Bill Self Presser Wednesday Morning

@BShark I live in Kansas and have visited the southern end of both US coasts. Florida is much more aligned with Midwest ideology vs Cali. I get why an Oklahoma boy living in Kansas would like a vacation home in Florida.
-
@dylans Also about 1000x bang for your buck I’d think on real estate. I also hate the Pacific Ocean and the fact you can’t get in the water without a wetsuit. I also prefer Florida golf to Cali golf.
-
@Kcmatt7 Not sure where Selfs abode is, but the Tampa Bay Area is fantastic. I could live there (with Bill’s money). Lol
-
I’ll keep my eyes open for Bill and Cynthia when I’m in south Florida this week for a beach vacation!

He’s outside of Boca Raton on the East Coast. Tampa is nice, but Sarasota is nicer, imo. Sarasota has beaches where the water is as blue as the Caribbean.
-
@Jethro fwiw They are the same town in my mind like Overland Park is to KC. Flew into Sarasota stayed on Anna Marie island. Really meant Tampa Bay the body of water not the city which is what Sarasota sits on. Never actually went to Tampa - anywhere in the mainland pales in comparison to the key islands - even the lesser known ones. Anna Marie island has Tampa bay on one side and the gulf on the other. White sand beaches. Saw dolphins and manatees every day. People were ok - just too many of them.
-
@dylans I used to go to Anna Marie island all the time when I lived there. The water is bluer than Clearwater. It’s a great little island.
-
I found zero good food in Florida.
Now for Cali - muscle beach in Venice is where I’ve been - crazy paranoid people who constantly heckled me over my Chiefs hat - that part actually led to some fun conversations when I didn’t return the grief and instead gave a eulogy for the Raiders. The water is cold and the sand is rough and yellow. Millions of folks many trying to sell you something. Traffic is terrible and the air is dirty. Decent food.
Hawaii - Honolulu has a couple nice beach - super crowded. Cool, clear water. Too cold for me if the wind blew or the daytime temps took a dip because of rain. Awesome shrimp at a couple good trucks. Everything is wildly overpriced even at the px. The big island was far less crowded, but we skipped the beaches. I hear Maui is nice - never been. Is this your stop @mayjay ?
Now Negril Jamaica. That is a great do absolutely nothing place - as close to zero culture things to do as you get. Warm crystal clear blue water, white sand beaches, mostly friendly people. An unfortunate amount of people hocking goods, but they get you figured out after a few days and only bring you what you want - like fresh squeezed orange juice - it’s delicious, but don’t let them fool you it’s half sugar water. Great sea food - lobster pizza is great if you get a chance. Fun loving vibe - music is in the air, drinks are in hand. Got stuck here during 9/11 and the people were so willing to help us strangers out in any way - it was truly refreshing reminded me of home as opposed to the treatment you get in resort town or bigger city. Bigger blend of nationalities than any of the other places I listed - it’s an international vacation destination. Oh yeah did I mention everything is reasonably priced as long as you don’t look like an idiot American who needs fleeced.
Those beaches are all great to visit, but the Kansas prairie is home.
-
@dylans Lake Michigan has the best beaches.
-
@wissox I really only get to travel in January. I have family that live up there - probably will never visit. It sounds absolutely horrible in January - they’re insane and like to ice fish, play hockey - I head south when the opportunity strikes. Global warming is too slow.
-
@dylans This January was absolutely horrible. While there is a silver lining, I never shoveled once this winter, I much prefer snow that lets me strap on my X-Country skis after work and put in 5-6 miles on beautiful trails. This January was 35-40 every day and zero sun it seemed like for 60 days in a row. The cold isn’t bad, I don’t even own a winter coat. And the lake is just beautiful.
-
@wissox I despise the cold - I work outdoors and it’s windy as all get out in western Kansas. - our cattle start calving about January 15 and are finishing up now. So I get to stomp around in the wheat fields during the days for my regular job, then babysit the momma cows at night if the weather is bad.
I don’t mind 100 degree weather, we almost always have a breeze and low humidity. Actually I can’t wait for the dog days of summer- I love it. 14 hour work days - everyone calling you asking what to do, all the action, heat, excitement happens for me in the summer.

Grouper sandwiches are to die for. Funny story: a 5 star chef was working at Clearwater beach, quit and opened his own restaurant a few blocks from where I used to work. We would go over there, and eat some of the best food in the world, and it was so cheap. I met the owner one time, and asked him why his prices were so low, and he said he wanted to stick it to the Clearwater beach restaurant he used to work at ( can’t remember the name of it- their drink specials were really good, too!).
-
@dylans I can understand that perspective. Sounds like an interesting job.
-
So, about that morning presser…
What time is it supposed to be? Anyone know a way to watch for those that arent local?
-
@RockkChalkk KU Athletics is streaming it. I don’t have the link but I’m guessing it’ll be on the site and app
-
-
If you thought Bill was retiring today, you may wanna find a hole to hide in
-
-
Bill has me amped for next year already. Dude is HUNGRY (but try the salad Bill)
-
Like I said, we good.
-
I missed the first bit, did he say officially what the medical issue was?

What an INCREDIBLE interview. Coach not dodging or hem hawing around any questions asked. - Difficult questions asked and he came right back beyond a doubt. Just like the question when he was asked with this episode did it make him possibly think about calling it quits - - and he said YES, however he then in turn responded and said he MISSED his job and he wanted to do his job for a long long time.- -That’s OUR HOF Coach - -ROCK CHALK
-
“Need a big that can go out and get us 20 and 10” maybe we are in on Dickinson?

We are. Trying to get it done asap too.
-
@BShark nice
Saw a Mitch video earlier talking about Caleb Love. Anything to that? Not sure he would be a fan favorite right away
-
@cragarhawk Missouri
-
@cragarhawk I hate Dickinson and would have to really force myself to be happy when he helps us win.
-
@wissox never thought of you as the hateful type. You’ll be fine. Happiness is happiness, forced or not
-
Just take the red pill before games.
On a brighter note Tyler Wahl is returning to the Badgers & will no longer face Dickinson
-
Or just go be a Wisconsin fan full time.
-
This was such a good press conference.
Does it sound to anyone else like Bill felt like he needed to do this for the recruiting trail?
-
The other part was funny. “We need a guy that’s 40 from 3, 60 from 2, 90 from the line, is more athletic than anyone can guard and never turns it over”
-

Wisox’s not hateful, but can’t say the same for Dickinson.
-
@dylans Yes, Maui is where one son and family live, in Kihei which fronts the whale conservation area. Take lots of days down to the beaches south of the resorts. Saw over 100 whale spouts and breaches one day from the beach. But Marine Gunny SGT other son has now moved back to Oahu for his final tour. Living with his new flame and her 2 kids. So next time we go we will island hop again (prob Christmas '24).

He looks 10 years younger. The fact he can see us on a higher level is amazing.

I definitely got that vibe as well.

Actually he does look better
-
@cragarhawk You’re right but Dickinson has made me change my ways, at least for him!
-
@Kcmatt7 I think you resent that I am a fan of two teams. It’s just sports so really what does it matter?
-
Wonder what Cindy thinks of his health and his decisions? Maybe she doesn’t want him hanging out at home. She can head to their condo, take her friends, maybe coaches wives.
