counselors and other staff that guide athletes in all sports toward graduation, and that they graduate at a higher rate than other students. More at 10.

So what ever happened to all the rules and regs about players having to be on course to graduate, take x amount of classes, etc., for the team to be in good standing?

I’m recalling issues from the past when guys stayed for a year and left?

All that change with the 1 year portal rental?

  • @rockchalkjayhawk nope, all the same rules apply. Academics and Compliance are buried in transcript evals right now to make sure enough credits transfer for the recruit to be immediately eligible. For example, if an athlete takes a junior/senior level course at another school and it only transfers as a 300 level to KU, could make the athlete not eligible since they may not have enough credits to have made degree progress. Sometimes if you read “School X is no longer in the picture for Player Y” that can be the reason.

Thanks for the scoop, @FarmerJayhawk .

This portal stuff i’m sure is making it challenging and adding staff to all sports compliance staffs.

  • So Udeh took 1 or more freshman level courses that didn’t transfer to Duke. Is that the gist of it?

  • Maybe by the end of the week Self will have convinced Ernest to stick around. I haven’t been paying attention to 2024 recruiting, we got any bigs lined up? Wishful thinking on both?

Wow! Hopefully they added some staff for her and didn’t triple her workload!

  • Looks like he has landed at TCU.

  • Ooh, in conference. Let the rivalry, booing begin.
