Transfer Rumblings

  • @Bosthawk said in Transfer Rumblings:

Yes it’s hard this time of year with all the exploding numbers of transfers to be patient… we all want this process to be DONE so we know what our team will be. I certainly trust Self to find the right guys, and it’s gonna take time.

Perhaps Hunter will wait to see what Oscar Tshiebwe will do before he pulls the trigger. I’m sure it’s not all about NIL $… every team in the running can find a way to pony up, but I imagine Kansas and Kentucky can easily top the other schools.

Not sure why, but a lot or enough I should say really don’t seem to be as high on Hunter, a lot of them see him landing at Ku. some of them feel that Oscar is better and worried about losing him, some would rather Oscar come back whether then get Hunter. - -it just sounds like they have pretty well thinking he is KU’s - -I’m not so sure about that but

  • Tyson looks Cal-bound.

Yeah some tea leaves with Morris wrt KU I think. KU does only have 2 open spots right now and of course one will be held for Hunter.

  • Some thoughts

Let’s say Self adds either Morris or Spears. This seems like an almost safe assumption at this point but it’s recruiting so you never know. Also Spears would have to get his waiver.

    Guard rotation: Juan/Elmarko/Morris or Spears/Timberlake

4 guys for 3 spots and 120 minutes. We’d be small at the 3, but good players.

Likely dead weight next season, respectfully: McDowell, CJ, Cuffe

4 spot: KJ and Marcus Adams

    Bigs: Udeh, Zuby

So things then boil down to Hunter. If you add him I still think Bill gets a 1 seed with this, even if the 4 spot could be near disaster levels. If you add a ham sandwich in that spot instead, probably a 3-4 seed because Bill is Bill, an all-time great coach. There are varying levels in between too. 2 million suddenly becomes available if you don’t get Hunter who should be announcing before the portal entry deadline. That’s a lot of oomph to maybe get someone else for the 4/5 spot to portal.

Since Bill can’t see to get the 4th spot to open combined with the self-imposed reduction it limits our bench options. Hopefully, we can be a legit 8 deep.

  • If there is 2 million for Hunter, why would McCullar leave? Bill wants him as much as anyone out there. Kevin is not making 2million the next two years, let alone one playing pro basketball.

Different offers for different players. He also just wants to be done with college basketball apparently.

honestly, having the options for the final scholarship be either Hunter or someone coming back from the draft is solid. Lots of conjecture there though

Tyson is in the same boat as Spears of needing a waiver to play next season so that’s not necessarily a loss for KU.

Between the two of them I’d say Tyson is way more likely to get a waiver given his situation at Tech. I really don’t see any scenario where Spears gets a waiver

  • I fully expect the NCAA to be dicks to players transferring this offseason. It is my belief it is what the coaches and schools want. And talks that went on behind closed doors have the NCAA carrying their water.

I don’t expect Tyson or Spears to get a waiver. Tyson may have a better case, but I suspect the NCAA still doesn’t grant a waiver.

Coaching change not being a reason is complete BS. I agree with what you are saying.

HUGE - -w got to throw everything but the Kitchen sink at him get him to come. - Maybe Auburn wasn’t able to convince him to visit - - Yippee

  • Sounds like all the “not coachable” talk has disappeared. I’m all for bringing in Tyson, would like this move a lot.

    BANG SOON

  • On my end, things went pitch dark after the visit. That usually means things are about done. Always got the impression the interest was more on Morris’s side than KU’s. I guess we’ll find out for sure Friday.

    Glad ole vern came around

would be nice if it turned out that way - - " The Three Amigos " - -lol

  • Man I would love to have Hunter , but yet beginning to think if we can get Tyson & Timberlake & I guess Morris - - just play our 5 by committee may not be ideal , but I think we would be ok, Udeh is going to progress started to show some in the later stages last year. -just have Udeh & Zuby - maybe KJ still at teh 5

I want hunter but hearing now that Hunter yet may still TAKE ANOTHER VISIT. - -Coming out that now Gonzaga has made Hunter a priority , and he vey well could make a visit there after the Villanova visit. So we have went from Maryland - - G Town & KU being the suposed front runners to - - Kentucky getting involved - - Then we have Villanova coming in - -and NOW GONZAGA. - - like people have said it has just become a bidding war - Gonzaga after him to replace Timme - Strong interest on both sides I guess. - -Hell every where he has went there has been STRONG INTEREST in both sides- -Come on dude , I see part of what people are talking about. - -Center of attention and he is eating it up for all it’s worth and wants to keep it that way. - Your good but not that good

  • @jayballer67 by all accounts Hunter is sticking to his early May timeframe. I get fans are frustrated but there’s no hurry on his end, and really nor should there be.

