Hey all you Fran haters. He just called Allen Field House the best place to watch a game. Any complaints about that ?

Guess what…ESPN isn’t going to hire Greg Gurley any time soon.

I don’t mind Fran. He loves KU and Self. I think sometimes he just overcompensates.

Fair take. Lots on this board hate on Bilas too, even though he loves AFH and its tradition. I know we all put on our crimson-and-blue-colored glasses on come game time, but some seem to filter out the good things they say about us.

  • Thank you Ochai! Can’t ever say it enough. Even if your ft shooting sucked

I like Bilas too. Sometimes his rants on officiating get old but he’s fair.

  • Walton is on = TV off

  • Wow I left the thread at the right time. Talk about ruining the fun of an exhilarating game. I turned off the sound and turned the KU radio feed that @RockChalkinTexas told me about, synced it up, and it was great. This was really the first time i got seriously annoyed by Fran, I’ve just found him dull before tonight.

  • When we weathered their awesome start to the second half saved the game until they finally missed some shots in the OT. The 3 banked in by Williams in OT was the last of their superior play.

  • Two nights of national TV prime time. Chiefs and Hawks.

How ya like us now, America ? Not bad for “flyover states.”

  • @wissox At least we didn’t have Walton

  • @approxinfinity said in Payback Tech Game Thread:

Eh just cuz we won doesn’t mean Dajuan > Remy. But let’s see if we can figure out the stated reason for no Remy down the stretch.

I tell ya he knocked knees with dave and it affected him at the time. He winced and grabbed it.

  • That was not a great game by the Hawks but they never once quit scrapping. My older bros always told me that when they were kicking my ass.lol

  • @RockChalkinTexas I thought it was intentional.

  • @BShark I wouldn’t have signed a d2 player…self on the other hand

  • Did anyone else happen to catch who Och working over after the game when they were going through the exchanges of shaking hands ? - - Och was all over KJ Adams. - -Letting him know how Big KJ came up in this game. - - KJ played big minutes - - really good job

  • @jayballer67

    Leadership man.

  • I will admit Walton’s my least favorite analyst. The know-it-all tone throws me off. Why talk down to your audience?

Or maybe it’s just that he seems to be everywhere. Covers lots of the games on the Pac-12 Network out here.

  • @jayballer67 you could really see that Och was proud of KJ. That chemistry is good to see

    Exactly buddy

he was , and we all should be proud of KJ- -hustle man

  • @nwhawkfan He’s better when you smoke some illegal vegetable matter.

  • Goodnight guys love ya. In a real bro sort of way.

  • Til Saturday…

  • Jesus, these games lately! This one wasn’t as ugly, but sure was tough. TT plays great D. We played some good D at times too. Och sure coulda saved us some stress by making ONE more FT!

What? Couldn’t hear y’all. Did you say KJ!!!??? More KJ! Dude helped win us that game.

  • @Zabudda In a real bro sort of way…lol.

  • @jessejayhawk I like Walton

  • Self playing KJ Adams 17 minutes and putting him on Bryson Williams probably saved the game. While I certainly question some other aspects of his coaching last night, that move was pitoval. KJ was phenomenal last night.

  • @BeddieKU23 I’m just frustrated with blowing another double digit lead, and this one so late in the game. I’ll let it go for the next 5 days, but damn if I wasn’t pulling my hair out watching how last night played out.

  • @Kcmatt7

Agree blowing the lead was imo preventable but i’ll leave my frustration at that because in the end we won and I think its important to celebrate how hard these guys played.

Momentum swung badly after Remy/KJ went to the bench with 5 minutes to go. 2 huge turnovers by CB also created that late game situation. It’s a miracle we made it to OT the way the game was ending. Then we get hero ball from Agbaji to get us to Double OT.

If we wanted to know how tough this team is, we’ve clearly seen there isn’t a tougher team in America currently. Proud of this team for what they have done

  • @Kcmatt7 Others have said as much but unless Remy was hurt, he should have gotten more minutes down the stretch.

