Could finally see Earnest’s potential. I can’t wait for him to put it together. He could be special

All mental. Believe it has been mentioned before but his high school had a couple D1 guards as well that they played through and they really didn’t ask him to do much of anything except run around dunk and rebound. Big step up to D1 and Self’s system.

I think both Udeh and Zuby will be very, very good before they are done at Kansas.

  • @jessejayhawk said in KU-UK Game Chat:

What was the final Big 12 vs SEC score?

7-3. Ifs/buts with TCU really should have been 8-2.

  • @BShark Thanks. I’ll take 7/3

  • I’m super glad we play Tuesday instead of Monday. Heal up Kev!

  • @BShark Really pissed me off that Mizzou was one of the 3

  • They didn’t score off the 2 offensive boards!🤩

  • Huge factor in the game Kentucky FOUR TOTAL offensive rebounds AND Kentucky - - - -ZERO - - NADA - - ZELCH - -2nd chance points -KU outrebounding Kentucky 34-- -29 for the game

This just shows how baa ass this team can be when they really get after it

  • Another cool little nugget just heard. - Lat time Kentucky was held to 5 or less offensive rebounds ? - - - -in 2008 -and they have the Nations leading or at the top rebounder this year 13.9 Oscar - -tonight Oscar - - - 9.

  • Huge game from Kevin really. That 3 was a dagger. But his D was way better. They had more fun tonight. And they look alot better when they are having fun

  • @cragarhawk and boards!

  • McCullar out rebounded Oscar. Let that sink in. I hope Kev is good to go for Tuesday.

  • I don’t think Grille or grill from isu played in their last game.

sore back. he could’ve made a difference today.

  • Udeh is so well spoken. You can’t tell he’s a freshmen. I would guess he’s pretty smart.

  • It’s funny that there was a bunch of chatter about Yesufu playing more before the game.

Turned out to be more Rice and Udeh and it was great to see. Either way the bench has to continue to get minutes like they did tonight to have a chance in March

  • @Kcmatt7 did he pretty much just shoot an air ball or get blocked and that was it?

  • First got to get this out of the way. Can refs count to three, as in when a big body is in the lane on offense you count to three and if he’s still there blow the whistle and give the other team the ball. Oscar’s a great player but he just camped in the lane tonight, would move to the edge of the lane, but never leaving. Goodness I was yelling the whole time.

Glad i watched the tape!! I know Kentucky is down this year but we needed this win in the worst kind of way.

Wilson was Wilson, and whereas the other day we were basically thinking only Jalen knew how to score the basketball, we rediscovered some shooters and scorers and rebounders and surprise surprise Udeh made some nice hustle plays keeping balls alive.

Back to refs. You just can’t allow a foul count to get to 7-1 12 minutes into a half. Don’t remember specifics except a moving screen that wasn’t against Gradey. But wow, refs just don’t like to reward our team with foul calls. 18-14 tonight against us. Sometimes when refs realize there’s a discrepency they try to even things out and then piss off the other team.

Nice to see KJ Adams bounce back against a big team.

I’m feeling good about KState on Tuesday. I really don’t think they’re the #5 team in the country and I’m guessing we show them Tuesday that they’re not.

Just read part of the game thread and I realize I wasn’t the only one frustrated on the 3 seconds not being called.

I’ve never been able to tell the difference between UK and KU.

One kind of sounds like yuck and one kind of sounds like kool

  • @Crimsonorblue22 said in KU-UK Game Chat:

Self called him smartest player since Dave. Like outside of basketball smart.

  • @approxinfinity said in KU-UK Game Chat:

Continuing on the “Kevin is this years Dave” comparison, Kev gets gimpy, focuses and has a helluva game.

I’m wondering if it was honestly LESS focus. Finally got out of his own head.

  • @approxinfinity said in KU-UK Game Chat:

Bobby cut himself while shaving with a machette?

He’s had that bandage on a lot this year. Gotta be a monster zit.

  • What a pleasing game. Going in I thought our cold streak could easily continue. But as the game progressed, i never thought we’d lose. I’ll take it.

    A couple thoughts:

    — Gradey is way better when he’s set, or flows into his 3 pt shot.

