Seton Hall Gameday discussion

Tonight’s game is tougher than Monday’s that’s for sure.
Seton Hall- Kenpom #57, #91 Offense, #36 defense
Led in scoring by transfers Dre Davis (Louisville) & Al-Amir Dawes (Clemson) they are 4-3 on the year coming into Allen Fieldhouse off back-to-back defeats to Oklahoma & Siena. First year coach Shaheen Holloway who led Saint Peters to their magical 2022 NCAA tournament run seems to be employing a similar style so far at Seton Hall with 9 guys playing 17-28 minutes per game.
The player to be afraid of on both sides of the ball especially at the rim is KC Ndefo, the Saint Peters transfer who was a star in the NCAA tournament with his athleticism & ability to block shots at the rim. These are the guys that give KU major problems every year. Ndefo has 318 career blocks and counting and is the matchup I’m most worried about tonight.
Leading scorer Al-Amir Dawes has hit 50% of his 3’s on the season so far on 34 attempts so Harris should draw this assignment and hopefully keep him in check.
Seton Hall has plenty of positional size, besides their guards Dawes & Harris they have several 6’6 type wing/hybrid forwards & have three 6’9-6’10 bigs to play alongside Ndefo.
Despite SH’s struggles so far I wouldn’t be surprised with a close game, Vegas has KU favored by 8.5 pts. The two games SH played P5 competition they lost by double digits & gave up season high in points so if KU plays a smart game on its home floor they might be able to break this open at some point in the 2nd half. It would be good to get some momentum going into December

@BeddieKU23 Seton Hall is 4-3. Hopefully they won’t hit 5-3. I think KU wins by 10 but I wouldn’t bet the spread.
-
your right, corrected. Hadn’t finished coffee when cooking this up
-
Let’s pray they don’t get hot.
We will need a hero in this one besides JWil.
This would be a great game for Rice to make a statement.
GD needs to fill the stat sheet with more than treys, but nailing some treys would be great.
Our post… I’m still closing my eyes… just hoping more resolved by B12 play.
-
After this game, we don’t play another game for 9 days. Then we have a full week after that before we play another game. So, let’s squeeze this one out, because practice is going to do wonders for us.
-
Just as important, it will hopefully allow Kevin, Bobby & Cam to get back healthy and join in

Watched Hawk Talk last night, MJ was on. Again, Self said he had covid, funny! Also said he was in hospital with his stones. But, I was impressed with his unselfish responses. Let’s hope his actions show that, we need him. He does think highly of himself!
-
Good stuff. Talent isn’t an issue for MJ at all. Really hoping he takes to coaching because he needs it. We’ll know when he buys in. He’s not there yet but I hope it comes
-
If you have espn+ you can get it, he’s worth listening to. He liked how the team responded to the Kentucky loss, that helped his decision. He was here. Asked Self some good questions, whether he was spoon fed??
-
Random thought- find out if Danny is coming into Lawrence for the holidays, and see if we could urge him to spend some time with our bigs. Maybe bribe him with some good desserts or something.
( I know- he works for Maryland, but I won’t tell if you won’t!)
-
@Jethro Landen Lucas has talked on his podcast with his dad about coming back to maybe work the bigs since its such a glaring hole right now.
-
Self has said many times they do the same drills that Danny did. Look at Danny’s record. LL set good pic’s. Plays decent D. We went to the first and only game ku guys played in the BB tournament in wichita, the one where Perry severely hurt his knee. LL was so bad! The Oregon game I was begging them to not throw it in to him! But he’s a good guy, fundamentally sound, but can’t shoot.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Landen would be good as a coach. Oregon game was painful for sure.

To this day, I wish we would schedule them and destroy them. Wipe Altman’s smirk off his face.
-
I think there might be some limitations on in-season coaching by non-coaches.

@drgnslayr What’s the deal with Gradey’s scoring disappearing in the second half? If he’s not going to score, maybe he just plays the first half and a bench player or several get more minutes in the second half. I sure like his first half scoring though. I doubt it’s conditioning that inhibits Gradey’s second half scoring. Gradey’s just the opposite of Wiggins, who really turned on his scoring at the 30 minute mark of the game.

Could be an issue of not having a counter for the counter yet. Gradey gets going early because guys haven’t really seen him. At some point, they adjust and the pressure is on Gradey to make an adjustment to keep rolling. Right now, he isn’t making that adjustment. I think he will in time.
-
I agree with @justanotherfan … When Gradey nails treys in the first half they adjust over halftime and shut him down.
He has to learn to exploit defenses. When they overplay him, nail them on backscreens, etc. Some of this is Self and plugging in plays to help GD. That’s all coming over Xmas.
I believe 100% that Self is going to put in some big energy to develop plays for GD specifically. He’s just too good of a scorer… both on the trey line but also as a slasher/scorer at the rim.
We opened up some early plays for Kevin… one of our less scoring options… because he was so easy to adapt to plays quickly since he has so much experience. Heck… he knew most of KU’s plays while at TT.

They say KU is down FOUR Scholarship players - -who is the fourth ?. - Were down Pettiford - - --Martin - - McCullar - -who is the Fourth ?
-
Cuffe
-
I circled this one when the schedule was announced. I didn’t know how the B4Atlantis tourney would go, but this has all the markings for a tough out.

Ya that’s right. I guess my old age cause me to forget him seeing as he hasn’t really been any kind of factor in the season so far. - -to bad I kinda like the kid just buried by depth though
-
MJ and Joe are getting more open looks because teams are overplaying GD. If they can sustain their good fortune then GD will benefit me thinks. As to our bigs the most capable is Zack. He knows where to go in Self’s scheme on both ends. If his shooting shows up, mid range and deep, he has a skill our other guys do not possess.
-
Let’s get it
-
Adams not taking that shot. He has to find a way
-
Does KJ have ANY post moves?
-
-
KJ is having troubles
-
Pirates are criminals, stealing ships loaded with I-Phones, cookies and Honda Civics. They make people walk planks to get eaten by sharks. Jayhawks try to save the union and hate people from Missouri. This is really a battle for what’s good, right, pure, honest and heck, the American way. (wait til you see how I introduce next weeks match against Missouri).

the lob pass again

Fact: Teams wearing gray uniforms are known to be bad basketball players. It’s true because our football team has worn gray over the last decade and how many games have they won?
-
Who da u dah
-
BAD foul by udeh there
-
I kind of like that dark gray that SH is wearing
-
Wilson missed him
-
Harris had a nice dime
-
@wissox i liked our pinstripe grays with cursive on them that we inteoduced i think the Embiid and Wiggins year. Those were gray right?
-
That last dunk was the first easy points we scored. We can’t keep just shooting jump shots
-
The Hall. Discuss… I wonder if St. John is going to have a uni that says “The John”?

I think there was a really light gray version. And a cream version, with was kind of ugly
-
@approxinfinity I have no memory of gray ku basketball unis so I stand corrected because it must’ve been epically awesome.

this is part of the problem , has no shot. - -he is catching the ball below the free throw line and STILL not even looking at the basket - - -automatic kick out. - -We have JUST GOT TO get development from Zuby or Ernest
-
@DanR didn’t they have words on them too?

the pinstripes were actually the words to the rules of basketball, I think
-
I’m only commenting on things not relevant to the game.
-
Wilson got mixed up didnt realize he was last man and gave up an uncontested layup. Then next possession splashed a 3. Like a boss.
-
I wonder if our unis will ever say “The Beak”
-
@approxinfinity you’re a bit ahead of me, so no spoilers.
I’m just watching on cable too, so who knows why I’m behind
