  • @BShark Lmaoo I been seeing everything I don’t think we’re fucked but it annoys me that the name Kansas doesn’t hold as much weight as Kentucky or Duke and we have to wait so long for commitments. Like why wouldn’t you want to play for an offensive hall of fame guru and play in front packed fans in the fieldhouse that will rally around you for the win plus NLI. But we still get second guessed like Do kids not want Rings and Wins. But do think we need 2 wings and a big idk about guard but Coach want a guard.Marcus Adams Jr the only offensive wing with game but he is a freshman and injuries or a guy not being ready happens we legit have no wings but him and KJ but unless KJ can knock down a 3 he isn’t a true wing he is an athletic baby Draymond. We are loaded at Guards with the freshman I think all them can go right away and be a upgrade over the garbage bench we just had.

And I heard you say Coach Self said Ingram wasn’t athletic enough well JWill definitely couldn’t dunk but could rebound and bang with anyone.I think Ingram does that with even better passing then JWill.

This whole transfer portal is wonky with what we want and need to what’s available to us.

  • Bobby to East Carolina.

    Best of lucky P

  • Well think I’m going to gamble and say our 1st Portal commit will be - - - -Spears - -just got a feel

That’s frightening if it is the best we can do and I hope you are wrong. Smallish lead guard who doesn’t do anything particularly well on a team that went 7-25. 40% shooter; 30% from 3; 3.3 TOs per game. Inefficient and not a great defender. Worse than Juan in virtually every respect other than jacking it up more often. Well, that’s not quite fair - he is much better from the FT line, so that is something…

Seriously, that’s our lead play in the portal? What is he the answer to?

A big part of Primo’s shooting numbers being what there were was just how bad Georgetown was last season. Primo was asked to do everything for them last season and hurt his numbers. Playing him on a better team where he doesn’t have to take 16 shots per game will help those numbers. That doesn’t mean he’ll turn into an elite shooter, because that’s not his strength. A bump to 47-48% from two and 33-34% from three do seem plausible with better shot selection. Spears also had a 30% assist rate last season which was close to Dajuan’s 31.1% assist rate.

His defense is concerning, but he played over 37 mpg last season so I feel like part of his issues on defense were related to how many minutes he played. While he probably won’t ever be an all-conference caliber defender, I think he could be passable if he’s playing closer to 30 mpg and not having to conserve energy due to being the top scoring option.

I think Primo would overall be a good fit here if he’s willing to play off ball and be the 2nd or 3rd scoring option.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 He can really shoot it off the bounce…has some frankesque to his game

  • Not a guy you’d want to headline the group but Spears is a fine player. He can create for himself off the bounce which isn’t something we have had lately other than Remy.

  • Monday Madness roundup

At THIS POINT - -don’t be surprised- - just saying wouldn’t surprise me one bit

  • Dam Jessee Edwards would be nice if we couldn’t get Hunter. - -6’11 out of Syracuse - Averaged 14.5 ppg - - 10.3 rpg - -& 2.7 blocks per. Think we would have any shot on him ?

Exactly, I’d like him as a second or third option you could give the ball to when things break down at the end of the shot clock and tell him to make something happen.

  • Tuesday Madness Roundup

Jae’lyn Withers transfers from Louisville to UNC

    Walter Clayton transfers to Florida

Jayden Taylor transfers from Butler to NC State

TCU lands Texas A&M Corpus Christi transfer Trey Tennyson

USC tranfer Reece Dixon-Walters transfers to San Diego St

Pitt lands High Point transfer Zach Austin

Matthew Cleveland in- FSU, their leading scorer

  • Peter Danyliv is available. Let’s recruit him. He wouldn’t have to play, he could just “help out”. Instead of being a coach on staff, we could just pay him. We have loads of raw talent that he could fine tune. Let him work with Marcus Adams, El Marko and the rest for a few months.

  • @Jethro said in 2023 Transfer Portal:

In this podcast they brought out a decent point on Primo Spears. --That being Spears has already transferred once, and the NCAA has been threating to tighten up on this. The thing is Spears is going to have to be granted a waiver to be able to play immediately , IF he is not granted that waiver and would have to sit the year --do we still want him? - I would think NO if can’t come in immediately

  • @Jethro so we want Timberlake?

  • @approxinfinity said in 2023 Transfer Portal:

    @Jethro so we want Timberlake?

just don’t think we get him. - he is visiting U Conn , close to home - - U Conn coming off a National Championship - -to many pieces fall in place there for him

  • @approxinfinity I’m not sure we WANT Timberlake. We’d take Timberlake. We’d be okay with Timberlake. But I’m not sure Timberlake is a major needle mover.

Good piece as a 3rd scoring option or 20 minutes off the bench type of guy.

  • @Kcmatt7 that podcast said Kenpom stats showed Timberlake shot the 3 ball in mid 40s against top 100 competition, i think. Thats why i was wondering if there might be legs to him just needing a better team

  • @approxinfinity He is absolutely automatic from 3. Shot is as pure as you can find. And QUICK. Ray Allen quick release. The guy would certainly have some gravitational pull like we saw from Gradey.

I just question if he’s athletic enough to do anything else of benefit at the P5 level. Won’t be a good rebounder. Won’t be able to go get 2 points for you off the bounce. Would probably be a liability on D.

That recipe works great for a 6th man, or a starter who only plays like 25ish minutes. I won’t complain a bit if they take Timberlake. He’d bring something that this team desperately needs in a shooter. I just don’t think I will expect him to be All-Conference or anything like that.

  • I’m not a Timberlake fan but he would provide shooting.

  • He looked pretty athletic to me based off of his highlights.

  • @RockkChalkk said in 2023 Transfer Portal:

Playing in the Colonial, VERY important to note that. He’s closer to Caleb Grill at the KU level.