    — An MJ sighting! He did fine. Only sucked on defense on one possession. Maybe. He put some good effort in on a few possessions. He sometimes seems a step behind on D. Wonder if he just doesn’t pay attention to his man, or has no clue. Happy to see him in the game.

    — Boy o boy has KJ been an unexpected treat.

    — See what happens when KJ, Kevin and Dajuan score a few? Much needed help.

    — Pettiford. Hmmm. Obviously he won us a game this year, but otherwise seems like a career backup. Anybody see him taking a huge leap next year? Bill says he plays good D and slides his feet the best.

    — I like the spasmodic energy that Zuby and Ernest bring to the game.

  • Jalen has averaged 28 a game the last 4. It’s incredible how good this kid is as a scorer, leader, everything. Grown A** Man. Hearing him talk after every game, he’s a professional and absolutely soaked in all that Agbaji taught him last season.

It’s been incredible watching his rise.

  • @approxinfinity

Really good comp. Kev’s highs and lows are the same, rewarding and costly just like Dave was. Making that dagger 3 made up for several bad wide open misses. Just Kev I guess, he’s a big shot maker at opportune moments. Defensively he was in his bag yesterday in passing lanes, digging 50/50 balls and boards. Makes up for the previous 3-4 games where he seemed to get scored on at will. Crazy stuff.

Said it earlier in the season, you would never know this kid didn’t play here 4 yrs. His fit here in uncanny

  • Tagline on CBS:

“Oklahoma, West Virginia and Kansas had big upset wins vs. SEC teams on Saturday in the last SEC/Big 12 Challenge” So…the 9th ranked team in the country beating an unranked 'Tucky team is a “big upset win”. Whatever.

KU was an underdog so it was an upset

If you go by the Vegas line. Not anywhere else. The line opened KU -1, and Tucky bettors pushed them to -3.

  • Kentucky’s defense was poor. Looked like poor coaching - no help side defense, rotations where slow, etc. Lots of talent on that roster though. Could you imagine Cal recruiting with Tang as an assistant? That would be trouble!

ESPN’s BPI had Kentucky at 65% to win so a lot of analytics did like Kentucky last night.

  • @Jethro Glad it got pushed to plus money as i took an alternate line of -1 +133

  • Anyone feel Udeh should get more run but will disappear to the bench if Zuby is healthy? Seems like whenever a guy plays well unexpectedly we don’t see them again like we as fans would like (think zac and ou last year).

Mj didn’t do much but he’s an athlete and I think can contribute more than Joe

Bobby spent more time at the 2 than 1. His minutes at the 1 were okay but think he gets passed by our incoming guards next year

Jalen brought the ball up a lot and handed it off to Juan to negate their fake pressure. JW could play point like Royce White

Kj back to over his 15 ppg with Juan and Kevin scoring it changed this team. Those 3 are the most important on the team.

Jw and Gradey normally get there’s but if the other 3 play poor we lose

  • @kuballin10

I was impressed with Udeh’s focus and size. My thought right after the game was he made his case for the second number five spot. We will see. MJ ls a better choice going forward to spell Kevin and Gradey. Needs much more court time to let his talent flourish. We play against so many studs each week along with good coaching. Other reams are experiencing the same wear and tear. You could see that Self has urged every player to shoot and score.

  • Shout out to J Wil, once again he made clutch shot after clutch shot.

He has been so impressive both on and off the court, kudos to him.

  • Need a few more from Gradey and few less fouls from him and kj. Much better game though. Love having Udeh in there. A must to have Kevin and j will relieve Juan bringing up the ball. Juan touched on that after the game. Boards were great, my key to game! Kj really boxed out. It’s different though without shooting so many 3’s. Harder to do when switching and sending littles back.

  • Did Kentucky ever get the lead in the second half? Seems we had an answer to keep that 4 to 6 point gap. I know Oscar cut it to one on FT’s.

  • Beating UK at Rupp will for a long time likely be an upset for any team, even ranked, going in after losing 3 in a row and facing UK, even unranked, after winning 4 in a row.

Besides, our #9 ranking did not account for last Monday. Probably would have been about 14th-16th if poll was Tues.

  • @Zabudda No, they were down throughout, KU had an answer on every UK run, several clutch shots.

  • @mayjay think we’ll be moving down? Several teams lost though? Bama, ksu, and ?

