Transfer Rumblings

@mayjay sure! Thanks for reminding me not everyone is chronically online. Andrew Slater, who’s as plugged into basketball as any human alive today, tweeted that KU would be in on Harrison Ingram. This was weeks before he hit the portal. So KU got spooked it would look like obvious tampering and backed off to make it look like they only recruited him after he entered. Idk if it was ever realistic for him to commit super early, but it did give UNC a window to jump in the race.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Ah, I remember a concern mentioned not to look like tampering. Thanks!
I am pretty sure we have so much more info this year than years past. How you all sort it out is beyond my ken!
-
Been busy. I’ll just say trust Farmer.
Would maybe get into it with Tyson if they miss on Ingram. There would be a lot to work out though. He does NOT have the dog in him. Do not rule Ingram out though.

Getting the impression that Morris’s interest in KU is more than vice versa…
This one has been absolutely brutal to try and parse info on.
-
are we a legit contender for mgbako?
-
@rcjhdraft no.
-
Next 7 days will be very interesting. My money is on a second commitment.
-
Vernon made it sound like they’ll take Morris commitment if he wants to come.

Vernon vs Farmer, Ryan and myself. It’s a scoop off folks.
-
@TYOHawk KJ should have been playing the 4 spot last year, and could eventually evolve into a 3 and D role towards the end of his career here. We saw glimpses of his shooting ability last year. He was deadly 8 feet and in and showed range out to 15 feet. He will continue to develop those aspects of his game when other players finally develop enough to man the 5 spot consistently.

I think you’re very optimistic on his role. I think he’s a super charged Jamari and that’s useful.

May the best scoops win…

I know where Vernon is getting his info and I’ll take mine.
-
I do not understand even associating yourself with Morris if you aren’t interested in him. Maybe it was leverage to get Timberlake to commit. But it makes no sense to get the bad PR and host Morris if you aren’t actually interested.
-
@Kcmatt7 not interested is too strong. I think the door is open for a quick commitment but if not, they’ll move on just as quickly.

Suspect he will follow the money. Not exactly ground breaking obviously.
-
@TYOHawk I pretty much nailed KJ’s stats and progression prior to the start of this past season. @BShark seriously doubted my projections, even though he’s right way more consistently than I am. Like I said a year ago, he passes the eye test. He has the athleticism, drive, and developing skill to accomplish all of the above. It doesn’t hurt that Coach Self can see the same, and has said as much. I’ve been wrong about a bunch of guys in the past, but proud I’ve gotten this one right so far. I agree with you though, I’m overly optimistic with this specific Jayhawk.

I spoke briefly with KJ last week (barnstorming tour out west, I have no connections) . He said he is working on expanding his range to 15 foot. (He specifically said he’s not really adding a 3 ball, laughed it off). Nice young man. I look forward to seeing his hard work show up on the court.
-
Guys don’t really become three point shooters at this late of a stage. He’s a good player, but him developing a trey would shock me.
@dylans good stuff though.
-
KJ is a great story already and he’s a great kid who gives you everything he has, every night. Really solid year for him when it wasn’t expected he would be relied upon like he was. I’ll let Self figure out how to use him going forward if we get a portal dude at the 5. We know he’s a trusted Self dude so he’s going to play a lot.

That seems fake. Why would McCullar leave if he could get $2mil a year for KU? That’s nba rookie deal money.
I know that’s Hunter’s supposed offer, but I wonder what the real numbers are? Let’s see Gradey’s tax return. So are taxes withheld by the nil company? No way a college kid saves the 800k back for the income tax on a 2 million payday. It’s all gone in 6 months lol.
-
$953,000 is the minimum nba salary. KU pays better is the rumor. (I’d wager it’s closer to 100k)
-
I do remember JCL working with the guys on financial matters. Gotta think KU is on top of that. Is JCL working at KU?
-
That seems like a crazy number - -BUT I do remember reading a post from a guy saying he had talked with a couple of guys and they said that KU would not be outbid in NIL for Hunter - - -holy crap
-
@Woodrow there’s no way that’s legit. KU players do very well for themselves but not that well
-
The whole “Dickinson and money” recruitment thing is causing me to have second thoughts. If it’s about money, why doesn’t he just go pro? Is he not good enough? Can he truly be a teammate?
-
The Pro’s really don’t want him. His position isn’t valued at the next level, and he’s realized his value can be maximized in College. Tshiebwe, Bacot, Jackson-Davis and many other bigs that don’t have that eye popping skill set to jump are finding they can make bank staying in school.
-
UNC thinks they got Ingram. Will feel much better if the visit goes as planned this weekend.

Ugh. Need to get him on campus Sunday.

That’s what I just posted on another thread. - -Screw this going to ruin the Collee game - turned into free agent signings? - You get that kind of money , no need for College ball just go play in G D E F B J K L N leagues what the hell ever take the drama bullshit with ya
-
@FarmerJayhawk Geez if we lose Ingram to unc and Hunter to uk……this place is gonna be a dumpster fire
-
@kuballin10 oh we’ve got another 2-3 dumpster fire cycles in us before June. Don’t sell the Buckets crew short
-
@FarmerJayhawk lol I’m guilty here!

Not to worry, - -Harrison is coming and Hunter is going to Maryland. - So let it be written - -So let it be done lol

Different players, different money. Also money isn’t everything in all cases. Edit: Not saying THIS number is true though.

Gradey and Jalen got 7 figures last year.

@BeddieKU23 timme
-
Trey Alexander has me hot and bothered
-
@FarmerJayhawk This was sort of his opportunity to announce he was portaling and didn’t right?
-
@Kcmatt7 not yet. Some guys will wait for combine invites or overall feedback to portal just to avoid having to do both the recruiting and draft processes.

Bill has a really solid record with marginally athletic combo guard with a pretty shooting stroke https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/malik-newman-1.html
-
@FarmerJayhawk Please stop, I had given up. Believe me I’ve already watched so much Alexander tape. lol
-
@BeddieKU23 - makes sense. I’m hoping the price is reasonable or KU doesn’t go for his services. I know he would make the team elite, but there are other good players who can help a lot, too. If he goes to UK, it will be interesting to see how they use his skills in “dribble drive”. I’d just really like to get a guy who wants to be a Jayhawk, not an employee….
Just my opinion,…
-
all the portal wings flying off the board. Knecht to Tennessee and hakim hart to nova
-
The problem, from where I sit, is a lot of the most talented guys are going thru draft evaluation stuff. That greatly delays some KU targets from making a decision and holds up the entire process. Just my take.
-

Knecht STINKS, wanted him nowhere near Lawrence and thankfully it doesn’t seem we ever did more than “contact” him.
Hart was a solid plan B though I feel.

Definitely part of it.