  • Portal Madness has hit over 1400

  • I sometimes think the ‘athleticism’ component is being a bit overrated. Wasn’t MJ Rice some elite athlete?

  • @RockkChalkk said in 2023 Transfer Portal:

I sometimes think the ‘athleticism’ component is being a bit overrated. Wasn’t MJ Rice some elite athlete?

Do we really want to compare 6th year seniors to some guy’s freshman season? Are we replacing MJ’s production with Timberlake or is it more like Gradey Dick’s?

Timberlake off the bench is great. Would have easily been our best bench piece this last year. Timberlake starting gives me pause if the starters at the 3, 4 and 5 aren’t pretty darn good. That is all I was trying to say.

  • All I’m trying to say is better athlete doesn’t equate to better basketball player. Wasn’t directing anything at you.

  • @RockkChalkk said in 2023 Transfer Portal:

Ingram is a very good basketball player.

  • @RockkChalkk

It is overblown under Self if you don’t do much else to help the team. Joe was an athlete as well but didn’t know plays and wasn’t skilled enough to stick at this level. Udeh is an athlete, raw and unfinished but he started figuring out how to use his gifts towards the end of the season. His athletic ability carried him while the rest of him tries to catch up. We rarely saw any of MJ’s athleticism, not that he was healthy or engaged anyway to care.

Timberlake athletically isn’t elite, he’s not below average either. He has an elite spot up shot but inside the arc he’s very athletic when shooting off the dribble etc (gets high in the air before releasing the ball, making it very difficult to contest). He can play above the rim in transition. I think he’s more athletic than JCL or Moss that came here with similar size and shooting prowess and came off the bench. Both just knew how to get the ball in the hoop doing what they do. I have no clue about his defense, passing or other fine details of his game but on offense its easy to see his high level of BBIQ and skill which is a take no matter what imo.

  • I asked this question of @BShark previously, but will pose it again a slightly different way. Are we missing out on guys already in and who have committed? Waiting for some we think will enter but haven’t yet? Yes, there were some later entrants last year, but is there any chatter about guys yet to come in who are better than the 1400 who have already entered? Or is it something else? Ingram is a solid player. But, he isn’t better than JWill and probably not Kevin. Timberlake is a solid player, but not better than Gradey. As yet, I don’t see how we can make up the 45 point slack through the portal?

Starters will be worse in terms of replacing Gradey and Jalen, but overall the team will be better if I’m betting. Having a real bench does wonders. That will be the case if we add Ingram, Timberlake (or Spears for that matterr) and a legit big man.

  • Jalen was somewhat mediocre as an offensive hub, at least in terms of KU level. Love him forever, awesome Jayhawk, but it’s true.

On the first part, I might just say not very efficient rather than mediocre - just sounds a bit harsh - but do agree on the second part.

Yeah maybe a bit harsh, but he was not efficient. It’s fine though, he did what was needed.

And while he wasn’t an efficient scorer or really create for others, he WAS efficient on the boards…

It’s likely that we have a worse starting 5, but a much stronger bench in 23-24. At least, that’s the way I’m seeing it play out.

Though Cuffe and the forfeited Scholly are throwing a wrench in that.

  • Really hinges on getting a DUDE at the 5 IMO. Messing with lineups and whatnot, adding a scoring big like Hunter or Holmes makes the whole thing work so much better. Allows very, very good connector pieces like Ingram and Juan to do their thing, and opens the floor. Going to have to hope for a frosh or two to come in and ball out.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Elmarko will cook I think. I think the next tier of big would be fine as well. Boone, Edwards etc

  • I worry about Edwards on defense. Transitioning from that trash heap summer league zone to Bill’s complicated man scheme would be tough. Hope he’s got the IQ to pull it off if that is indeed the direction we end up going.

  • I think like others have said believe it or not I think the success of this portal Season depends a lot on the quality of a 5 we can get to commit. If you can get a quality guy that opposing D ha to respect and really man up on him, then opens sooo many other options. They have to respect 5 spots opens things up for our guards to do more things.

KJ works his ass off but yet he isn’t really any kind of threat out past 7-8 foot consistency wise anyways. I f you can get a big that can stretch the floor some as well as post down low then your good. - -You notice most 5’s in modern day basketball do stretch the floor - -more mobile - - that would be Hunter - he has multiple ways to score - he post down low if they double down on him then opens up open looks for the wings/guards. - -if he comes out - - then opens driving lanes - I think our success of the portal depends on if and who we can get for the 5

  • Ok so I’m going to revise my portal wish list - -yet again - -I know , I know just call me Mr Wishy Washy - -so here it is updated lol – Again :

So how about if we could land Hunter - --Timberlake - - -& Ingram ? - - would that work – be ok ? - I could go for that.

Read about Brandon : Starting in-home this week 1st wave will be Friday: - -Baylor - - Carolina - - & Texas A& M. - The towards the beginning of next week Harrison visits KU. The article says that KU - & N Carolina are the two to keep an eye on. Harrison has really not given any date on commitment but should be a fairly quick process he says

  • @jayballer67 if you’d offer me that I’d take it right now and shut it down for the offseason. Even though Ingram and Timberlake aren’t at the top of my board individually, that’s a team that will find ways to score and has defensive potential.

  • Lord help me - - I’m so old , and have that all timers lol - -I can’t even get the kids name right lol. - Is it Brandon Ingram OR Harrison lmao. - - I wrote Harrison & then was on Kentucky Boards and they say Brandon - so which is it guys - -just ol absent minded guy here lol - -Sorry guys - someone get it right for me , but you know who I mean lol

  • Keshad Johnson in the portal from San Diego St. Athletic 4 man that you know can defend.