  • You don’t have to tell MJ to shoot!😂

  • Without looking at other teams around us, I think we should be in the 10-15 range. Hard to say after losing 3 in a row, and getting blown out at home that we deserve a top 10. But there’s also a lot of teams apart from Purdue that have suffered embarrassing losses as well.

  • @wissox said in KU-UK Game Chat:

    Teams that lost this week: 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15×2, 18, 19, 20, 25

I think there’s a solid chance KU is still top 10 at 10 when the new poll comes out tomorrow because so many teams behind KU lost as well this week. Gonzaga at 14 is the only team likely to jump KU tomorrow. Baylor maybe jumps KU, but I think that’s a little much at this point, but them and Marquette should each jump 5 or so spots.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah, you might be right. I’m just thinking despite all the others losing seeing our results from before Saturday night we are nowhere near a top 10.

  • @Jethro I can’t find where you wrote about Rupps Rafters in full meltdown. I of course spend quite a bit of time at BuckysFifthQuarter and if you’re not aware, they’ve lost 6 of 7. Injuries have been a major factor, but the talk is quite ugly there. Badgers have been good basically this entire century so fans have a certain sense of entitlement even in Madison.

The basic gist is Greg Gard needs to go. The other side says he’s won 2 of the last 3 BIG championships, lost a guy to the NBA last year, graduated another couple of key pieces. Way too early to pull the plug is their reasoning. But it’s pretty ugly, but not like Rupps Rafters. It’s always hilarious when it’s the ‘enemy’ melting down. But it’s not as much fun when it involves the team you follow! Glad I still have the Jayhawks!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 said in KU-UK Game Chat:

    Not far, maybe 10th.

It is a crazy exercise to figure out whether the transitive property should apply to rankings. We lose to TCU, which stomped Oklahoma but lost to Miss St, whereas we beat Oklahoma but lost to KSU who beat UF but then KSU lost to ISU whom we beat. Does UK count as a good win because their record does not accurately reflect their talent?

Just have a drink and worry not!

  • Kentucky was the perfect game for Udeh. Kentucky doesn’t run anything complicated so he wouldn’t get lost. His only job was to be big, catch lobs, and stick to Oscar. The analytics favor Zuby, so we’ll see what happens. KSU is a bad matchup for Udeh IMO. They don’t have much in terms of post defense but Udeh isn’t a post scorer or rebounder (yet).

  • @FarmerJayhawk What’s hilarious is seeing Kentucky fans on twitter pissed at Udeh because he was, uh, IDK? Scoring, rebounding?? He only played a dozen minutes or so but they’re mad at him.

  • @wissox

I’m also mad at Desi Sills for having 24 off the bench for K-St, Shahada Wells for having 17 off the bench for TCU, that pesky Zeigler from Tennessee who had a big game off the bench when beating us in the Bahamas.

In fact in all 4 of KU’s defeats this season, a bench guard for the other team has had double digit points. We have gripes. UK crying over our big catching 2 lob dunks is so rupp rafters

Everything considered , this game I feel was BIG for Udeh. COURT TIME - - extended , I’m not so sure about K/State- -they really don’t have a go to big for sure, a dominating big by any means. my own thinking is Zuby & Udeh both could really use more minutes in this game also - -get that in game experience . --I think if Ernest & Zuby just stick with it , we gonna have a couple of really solid big’s in the future, and can help a bit on down the line yet this year. – My question again is and ask on game chat - -thing is where does this put ZACH ? - - no sighting at Rupp not one second. - - -I still think he is out at the end of the season

  • Some think that when rankings come out today w will drop some - - I THINK actually we will quite possibly move up a spot maybe even two. I can see us landing at 7th - -I can see K/State moving up to 3rd ?

  • @jayballer67 KU moved up to 8th and KSU dropped to 7th. It wouldn’t have made any sense for KSU to move up because they lost to ISU last week.

Purdue stayed 1, Tennessee and Alabama swapped places and 2 and 4, Houston remained at 3, Arizona moved up to 5, Virginia at 6, UCLA dropped a spot to 9th and Texas stayed at 10th so the teams in the top 10 remained tge same, just order is different with only Purdue and Houston in the spots as last week.