True they are but also if he is now going to Gonzaga those dates is a mute point. Just have heard things about Hunte as to why some aren’t really believe it or not interested. - Let me ask you , do you think Hunter is an NBA player? - -just curious, from many statements I have read. - Not that it means a hill of beans to us cause we are only interested while he is or might be at KU. Hell I’ve even heard now there might be a chance of a return to Michigan

  • So is the general consensus that Hunter Dickinson truly wants to make all his visits, or is he just not impressed with what he’s seen so far at KU, Kentucky and Maryland? Stacks of cash not high enough?

And can we get Tyson here before Spears commits!!!

Yeah I never thought he’d call it early.

I really think they’d take both and figure it out later.

Yeah take Tyson and a small guard, figure out the other spot if Hunter pops.

  • Bill Self 5.75 million per year

Lance Leipold 5 million per year

Hunter Dickinson 2 million per year

    🤔

  • I mean I don’t blame Hunter one bit. See some campuses, have a good time and hear the money. I’d do the same thing to gather all info and decide.

Fans like us are just impatient and want to know.

    Trust the staff I’m told!

  • Well from the latest I saw , and take it for what it’s worth but an Kentucky insider/publisher by the name of Pilgrim , said that Hunters decision would be coming next week after his Villanova visit. Saying it was a close fight between Kentucky and KU.

Say that hunter saying strictly business deal with the NIL and that even though Maryland had his old Coach that Maryland had been dropped because they couldn’t come up with the NIL like KU & UK

Saw another poste going by the name of Chalmers 15 saying that KU insides had no information other then ( SHAY- and the latest he had heard it was Kentucky - Announcement for Kentucky either Monday or Tuesday. -So actually in reality all this is - -ya da , ya da , ya da - -Blah , blah , blah - the only thing solid that I got is sound like next week sometime for Hunters announcement - which ONCE AGAIN Farmer had pegged right on the nose probably - -thanks Big guy appreciated, at least we are getting closer one way or another.

  • So need some more input on this cause I just didn’t follow Hunter that close, but maybe someone who has seen him frequently or just knows. - The more I red about him , a lot coming out that says he has some issues - like being really Arrogant - CB was kind of like that - BUT CB had more of a EDGE/COCKINESS instead of Arrogance - BIG DIFFERENCE , loved CB’s Edge. - but hearing Hunter is arrogant - - and possibly Locker room problems- -Self Centered - anybody know what’s going on there ? - -problems with team Chemistry

  • In a theoretical world where Bill can’t get the 4th scholarship open I think Tyson + Mgbako makes a ton of sense. Tyson’s flexibility helps.

    Guards: Juan/Elmarko/Timberlake/Tyson

    Wing/4: Tyson/Marcus/Mgbako

    Post: KJ/Udeh/Zuby

That’s a legit 8 deep with an emergency big.

  • Yesufu to Washington St

Legit is one way of putting that… Very mid. 8 deep of meh.

  • The bright side of that lineup is that it can really shoot. But still lacking guys who can get points off the bounce.

    Why I don’t like Primo:

    • takes a million long 2s. Hate.
    • Has won 13 games total in his two seasons playing college ball… I mean c’mon
    • Will not get a waiver
    • Small guard, not sure that we need that or that we can effectively defend with him/Juan/Elmarko.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk I just discount that ability for him as a freshman. Not wanting to put too much hope in the hands of a freshman under Bill Self.

    My brother you liked Joe.

The waiver is the biggest sticking point to me. If they think he will get it he’s a take as long as he is willing to come off the bench/not be assured of a starting spot. I don’t think you are ever putting him out there with Juan AND Elmarko.

If you take what I posted earlier and add Spears it looks even better. Takes potentially relying on Marcus out of the equation a bit (Mgbako is certainly better than Marcus).

ETA: That relies on getting the 4th spot loose, which really feels like a massive key in all of this. Cuffe/CJ/McDowell is a lot of dead weight when we are going down to 12.