Though a question I will throw out there is, would Remy have gotten the ball to Och at the end of that first overtime?

It’s clear Self doesn’t trust Remy to be in the right place and make the right play. And so much of Self’s late game success comes from EXECUTION. So it is hard to fault him there. If I’m not mistaken, didn’t Remy close out the first half and totally botched the play to the point we didn’t get a shot? Something to think about. I’d honestly not fault self for pulling Remy in the last 2 minutes but the last 5 seemed a bit much. I definitely wonder if that game gets as close as it does if Remy had been in from minute 5 to minute 2. I get trusting Harris to make the right play, the unselfish play, even the TOUGH play because he’s proven he can do that, but watching Remy play last night and not giving him a run late in the half when the offense was sputtering is a mistake in my eyes.

  • We now have 6 Quad 1 victories, second only to Baylor. We made last night’s game way too close with our substitution patterns, imo. Nice to see KJ got some time when 44 had some difficult moments. If I’m Bill, I’m making my 5 ppg point guard shoot 10,000 shots so teams won’t lay off him like last night. Of course, it’s real easy for me in the peanut gallery to second guess the best coach in America.

No way Remy throws that pass to Och:

  • We played one tough ass team after playing one the game before. It’s clear teams want to be physical against us. Tech had three rim protectors who packed it in. Dave was surrounded on the offense glass. The Hawks have turned into a better rebounding team in conference play. We will be relying on KJay 6’7"and JWill 6’8" to continue guarding bigger men all the way. Duh. Christian will start hitting open threes (again) I would think. Remy was a pain in Tech’s buttocks thank you very much. Are we really 17 and 2? Och keeps getting it done and if the others could get some and ones down the stretch my wife will have to fight me off more often. It will be interesting to see how we handle Mister Tushawoobie on Saturday. You can see Bill’s coaching foci reaping rewards. Dajuan is fine and he is showing up in the right place at the right time more and more.

  • @benshawks08

Self said he couldn’t play two little guards for rebounding. He also without saying just said Harris was the guy he wanted on the floor

  • Remy is a bit of a puzzle so far.

If we toss his ASU history and just judge him on what we’ve seen so far at KU:

He’s extremely confident. Maybe too much at times. He talks a lot and moves his arms/hands when he should be paying more attention to his surroundings.

He dribbles a lot. Doesn’t seem to have great vision. His passes are risky instead of simple a lot of times. And not in stride.

I like his shot. Wish he took more. Confident driving, but not always successful.

Generally doesn’t seem to fit into Self’s system or rigid structure.

Then again he should. Graham and Mason took over games with individual play. Why isn’t Remy allowed to do the same?

Remy DOES seem out of control sometimes BUT the kid is quick a little jet and he has a pretty positive side. - He will drive and attack the rim in a heart beat. Sometimes that’s a good thing then other times not so good , some of his passes are wild , and he gets caught up at times with nothing to do with the ball. Yet having said that I’m glad we have him , just knowing sometime he COULD just go off. I don’t think we will ever see that that’s not what Bill wants him to do I think. Yet he IS another scoring option i wish there are times he would shoot a little more but overall I think yet this year he is going to be fine. He has been fighting that knee injury and think he just now is starting to feel better

  • You know what and there will be guys that say I’m crazy for saying this but that’s ok. You know I am beginning to wonder now since we have played them twice and am done with them unless it’s in the Big 12 tourney. I’m really beginning to wonder if possibly Texas Tech isn’t actually BETTER then Baylor ? - -I just feel Tech’s defense is better then Baylor , I’m not as worried - - I’m worried but not as much about playing Baylor now. - -Tech’s defense is insane , you have to really work for a shot little lone a good shot , their aggressive play really well. In a way we was lucky Shannon & Mcolloughs was off BUT we had a lot to do with that. - -I dunno maybe I am crazy but Tech is dangerous , well Coached crazy defense. Guess that’s why we play them out , just my opinion I am just feeling not so worried about Balor. - -Balor is good - -dam Good and yet I’m just not as worried cause I feel Tech is right there with them and I think they are better defensively that’s all
